    "Good to a thousand" mentality??

Hunting is all the moments leading up to that squeeze o trigger. this is true, but it takes away the 2nd hardest part of the hunt. the first is locating them. but if you can shoot them from where you located them, theres a lot less "hunting" involved usually. if i had a little kid, i dont think i would want them shooting far or out of one of those triclawps things. learning to get close and have the chance of busting them is part of hunting. if you can them out of a vice with a sniper rifle from 800 that aint teaching them much except how to pull a trigger I think of it a lot like golf. You have different clubs for different shots. Likewise in hunting, you never know what youll be faced with on any given day. Also, your personal life and available time has to be considered. I'd prefer to be reasonably close for my shots. I like 40 to 50 yards best. Animals jump the string too much closer than that, and we all know the arguments about long shots. But this year, im faced with a very limited time situation. So I'll hope for my 40 shot, but will be prepared for 80. I can see the same logic with a rifle hunt. Probably everyone would love that 150 stationary shot, but its nice to be able to make that 800 yard on if you have to, or just decide to on that day.

    8 1/2 months prego, Am I crazy????

If she wants to hunt, take her hunting. If she changes her mind and wants to watch tv, then you stay home with her and hold her hand. The one thing you don't do is argue with a woman thats that far pregnant. They'll sit on you if you tick them off, I had it happen before...

    "Good to a thousand" mentality??

They dont know im in the woods when im 10 yards away.killing is killing, regardless of range. Hunting is all the moments leading up to that squeeze of the trigger. At least they got a fighting chance at 10 yards. At 500 you gotta be a bull in a china cabinet for them not to notice you True. For me 90% of the fun is getting close, but everybody's got their own preference. And rifle guys dont usually have a lot of time to work with. Those week long hunts can be awfully short. Its pretty sweet having 9 weeks of archery deer season.

    Cross Country/Deer encounter

Never been to bozeman, but if you like to 'people watch' you should take in the sights of the walmart on dysart rd right after the 1st of the month when they all get their ebt benefits. Its a real target rich environment for thugs and freaks.

Thinking about a new bow string

My strings still look pretty good and I wax them every so often.. I only see some wear where the string hits the string stop but yeah its probably a good idea to change them out this year.. I try and keep them waxed and keep my bow indoors if I'm not shooting. The string I was talking about also still looked brand new. I couldnt believe it was as bad as it was. If yours is that old, check it on a bow scale. If your poundage is down, you'll know its overly fatigued and should be replaced. Another indicator is how does it feel when drawn and pulled against the stops? The wall should feel very solid, like you couldnt pull the string even another 1/8 inch if you wanted to. If the wall feels soft and spongy, this is a worn string you are feeling. A good stringis like a steel cable that holds everything together tightly and has very little give, where as one that is worn out is like an overstretched bungy cord, all kinds of extra give/slack and very spongy. One thing to note is that your string could be shot as ive described but your a.t.a. and brace height can still check out fine. The indicator would be in the draw cycle, not in the resting dimensions.

Thinking about a new bow string

If its been 3 years, you are definitely due for a change. I recently swapped strings on one of mine and the bow had lost 11 # of draw weight and 26 fps arrow speed by having and old worn out string on it. If you shoot a lot, you should change it at least every year. I know a guy thats a fanatical shooter, leagues, tournaments, etc. and he changes strings every six months.
  19. Guess he shouldnt have been bullying little guys.

Planning 2017 high country mule deer hunt

I haven't looked into it real recently, but I believe you can get otc archery tags in a lot of the northwestern states like Oregon, Washington and Idaho. Never done it myself, but I plan on putting into the the colorado draw for a southwestern unit next year. Currently I'm planning on a solo trip, but if you'd be interested to partner up, let me know and we can talk about it and arrange a face-to-face meeting at some point. I just hunted in this area for the OTC gen. elk hunt this year. We got skunked on elk, but saw some amazing country and there's some real good high country bucks within 8 hours drive of phoenix.

    Coues for Blacktail

Welcome to the site darren. If you bowhunt, that tag is over the counter. I have no idea what drawing odds are like for a nonres hunter, but it is definetely doable. Theres a couple guys on this forum that come from out of state.

Looking for a cause to get behind?

I stole it from web. I was sitting here thinking how amazing it was Obama has made it safely thru 2 terms then I thought why would I be suprised were the sane side. So started googling.. Really made me realize how in danger Trump is so praying for he and his families safety. No doubt. These 'protesters' are just a bunch of emotionally stunted obstinate children laying on the ground screaming and kicking because their mother wouldn't buy them a candy at the grocery store. dang shame there won't be a daddy waiting for them at home with a belt in his hand.
  25. Ive had stare downs with a couple of them. You put your hans up to look bigger than you are and yell at them and they usually turn and go pretty quickly. I would note that a bear that comes in to a call is much different than one that you just happen to cross paths with. Called bears are I. The 'hunt mode' and its harder to change their minds when theyre set on a meal. The one time I thought I might get eaten was on a bear I called in on accident when calf calling trying to photograph elk. The bears that I've just bumped into turn tail and run with little convincing. Ive yet to bump a female with cubs though, and everything I read suggests that in this situation the best course of action is to calmly sit down, place your head between your legs and kiss your arse good bye.
