    Help Wanted - Open positions

Sounds like a pretty sweet gig for someone with kids that are college age or close to it. Sure beats paying student loans for 10 years! Good luck on your hiring.

    Drilling and tapping

I have. No one makes a one piece model 70 base that has the proper hole spacing. I'm thinking this gun was drilled after the fact as the spacing doesn't line up with anything leupold could find. What thread is it? I might have everything you need laying on the bench in my shop. If you want the hole in the right place, square, and with good size threads (not wallowed out) you need to a.) Spot drill it, b.) Drill it) and c.) Tap it using a tap guide of some sort that will keep it all in line. Or d.) You can bring it and a six pack of beer out to Avondale some evening after work and we'll get you squared away. Man I appreciate the offer and would take you up on it in a heartbeat but I'm in ND! I should fly down there anyhow just to get out of the cold!!! It's the standard thread that leupold bases are (6/48???) I get cold just thinking ND in February.... no thanks!

    Annealing with salt

I couldnt tell you the physics/chemistry behind it, but salt bath and quench is used a lot for heat treating certain alloys. Supposedly it does not causing the extreme distortion of finished or semi finished parts you can get from oil quenching. I never heard of anyone doing it at home. Thats a pretty cool set up that guy has.

    Archery Mentors (Volunteers) Needed

Sounds like a really cool program. I wish it was a different weekend, its my daughters birthday party this weekend. Good luck, I hope you find some volunteers.
  16. Not sure of the unit (21 maybe?), but Sheeps Crossing on the Verde would be pretty sweet in mid march. It'd be nice enough during the day to tempt you to stick your foot in the water, but cold enough at night to keep you real close to the fire. I've seen several people get right down by the river in 2 wheel drive pick-ups, so I'd think you'd be alright, but I haven't been there in years now.
  17. I love this site, and can't express the gratitude I have for this resource. I'm not sure how long I've been a member, more than 10 years I think. I've gotten a lot of good tips, good advice, and have made some good friends. It's made being a 'self-taught' hunter more manageable. It honestly pains me to see people bickering and poop-talking each other, that's not what this place is about. So........... leave your tape measures in the garage, we don't need them to know they're small. Let's see the smallest one you've got and hear a story on it. I'll start it with mine. This is NOT the smallest one I've ever taken, but it is the smallest one I have a picture of. I was having a rough patch a few years back. I put tags on big game animals 3 years in a row (07-09)and was feeling pretty proud of myself, then it all went to poop. 2010, I had opportunities, but I was a big-shot now, so I let the little ones walk. In 2011 I missed 2 javelina and one coues deer in an eight day span, before gut shooting and losing the smallest deer I've ever shot at. I was pretty much done for the year after that. In 2012 I was back at it. Missed two and didn't tag out. Confidence was pretty well shot. Then in 2013 I got my act together, practiced hard, scouted, and ended up making one of the best shots of my career so far on this little forky buck. Stone-cold-killer mode: no shakes, talk my self through it: pick a spot, draw, aim, squeeeeeeeeeeze....... THWACK!!! One arrow and a double lung shot from 35 yards. The deer made it about 200-250 yards before expiring, but he got at least an extra 100 yards from plummeting straight down a nasty steep canyon wall. Got him on the last day of a 4 day hunt. Awesome buck & great memory! Best tasting deer I've had so far... well from Arizona at least. Nebraska deer have ours beat.
  18. "Outing other baby killers"... Priceless! Don't shoot until you can see the white's of their eyes! milk on their lips!!!

    First HAM Hunt

Nice work! Congrats on your javi.

    A funny thought...

Seems like running in a real gray area left to the individual G&F officers interpretation. I wouldn't do it. Those guts will be eaten up by a crow or a fox before a bear ambles by anyway.
  22. I know this isnt a contest, but dang it I feel like you just won a prize of some sort with that picture. I'll bet that was the best tasting deer to ever land in your freezer.

Hunting with Glocks and non hunting pistols(pics page 2)

Javis are a lot tougher than people give them credit for.
  24. The title may say 'dinky deer' but this is all about any small animal that was a big trophy. Lets see a pic if youve got one.
  25. Thats some talent. I dont think I could hit a deer the size of a garage door at half that range. Well, maybe if there was no wind and he was sitting real still....
