Looks like a great time! Id love to do a trip like that sometime.

Congrats! She's a beautiful girl, you two are very blessed.

We used to have several "any deer" units during the January archery hunts, but they quit it a few years back. It's too bad, I'd really like to knock down a coues doe to add to my herd on the wall. I think a nice sleek nanny doe in winter coat makes a really beautiful mount. Ohh well, guess I'll have to try to find a small doe fawn in Nebraska next year that's small enough to blend in with those coues bucks.

Shoulder mount? -
Bows are more fun to shoot anyways. Plus a lot more affordable, ive been on the same dozen arrows for about 5 years now.... which means its been at least 5 years since I went rabbit hunting or 3d shooting.

I saw a white one up by prescott az probably about 15 years ago. Looked like a mature doe. Man that deer stuck out like a sore thumb in the pine trees. I guess the lack of camouflage probably wasnt that big of a deal since people arent allowed to shoot does here.

Hunting stereotypes- Best thing I've seen in a while.

That deer stopping "Mehhhhh!" works. At least the first time they hear it..... That was pretty good! -
I know where you can get a bowstand for that thing so you don't have to lay it on the ground while taking pictures of it.

My personal experience has been that at longer ranges im either right on the money or miss by a mile. A slight flinch or jerk of the trigger that might be an 8" miss at 50 would be a 16" or more miss at 100. Id think theres a good chance that more animals are wounded at 60 yards rather than 100 as that bad hit will turn into a clean miss with 40 extra yards of trajectory. Of course thats coming from a guy that killed a deer on the first shot at 80 yards a couple years ago, and has cleanly missed one at 50 and another at 60 since then, so I could be still drunk from last night and just rambling incoherent crapola.....

Pretty sweet looking rig. I never heard of obsession, how long they been around?

Ive never shot a heli m, but I wouldnt be scared away by the weight. One of the best things about a light bow is that you can add a heavier stabilizer, or a rear stabilizer to better balance the bow while keeping the total weight around the same as one of those other bows without a stabilizer. I shoot a black ice and one of the main reasons I went to look at it was that it was one of the lightest bows on the market at the time. I shoot a fairly heavy offset stabilizer and its the best balanced and best shooting bow ive ever had.

I dont know the numbers but that was one of the justifications I read about before for them screwing with the archery elk permits. They cut back some of the sept ones but increased the November hunts by a greater number to get more hunters in the field on a lower success rate hunt. Trying to keep the crying down about not drawing tags. Its a tough decision to make. I think its a real lose lose situation for g&f. People will be p.o.ed about not drawing tags but also mad about the season changes. I guess they have to do something for hunter recruitment and retention.

Nice! Congrats on a great bull.

this. thread has derailed. My bad. I'll go sit in the corner for a while.

With the increase in tags and app fees every three years, plus a couple million from auction tags. ... I just dont see how the habitat hasnt been improved to the point that theres a nice comfy hammock with a personal waiter servin little umbrella drinks to every deer in the state by now.
-
Why are they not scoreable? Is this antelope island a petting zoo / game farm or something?
-
I dont think there are good enough words to describe how awesome that is. I just wish they wouldve taken a few of the 'recruits' too while they were at it. Hopefully they did and it just didnt make the press.

That is a nice looking mount. Congrats.

I just cant figure out how a state full of so many brilliant and enlightened people continues to run at such a huge deficit every year?! Id have thought that by this point they'd have already fixed their own problems and would be hard at working helping to fix neighboring states.

If you are a fan of late night campfires and crown royal or other such fine beverages, than javelina are exactly the game you want to pursue.

Apparently that purpose is to feed the lions, whom the brilliant voters of California decided were to precious to allow to be controlled by hunting. In addition, California also has the highest reported annual incidents of lions attacking people. Huh! Who in the heck saw that coming?!? Hunting/wildlife management laws are one of those things that should NEVER be determined by public vote. Allow the public to vote on a board of biologists and professional managers if you will, but after that, the professionals should be allowed to make the decisions.

OOOOhhhhhh man am I glad I read this one! I though I was the only crappy javelina hunter around! Misery loves company I guess. I'm terrible at finding them, the only way I've been able to do it is by dumb luck & good old fashioned persistence. First and third ones were dumb luck, I just happened to walk right into them. Number 2 was a ton of persistence, a beautiful stalk and an 8 yard shot filled my tag after not seeing a single one for the 8 days prior. Keep after it, you'll get one!

I mean... I heard you talkin about her....
