I cant think of the number now, but theres a forest rd that runs out of superior on the south side of town that I used to kill a bunch of rabbits off of. I used to hunt that area a lot for small game when I lived out there. Wasnt uncommon to smack 3 or 4 cottontails in a night with my bow and rubber blunts. No matter where you go, it'll be a good adventure for the kiddos. Good to get them started young. Have fun and good luck to you guys.

Any Machinists on here? Looking for barrel/bolt fluting.
mattys281 replied to ready2hunt's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have a cnc mill with a 4th axis that could pretty easily be made to do either straight or helical fluting. However, I think I'd probably recommend going with someone that has experience in doing this specific type of work, as there is undoubtedly some hidden tricks to the process that may bite the inexperienced in the butt and consequently damage your barrel. There is a lot of stress introduced into metal when it is machined, and it is very common for metal to relieve itself when machined and bend. If your barrel comes out bent, it would need to be straightened. It may stay straight as an arrow. I have know idea as I've never cut a barrel, but I have machined a lot of butterfly shafts and gear shafts for aircraft engines, and these will very often bend, making straightening after machining a normal part of the process. And this is dealing with parts that are made out of very expensive high quality metals that have been heattreated and stress relieved, yet they still often bend when you cut metal off them. I dont know what high dollar match barrels are made of, but ive read that stock barrels are often pretty cheap steel. Good luck on your project. -
Sweet rug! Thanks for sharing.

Its a wonderful thing to have a beautiful woman love you enough to spoil you. Awesome truck and congrats to both of you. Nothing but respect for what you two accomplished.

Wife and I are in a similar situation. Saving to buy a 2 acre lot up north. Normally I'm the one the blows the budget, but this year she made me swear that I wouldn't. So i was a good boy and stuck to it.... and she went overboard and spoiled me this year.

I can only think of one better gift to get, and you'll be getting that shortly. My wife and I also did that when she was pregnant with our son. Thats some of the best money ever spent. The photographer asked my daughter to kiss mommy's tummy, she went a little freelance on it and we got what may be my favorite picture I've ever seen.

If you are a fellow hunter and lover of the outdoors, then all good. Post up some pics as previously requested of these Coues deer(technically pronounced like "house" according to my grandmother) and carry on. You entered the site at a weird time. The site has been and will continue to be an amazing place. Your participation is optional. Like said, this is probably the friendliest, most helpful hunting site I've ever been on. But it is not immune to the occasional troll, or rumor lighting fires. Welcome to the site and hope you and yours are having a merry Christmas.

Had to go do some shooting and test the fit of my new sitka jet stream jacket. Man I love the fit of their clothes. Jacket is so slim fitting, dont even need an arm guard to shoot my bow, but so warm I could only wear it for one round and had to take it off. Jeep said it was 53 degrees out there. Nice!!!

Subtle hints, right? Id asked for a home depot gift card, have some raised planters I want to build after holidays. ever so subtle. I'm ripping out my whole garden this winter and starting fresh with raised beds only in the spring. It just seems like a better way to do it. Im building this winter, but wont plant until march. Going to start the seedlings inside in a few weeks, so theyll be good and strong by the time they go outside. Have a front room that gets lots of sunlight. It got hot so early this year I almost lost all my peppers and tomatoes. Managed to keep the plants aljve through the summer, but didnt exactly bring in a great crop in the fall although we're still getting cherry tomatoes and some peppers here and there. We're pretty new to the gardening gig, still trying to figure out how to grow stuff someplace thats hotter than heck.

Hard to fault a guy for saying something correctly, even though most people say it wrong.

Do you have family land or hunt with an outfitter or other arrangement? I was thinking about leasing some Midwestern land at some point. I always thought it would be rediculously expensive, but after talking to some people on archerytalk and missouriwhitetails it seems a lot more affordable than what I'd expected.

A big +1 on this. Love seeing your pictures doug, thanks for sharing. I meant to give a review/referral to the cw.com family on dougs work a couple months ago, but it slipped my tattered mind... anyhow, I bought a couple of Doug's prints to give a buddy of mine as a wedding gift this fall. If you think his work is great online, let me tell you, you havent seen a thing until you've held a couple of his prints in your hands. I bought them through fineartamerica.com, the lrint quality is incredible and they package them so well they could fall off a truck and still arrive unharmed. I hinted rather strongly that I'd like a couple for myself for Christmas, guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow to see if either the wife or Santa remembered my request.
