Guess he can't get at 'em with his teeth like my dog does, so... You do what you gotta do & you scratch what you gotta scratch.

I think that's the one I read about. They were claiming it to be a new world record, but it turned out to be from a game ranch or petting zoo or something.

My GF is shooting around 43 lbs. on her Spyder. I got her set up w/ the PSE Carbon Force Predator 100's & Thunderhead 100 broadheads. She hasn't stuck anything w/ it yet, but that set-up shoots good for her & I'm a big fan of those arrows. They're pretty tough. I shoot the NAP Nitron 100s for my broadheads. They're short profile w/ a 1 1/16 cutting diameter. They shoot real well.

I noticed the same thing. Those gray "things" had even dripped on my car a little on the way in. Not sure what was going on, but it sure smelled good out there!

I can't knock anyone for keeping their favorite spots quiet, but have mixed feelings on this particular species. On one side I really like the idea of being able to hunt something "big" year round w/out drawing tags. From that perspective, it would be nice to keep the good spots on the down-low & give 'em a chance to establish a decent population. The other side of that coin is that wild pigs breed several times a year & one sow can produce over a dozen piglets during that year, all of which are breeding & producing more piglets before they are a year old. Their populations tend to grow exponentially when not firmly controlled. From what I've read, they're very destructive on habitat and can potentially put extreme competitive strain on indigenous species in the area. That's particularly concerning when we have a declining mule deer herd as it is. I don't think that they get a lot of hunting pressure in our state, though. They must not be well adapted to our dry climate, as they don't seem to have really taken off they way they have in other states. I do know one thing for sure, they'll have a little more pressure on them real soon.

That's exaclty my line of thought. It's a long time between January & the fall archery hunt, need something to take the edge off, other than rabbits. Have tried coyote calling a couple times, but very little luck there. Besided, I'd rather shoot something I can eat. I've been planning a trip in Ca w/ my brother for a couple months now to go after some hogs, but spoke to him on the phone last night & w/ four weeks to go before the hunt he tells me he might be shipped-off to some where else before then. He's in the Marine Corp, so his schedule is subject to change by the hour. I guess if he can't make it, I'll probably check out that area around Bloody Basin that guy was telling me about. I've already bought a new backpack & taken the time off work, so at this point I'm obligated to hunt somewhere. You know, whether I want to or not. I believe that is also one of the Man Laws.

Bagged one or two of those myself. Fortunately man law 62, section 8 clearly states: "any female companion spotted in the company of your friend upon exiting said drinking establishment after the consumption of more than 3 beverages and/or between the hours of 12:00 a.m. - 3:00 a.m. cannot be used as discriminatory evidence at a later date, regardless of age and/or what may normally be considered an "undesirable" weight:height ratio" I didn't write the rules, I'm just playing ball.

I recently met a guy who is a sales rep for Hard Hunter Deer Mineral. He's not a professional salesman, he just deals in this stuff as a side business, from what I understand. It's supposed to be formulated for deer in the southwest and he says that it works really well. That's why he sells it, personal belief in the product. If you'd like, you can pm me & leave a e-mail address, & I'll forward a copy of the flyer to you.

It's been laid down now. You've got to the end of the day to post pics of the antler, or from the ABC. I'll be happty to examine either.

You might post a classified ad on Archerytalk.com specifying what you're looking for. There are over 70,000 registered users on that site, a lot of whom are from back east. It's not uncommon for guys to buy expensive glass for a "once-in-a-lifetime" elk or muley hunt & then not use it again. A thousand bucks in their pocket is better than a set of binos in the closet. You might also find someone willing to work out a trade, if you have something of value you could part with. Your glasses should be the most expensive piece of equipment you carry. I recently bought a pair of Zeiss Conquest 12x45 & love 'em. They're not as good as the Swaro's, but they're definetely the best glass that I've owned so far. Good luck.

Hey mulie hunter, You just keep repeating that P-S-E phrase in your head, over and over again, and maybe some day it will be true..... Ahh yes! The power of positive thinking, at least with Pse you can do that! Matthews, Hoyt, etc... hopeless Let me try: H = high-priced O = over-rated Y = yuppie T = trash That works, but good luck w/ Matthews! Thats gotta hoyt!

Nikon 80mm Angled Sky and Earth 20-60* eyepiece
mattys281 replied to TREESTANDMAN's topic in Classified Ads
No way. He's got to much $$$ wrapped up in those fancy trail cams of his. We'll know somethings up when he runs an add for those. -
I tote a pair of 8x's around my neck & a set of 12x's in my pack. I don't think you can go wrong w/ anything that says Swarovski, Zeiss, Minox, or Leica on it. I also know a guy who uses the Nikon Monarch 12x's & thinks they're great.

You see, this is why this site is so great. I call three different gov. agencies & nobody can tell me anything about these animals, one biologist says he's never heard of them in our state, but I put a post on here & in less than a couple hours I hear from a half dozen or so people who have seen them with their own eyes. Shows you where to go for you answers, doesn't it. Younghunter: That's a great pic of that lad w/ his hog. That's a big ole sow, but I think that kids smile is even more impressive. I love seeing those Chuck Adams grins on people w/ their kills, instead of the "I'm so serious" scowl. After all, this is supposed to be fun, right?

Thanks for the confirmatioin guys, its appreciated. I'm heading to CA for a week next month, but after that I'll plan a trip for the Bloody Basin area that other feller recommended. If I don't score in CA, maybe my new Diablo will get to lose its virginity on an AZ hog! He told me that there wasn't a lot of herds there, but if I did find one it would likely be big. I guess that's as good as way as any to kill time until the early archery hunt.

With you on this one GH. That Vectrix was a nasty little temptress who almost seduced me to the dark side (or Hoyt side if you prefer, synonymous aren't they?), but in the end.... My Diablo's on the way & the Mach 12 gets moved to the back-up position. I just hope that Pete Shepley can forgive me for letting my eyes wander.

I've got a used 2 pc. Vertex model that holds 5 arrows. This model has adjustable grippers for holding small diameter carbons. Will let it go cheap if you want it. Send a PM. Matt S.

You mean give up the snake oil and gimmicks and just try some simple, time-tested wisdom first!? Worth a shot - anyone got a cat scratch their not using? Preferably close to the Superior / Globe area.
-
That's a great bow. I heard people complaining about the handshock compared to the switchback, but I didn't notice it. Even if there was a slight buzz, it is far offset by the fact that it only weighs 3.8 lbs! Good shooting bows are nothing new for Matthews, but one in that weight class sure is.

Over the counter archery deer tag gone?
mattys281 replied to bowsniper's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I ran into some other hunters on opening day of javi season, but didn't see another soul (or even another vehicle) the rest of the time I was out. Granted, that was only a few days, but still... If some units are more crowded than others, put a draw on them, but I see no need to have a draw in units where few people go anyway and where success rates are much lower than on Kaibab. -
Here's an idea. Maybe some of you lion guys have already tried this. I can't find any lion scents in my distributors catalog (go figure - who'd want to collect that!), but I did find coyote urine & bobcat scent gland. Maybe if you dispersed some predator scent around the scrape every day for a week or so you could get that lion feeling like he's being imposed upon & he'll stake out the area to protect his turf. They're supposed to be pretty territorial right? After all, those scrapes are meant to mark territory & bobcats & coyotes are both competitors. Just a thought.

Sold. PM sent.

If they visited scratches on a regular basis I'd show you many many pics of dead lions. Unfortunately lions are so dang random it's almost impossible to pattern them. Like my Dad says, "A lion is not that smart, it's just they're nature that keeps them alive". That pic I got on my trail cam last week of that tom, was in a place where he'd been scratching nearly every day for several days. Just when we think we're gonna catch him he doesn't show up for 2 dang weeks!! Since that picture he hasn't even been back. I think these pics of the scratches might be from a different tom though. Never know I guess. That's what I expected to hear, but since I've never spent any time trying to find one, I figured I'd throw the question to those w/ more experience.

Found this article on archery talk today. Wonder how our wolf population compares. http://www.winonadailynews.com/articles/20...ws/04wolves.txt

Over the counter archery deer tag gone?
mattys281 replied to bowsniper's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Seems like they would sell a lot fewer archery permits that way. Can't see how it makes sense, give our success rate w/ bows. Unless they just make too much money from those over the counter permits & are trying to fix that.
