Got some rain in Prescott this afternoon. Not a lot but its a start.

I’m another fan of wool. I’ve used a couple different flavors of synthetic over the years and found I got pretty stinky after a couple days on the trail. Wool doesn’t get as bad at least not in my experience. I also find it feels warmer on the January hunts.

I don't know the guy but I would bet self-employed or small business owner of some sort. With that kind of work it's not just about money/day, you schedule is much more important. If you get wrapped up in a month long trial you could lose 10's of thousands of dollars in work, plus lose customers & future work. If it was $2000/day I'd still do everything in the world I could to get out of it.

My buddy and I drew deer tags, but no idea what yet. We're hunting something somewhere though.

There’s a herd of about 10 or 12 mule deer that spend everyday sleeping under my neighbors deck. No fawns yet but those does are looking plump and ready to pop. Can’t wait to get some pictures of the newborn neighbors!

Thank god im happy being a baby deer killer. You guys that get so excited over big antlers don’t even seem to enjoy hunting the way everything pisses you off so much

terrible news. Never met the man face-to-face, but he's been an incredible source of wisdom and experience as long as I've been on this site. Wish nothing but the best for him and strength and comfort for his family.

Congrats Yotebuster, thats a dream hunt for sure! How many years did it take to pull that tag???

Got a lot of rain out in the superstitions this morning. Rained on us for hours. Still haven't dried out yet.

Good looking out Kev. I almost forgot to buy the sheep point.

Probably about the most meaningful award you could be presented with. That’s a good day. -
frickin aussies!

Great shots!

Fluting is supposed to net two benefits, the obvious weight savings and also faster heat dissipation as you have increased the surface area that conatacts the air and also reduced the cross section thickness of the barrel.... in theory. Never tested it myself and I don’t know anyone that has, but the math is right

Great pictures. Saw 4 of them this week over in the white mountains. One was a mama with two cubs. Mama and one of the cubs were jet black but the other cub was chocolate like that one. Love seeing bears!

Hiking in before light! Scare them off?
mattys281 replied to stanley's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
If Im hunting solo Ill often cold camp very close to my ambush spot, within a hundred yards of a treestand or even in my ground blind so I dont disrupt the area. That seems to work well. The last few Ive killed have been in a stand I hiked over a mile to each way and it hasnt seemed to make a difference frankly. Of the last three, two were taken at almost exactly 7:30am while I arrived at my stand at 5:30. I may well have bumped something on the way in but there are plenty more unlucky ones moving through the area. I actually got a shot at a nice buck a few years ago by making too much noise. Humped into an area I like that is far from the road. After an almost two hour hike I was at my spot around 9:30 am. The rock I normally sit on was covered by snow so I wiped it off and used my boots to scrape clean the ground where my feet would be. Nice six point coues buck heard that from a couple hundred yards away and thought I was another deer making a scrape. He charged right in to me was over 150 yards when I first spotted him and I missed him at about 30. Barely had enough time to get an arrow on the string before he was right on top of me. Missed him and the. Killed a spike buck two hours latter. Last year I had a doe and her mini come up on my while climbing up a tree in my climber. They were about 35-40 yards away staring at me when I spotted them. I just kept going. They walked up to about ten feet of me to investigate this strange thing climbing up that tree and eventually just fed away never spooking or running. I make my best efforts to not disrupt the natural vibe of an are but frankly dont worry at all if I jump something in the dark. As stated by others I dont think it ruins an area in the least. -
I always shoot mine with the broadhead past my knuckles and into the riser. I cut the arrows about 1 longer than where the rest contacts the arrow. You dont want the arrow cut too close to the rest because this will not allow you any room for adjustments when a.) your string stretches some and you have to twist it up or b.) you change strings and its not exactly the same as your last one. No two things are ever the same, so a little extra arrow can leave you room for adjustment down the road

Outstanding congrats to you two.
