You guys are beasts! That's an incredible hunt for sure, Grandpa has to be proud of his boys. Congrats!

I had a couple different problems with my ripcord. 1.) There's a metal on metal contact point inside the housing when the rest drops during the shot that made a slight clank. I opened it up and put a tiny piece of felt in there to cushion it and that quieted it down a little. 2.) The plastic arms were bending from dropping against the arrow shelf of my bows riser, so I cut the top 1/4" or so off of them so that they did not contact the riser any more. 3.) Mine also got to the point where I could not stand it up manually to hold the arrow, it would just fall back down. Finally I fixed it by taking it off the bow and replacing it with a limb driver rest.

Were you on the 'wash road'? I think it's 650? It runs up to that old rock house or you can take off on 342 that heads over to haunted canyon? It's some great area, a really beautiful drive. There's a nice stretch of the Az trail that runs up through there too. I've hiked part of it, but not all the way. It sure is a scenic area, no doubt about it.

To all the archery "hunters" in 24A (Pinal Mt Area)

ps: if you guys don't know who Rick is, they have some really cool videos on youtube under the handle Az Extreme. This guy is 100% in beast mode when it comes to bowhunting. -

I agree. I've done this for years and have seen more 110 plus bucks from a road than you can shake a stick at. Heck i've glassed many 110 bucks from the side of the beeline highway on the way up to payson over the years alone. Roads are nothing but a bunch of glassing points that you don't have to walk to. The original poster doesn't have a clue obviously. In some country i would challenge any guy that hikes miles into back country with who sees more 100 inch plus bucks with me being on the road only. There was an article on Rick Forest in Bowhunter magazine years ago where he said that this is how he hunts. He said he's there to find and stalk deer, not to hike, so he glasses from the road and then if he doesn't find something he likes he can jump in the truck and quickly get to another glassing point. I don't recall the exact wording, but that was the jist of it. It's hard to argue with someone that is successful in Az hunting as Rick is. -
Sure has to be rough going outside your door and seeing a view like that. Some nice looking bucks.

That's area is really bad for them. When I lived out in Superior, I learned to either get out before 8am or just stay the heck away for the day. Can't tell you how many times I've come around corners and ended up nose to nose with some rocket scientist in one of those thing going way too fast.

Good luck Red, I hope you can heal up enough over the next couple weeks to enjoy the hunt. Talk about crappy timing.

What an awesome buck! Congrats!

You gotta practice those 10 yard shots amigo. I use my 20 at 10. Any closer than that and all the pins are in the lungs anyway, so just use whichever color you like best.

Good job! Congrats!

Rocky reference, I like that. I use the term SCK - stone cold killer. It worked well for me on my last two az deer, but then when I went to nebraska last year, I fell apart and shanked my first shot right over that bucks back! Fortunately, I made the second shot. guess some people just cant stay calm for long.....

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but it sounds to me like you're getting loaded with adrenaline, rushing through the shot & just punching one off. Relax! Pick a spot, and talk yourself through it: draw, aim, squeeeeeeze..... "Thwack!" dead deer. I can't tell ya how many deer I should've killed if I could've just calmed down a little. Don't let your previous bad shot rattle you and make you miss the next one, remember the process is no different than shooting at paper.

I'm attending a funeral for a fallen coworker tomorrow. Timing sucks for sure, but not nearly as bad as loosing this guy. Im really sorry to hear that firstcoues. You guys have a tough job to do, and its terrible to hear about losing one of your own. Thoughts and prayers with you guys and your buddies family.

Congrats to them 6a. Thats awesome, I hope everything goes smoothly for her.

I usually change mine every year too, but some where along the line I went from being a guy that shoots 5 times a week and wears out two bag targets a year to a guy that doesnt see his bow for weeks at a time. Guess thats life with babies and a busy career. This time I was smart enough to write the date on my bottom limb with a sharpie so I wont lose track again.

Great unit. should be a good hunt. Good luck!

Awesome trophy. Congrats!

I would agree if he was seeing it at closer range, but at 100 yards that is a very, very slight torque. Probably not even noticeable at less than 60. It looks to me like he's shooting super consistent at that range, whatever he's doing he's doing it exactly the same. I can't remember the last time I shot at 100, but I've had the same thing happen to me with my 80 pin, spent some time shooting a back-tension release & blind bale shooting, then went back to the regular release and was right on the money. But who knows, I guess we'll have to wait for him to figure it out & then tell us.

Curious, how old was it do you think? FWIW, Goat Tuff has been excellent to me for both inserts and fletchings, as well as several home projects. My current bottle is only a year old but still strong as new. Goat tuff is a good product, I use it for inserts. I've been using the bohning platinum crap for fletchings on the last couple batches as it was recommended for blazers, but frankly I don't think that even when the glue is fresh it is as good as the AAE instant stuff, so I went back to it yesterday. I've been using it for years and should've just stuck with it. I think my glue was probably about a year or a little more old. It can last a while if you keep it in the fridge, but mine had been at room temp and it seemed a little tacky. I should've just tossed it and bought some more, but it was late at night and I was impatient. This is what I get for it.

anyone interested in Adele tickets for tonight?

thought your girl started out as strange?? But seriously, adel is hot for a chubby English chick! Who cares what's sold here? You might wanna cut back on the whiskey bro. Don't listen to him Trophyhunter! Everyone knows that 3x chubby heffalumps = one hot chick, just like 5x jacksons = 1 benjamin. My post was for Muledeerarea33. my bad. That's what I get for surfing the web & trying to wolf down lunch inside of 10 minutes.... -
That sure looks like a torque issue to me, but not a bad one at all for that little bit of drift at 100. Blind bale it!
-
I thought I was ready until yesterday when I went out & started shooting the freshly refletched arrows I built on Monday & it looked like it was raining fletchings the way those things were flying off. Apparently my glue was too old, so I had to make a run to cabelas & get some fresh stuff & was up til midnight last night refletching again. sometimes I really hate being a procrastinator.
