Looking a book about Camping spots up north
mattys281 replied to ctracingraptor's topic in The Campfire
Did you try amazon? Something like this? I may have to pick this one up myself. http://www.amazon.com/Camping-Arizona-Comprehensive-Public-Campgrounds/dp/0762781750/ref=sr_1_fkmr2_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1461562392&sr=8-2-fkmr2&keywords=northern+az+camping -
Anything that's marketed specifically towards hunting is way overpriced. If you want a good backpacking pack, sleeping bag, etc, stay the heck away from hunting stores and hit up ebay for some stuff that's aimed at backpackers, not hunters. They have way better gear for much cheaper. REI has their own brand that's been very durable for me and at a bargain price compared to Kelty, North Face, Gregory or any of the others. I've been using a REI mars pack for long trips for about 8-10 years now. Super comfortable and no trouble holding up to 50 lbs of stuff for long trips. I think with guys like Cameron Hanes and the Eastmans doing all their videos and writing books and what not, it definetely has gotten trendy. But like any other trend, most people will be all gung-ho and into it for a year or two (at most) and then their gear will be up on ebay. The back country will always be a lonely place because it takes a lot of effort to get there, and most people aren't real good with the effort part. Spending money on gear? Sure. Walking 10+miles with all that crap on your back? Not so much. And for the ones that do, all it'll take is one early snow storm and being stuck shivering in the tent for two days, or a freak night time storm with lightning and hail to come out of no where and most will turn tail and not look back.

I tend to disagree. I hunt pretty much exclusively in areas that have to be walked into, whether it's designated wilderness area or just someplace ugle between roads. I don't notice a huge difference in game numbers, if anything there's arguably fewer animals due to the nasty terrain. Deer & elk like easy areas just like people do. What I do notice though, is that you can get into areas that are populated with uneducated animals. That's a huge plus. I've gotten away with some noise and movement that wouldn't be tolerated by a well trained road deer. They're a bitch to pack out though...

Like this, but slower... and funnier! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0ZoMK7J2os

Why wouldn't he make it to 16? Is one of your rocks getting fed up with it, or does he have a little mississippi leg hound in him??? I'd love to see a video of a tortoise sneaking up behind some one and mounting up on their leg.

And if that doesnt work, I try discussing ethics with them.

Ive found that all I have to do is carry an elk tag in my pocket and they avoid me like the plague.

Looks pretty tasty. ... except for the jd. -
It wont be that model, but my next bow is going to be a stick bow. Gotta take the training wheels off some time.... I like the bear super grizzly, but also have been window shopping some longbows.

I never met the man face to face, but I read his posts for years, own one of his books and swapped several pms about hunting here and there. Tony was a wealth of knowledge and someone that was genuinely helpful. It was a loss to the forum for him to go even if some didnt share his opions on certain topics. Lark is much the same. Decades of experience and a true love for the outdoors. But I still dont think hes gone, that guy played too rough to get chased off over a little good natured hazing. He'll turn back up.

He always struck me as one that wears the big-boy briches. I think he'll turn up looking for revenge.

Taking deer out of 37b aint easy with anything.

Congrats on the elk tag! I've had the urge to buy a new one the last couple years, but just can't find one that makes deer deader than the one I'm shooting now, so I stick with old faithful. I think it's pretty hard to find a bad one anymore, there's so many good brands with good models.

NICE muleys! Congrats on the success for both of you, and welcome to the site. I love 37B! I haven't done too well on deer in there, but I've taken a couple javelina out of that unit and think it's one of the pretties hiking units. It's a winter time favorite. Some very scenic areas.

Miller road is pretty bad, but not nearly as bad as Watson Rd. was. They shut that down all together, not supposed to be public access anymore. Thanks a lot, pigs!

Great deer to take with a bow, whether your first or 21st. Congrats!

NIce! To lose a good dog is to lose the truest friend you will ever know. It's painful, but you have to celebrate all the good years you had together. My lab I have now is 'going grey' with me. She's 6 and already greying up around the muzzle. I don't know what I'll do when it's her turn, I tear up just to think about it....

I want one that can see through lace and unclasp a bra at twenty yards with just a twitch of the eye.

Sad day for sure. I wish it'd been Sam Hunt instead.

Had it done in '09. Like others have said, best money I ever spent.

With all the excitement of people getting their results, I'm a little jealous, but since I sat it out this year I cant really complain. Im wondering who else bought bonus points and what is it thats keeping you out of the woods? Im heading to Colorado with a friend/customer to do an otc elk hunt in october and have a family vacation to road trip out to my buddies wedding in September so I have no vacation time left to spend here in az.

They are taunting me in my yard

If they get to be too much of a nuisance, I'll gladly trade you for some of the pigeons that hang around my neighborhood. -
I dont know about 250, but I did see 212 on my front patio last summer.
