Hech of a year for sure. Congrats to you guys! You process your own meat? That looks like a butcher bill that'll put you in the poor house! Good problem to have though, too much meat. -
Sitka gear is expensive, but my mountain pants I bought in '08 are still going strong and my 90% pants I bought a couple years later are holding up real well also. It's pretty tough stuff.

He must've been a bird dog in one of his other nine lives. Karma's a funny thing.

Its that coveted coues whitetail speedo they give out to premier members, red with a white running deer logo on the tush. Id show you a pic of mine, but premier members are forbidden by cwt law from letting others see them. In fact, I've already said too much....

I think you should give yourself some more credit than that. Your creativity is just better suited for different surroundings. Youd probably crush it as an adult film director or a strip joint manager.

Sure looks like a big one. Congrats!

my 2015 nebraska whitetail hunt - 1st tag filled.

I wanted to post up some more pics and give some details on the hunt, but I've been pretty swamped since I got home. With two jobs and family stuff, things tend to pile up on me when I'm gone for a week. Anyhow, the short-short version is that I saw deer every day, had shot opportunities on 3 of the 5 days we hunted and missed filling my second buck tag on the last morning. Had a much nicer (but still smallish) 6 point at 21 yards and he busted me trying to shift into position. There's a lot of deer in the midwest, but they're by no means push-overs! These guys are hunted pretty hard and they know the game well. The deer than busted me looked right up at me 15 feet up in a tree. These are the educated/smart deer that I hate soooo much! I'll take ignorant wilderness deer any day of the week! The season is still on until mid January and I have 3 unfilled tags in my pocket, so I'm planning on flying back for another weekend 2-day hunt in December. Hopefully I'll have another grip & grin picture to show for it! At the very least, I'll throw up some pics of the area we were hunting. Absolutely beautiful! This was my first eastern whitey hunt and it was a buck-list hunt for me. Wanted to try it ever since I first got interested in bowhunting. It was a great time and I can't wait to give it another run! -
I drove out to Nebraska last week to hunt with a friend on some of his family's land. Its been a little tough, we're still in the infamous 'October lull' but any deer is legal and I've seen deer every day and a few small bucks. Last night I was able to hit this little 6 point at about 45 yards. I hit a little high and left, busting his shoulder and clipping his spine. Dropped him in his tracks. First tag filled on the third night. I have this evening and tomorrow morning to try to fill another.

Congrats on an awesome coues deer!

South cox is a fricken bowhunting machine. Did you see the pics of when he got mauled by a black bear? Pretty nasty situation to happen in the backcountry.
-
Nice goat! Congrats! How long did it take to draw a tag?
-
Thats just a BEAST of a coues deer! Congrats!

If your game is to just shoot something legal, it's very easy to do. Archery you say? Very easy you say? Teach me, I've never even been able to kill one Just did amigo. Find a spot with decent activity and get comfy. Thats all it takes. Sooner or later one always shows up. That trick was imparted to me by van clark, former owner of Prescott valley archery, about..... 20 years ago. Ive only been consistently nailing deer with my bow for the last 7 or 8 so I guess I wasted at least a dozen tags trying to find a more exciting/better way of doing it.

I like 33 and will probably spend some time down there this winter, but I'd point out that those deer get pushed around... A LOT! I don't like smart/experienced deer, I prefer them to be dumb and gullible, just like college girlfriends. It's a good thing to see a lot of deer, but given the choice I'll take a handful of up close encounters over a 100 sightings through binoculars that never amount to squat. Stick with steep nasty stuff and you'll find yourself lonely, which is a good thing if you want to put an arrow in something. If your game is to just shoot something legal, it's very easy to do. Find a nice flat saddle with some decent trails in it on top of a steep ridge with nasty thick cover on the north hill side. Dig yourself a hole in a juniper or some other brush that allows a few good shooting lanes. Settle in and get comfy with a good book. It might take a few days of sitting, but something with antlers will come by. If you want a big ole nasty boy for the wall, buy high powered binoculars and start practicing being very, very sneaky. Coues deer are pretty easy to ambush, but extremely difficult to stalk within 40 yards of.

Im a hopless tinkerer so take it for what its worth, but nothing is as badass as blowing up something you built yourself.
