What do you think about having a 3 point minimum for Mule Deer?
mattys281 replied to Gunit's topic in The Campfire
a yearling 4x5? i didnt know that was even possible. learn something new everyday. Ive never heard of that either, but I guess anything's possible. I was always under the impression that if a yearling sported forks he as off to a real strong start. Unless of course we're talking GMO texas game ranch deer, then a yearling could go 200". -

One of the great things about hunting is that it can be tailored to almost anyone's tastes, whether a 'brown it's down' kinda guy, or '180" or nothing!' muley nut. I envy the kind of people that put in the time and effort it takes to be so selective. I know I could do it to if I had some more free time in my life, but I'm not there yet, so I'm glad that spikes & forkies are on the menu for those last day crunches. I always find it amazing how many people I talk to that go year after year without tagging anything, but they're always looking for a '3 point or better'. My opinion has always been just get one and enjoy it, then later on you can hold out if you chose to. There's nothing like that first one though, whether big or small. That's a memory I wouldn't miss over an antler point. And btw Hoghntr, I hope you don't take it as criticism, but you really need to lay off that vegan talk. Every wonder why 'vegan' and 'vagina' sound so much alike? In many languages they actually mean the exact same thing. Juuuuust sayin.... -
Friday bump. Give the CW family first dibs, then throw it up on ebay on Monday if nobody here is interested.

Just up from cortez in the dolores area. Beautiful country, but weird hunting situation. All private land along the creeks and rivers with guides pushing them up the hills, and loaded with diy hunters on the mountain tops pushing them down the hills. We were told you had to walk in deep away from the roads to find them on the hillsides. A lot of horse trailers for packing animals out. It was definetely an educational experience. Last morning I was there I found a nice deep basin full of dead falls and loaded with fresh sign about 200-300ft below the ridge line. I wish I would've found it the first day, but even if I had shot one I there it was so steep and nasty it probably would have been a 2day deal to hike one out of there without horses. I think next year I'll make sure I have some horses on stand by.

Looks great, what time should I be there???

I was up there hunting 2nd rifle season with a friend last week. It was pretty rough, crazy warm, and the orange army was everywhere. Ive never seen so many other hunters in the field at one time. Saw some elk and some muleys, but never laid eyes on a legal bull in 4 days.

Buck of a lifetime! Awesome! Good job.

No doubt. I have a 7" k-bar I used to carry when I was bowhunting in 27 in case a bear got ahold of me. I'm thinking I might just make that a regular part of the deer gear...

That's some crazy stuff. Glad he was able to get the job done. Wow!

Except when January comes around we will be getting the adds "looking for a long range sight out to 120 yards for my PSE Nova" I hear from a very reliable source (archerytalk.com) that if one were to shoot slick tricks, aiming becomes obsolete.... as they are heat seeking. And apparently when you hit a deer with one the hole 'looks like someone threw a baby holding a chain saw through it'. Now rages are even better. They do all of the above plus cut & package your meat for you (same resource cited).

It's not trouble. I need to get out there and start scouting for December anyway. I've only recently started to hunt out of state, but last year and this year we were helped by friendly locals and I know it can really make a big difference to a guy that's trying to figure it out from hundreds of miles away. Besides, if I don't draw an elk tag here next year, I'll be heading back to your neck of the woods, maybe we could make a trade on intel.

I've had it happen to me one time with a rifle. Told the seller I'd make the trip to pick it up. He told me he was headed part way to hunt and could meet somewhere in the middle. Plans changed a few times the next couple days then informed me that he decided to keep it for his kid. If you're not 100 percent sure of selling, don't post it. It wastes everyone's time and possibly messes up other potential deals. That's just jacked up. I'd be pretty p.o. on that one too.

This thread makes me glad I only bowhunt, that way everything is 'short range' and I don't have to worry about all that practice & ethics crap...

I have 85% 29" & 75% 29". Nothing for 27". But modules are available for $35 from any Mathews dealer (I got the 75% mods from Bear Mountain) and are super easy to install. If you want to buy them, I'll split the difference with you and knock $20 of the price. Thanks for looking. Matt

Love those crabclaws great buck! Congrats.

This is called parallax and most of the high power scopes I've looked at have an adjustment knob for it. When set correctly, you should be able to move your head where ever you want without the cross hair moving in the field of view.

ttt Sale is for bare bow only.
