I stick w/ the wildview II's as you can buy them at Cabelas for $90-100. They take pretty good pics & if you "lose" one you're not out a ton of mone. I've got four of them in my herd. I would have five, but ole numero uno got "lost" last May in unit 27. Incidently, if the person who "found" that camera laying around in the woods is reading this, could you at least post the pics it had on the card? P.S. Recently bought a Wildview IV, and will be returning it this week. The extra $30 gets you a 4 megapixel camera instead of a 2, but in this case it also got me a motion detector that won't trigger past 8 yards. May just be a faulty unit, but I'm taking it as a lesson & sticking w/ the trusty II's.

You can see that the bear in the second pic looks much larger than the one in the first pic. The last two pics are of the same bear & may be the same bear from pic #1, but not sure. Anyhow, these were my first bruin catches. I got a couple other bear pics last year, but you could only see it's back, so I don't count them.

Trail Cam Help
mattys281 replied to CouesSlayer's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I've been using the Wildview II's w/ excellent success. The pros are that they sell for around $100 bucks, so if you do end up "losing" one, you're not out a ton of money. The price also allows me to run several of them (4 currently, buying no. 5 this payday). In addition to that, the run on 4 'c' cell batteries & are quite small & light weight when compared to many others. I've found that Rayovac batteries last longer then Duracel or Energizer, inspite of what the rabbit would have you believe. Depending on how much action it sees, my cameras can go 4-6 weeks on fresh batteries. The Wildview IV & V have much better resolution & video capabilities, but are the same size/weight & run off the same 'c' cell batteries. Don't know how thier battery life compares, though, as I've yet to use one of them. If you sign up for myspace, you can see a bunch of pics that I've gotten w/ my Wildview I & II's at www.myspace.com/azbackcountry. Matt S. -
You'd be amazed at how good they are at climbing up stuff. My mexican king escaped a while back & ended up on top of a shelf in the laundry room that's about six & a half feet high. He was on the loose for about 3 days before I heard him knock something off that shelf & found him.

I love hunting the desert in the late season, but during the August hunt I ditch the rattlers, scorpions & triple digit temperatures by hunting the White Mountains. Our favorite area is between 8000-9000 ft in elevation & we sit in treestands. I see animals moving at all times of day, so I usually hunt from sunrise to sunset. We most often see mulies, but occasionally a coues deer will appear. We also see a lot of elk, bears, bobcats & foxes over there. Matt S.

1st real success with trail cam
mattys281 replied to Gr8 White Jr's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Trail cams are an addiction in their own right. I've got three out now & am planning on setting up a couple more this weekend. You certainly won't regret buying one. -
I posted a couple more pics on another forum. If you look at these, you can get a good idea of it's size, as the spring it's laying next to is only 3-3.5 ft in length. I'm not sure that this is the same cat, looks smaller than the first to me, but is difficult to say as they're not in the same spot. http://www.huntingbrotherhood.com/showthread.php?t=526

1st real success with trail cam
mattys281 replied to Gr8 White Jr's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Trail cams are definetely an addicition. I bought a coupled used ones about two years ago (thanks Treestandman!), and also didn't have much luck the first couple times out. I've got 4 of them now (2 of which are currently deployed) & am looking to add a couple more to the herd. You learn the tricks quickly & it sure seems like you're onto a hot spot already. Thanks for sharing & keep after it! Matt S. -
A couple real nice lookin pieces of work, Doug. I had enough trouble getting permission to put a "dead animal head" in my house, you must have your boss trainded better than I do. You got some great sheds! Matt S.

I think that is the same female that was hangin around last summer. I've got a couple shots of her facing away & can't see any danglers, so I'm pretty sure it's a 'she'. I'm glad she made it another year, I enjoy seeing her pics.

I thought it was only Uncle Rico who could fire a pig skin over them mountains.

I like the category idea. Anyone know a good spot to find some thiefs & smugglers? Metro-center parking lot maybe? -
Arizona Elk, Deer and Wolves
mattys281 replied to longshooter's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I don't have numbers to back this up, but it seems to me that I've seen more articles on the evening news this last year pertaining to coyote, lion & bear attacks on humans than ever before. The cause most often sited is the encroachment of human development into the animals habitat along with drought conditions focing animals to cover more ground looking for food & water. Let's throw another large predator into the mix, that should "balance" things out! -

enviroMENTAList are killing this country
mattys281 replied to DesertBull's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Barbera Boxer says she wants to drill in the US, just not in her state. Can't blame her. That's the same way I feel about mining. It's necessary, everyone knows it, I just wish it was isolated to Texas instead of being all over my moutains in Az. -

Be realistic guys, they can't allow a U.S. owned firm to be responsible for bringing the cost of an essential energy source down to a reasonable price. How are we supposed to have a recession if all of a sudden the market is flooded w/ affordable domestic oil?! Next thing you know people will be taveling, going on vacations, spending money in other states & stimulating their local economies, etc...
