They seem in no big hurry to release the draw results, but I know I've got a tag coming from my credit card statement, so we might as well have some fun with it until then: I think my buddy & I got our Kaibab archery muley tags & we're both putting big'ins on the ground. This was our first choice & the other 4 options we filled up with December whitetail tags, so it seems unlikely we drew those. I also think my daughter got the Kaibab doe youth tag (first choice on her app), so she'll fill the freezer. I have no clue which javelina tag she drew, but as I'm not great with javi's & I'd rather dedicate more vacation time to her deer tag, we may well get skunked on that one.

If you're in a decent spot you'll definetely get pics. And at that range your cams are probably safe although last year I lost one about a mile into a wilderness area. Just never know. The same guys I mentioned before also explained to me and my buddy I was with that you have to keep that salt going for several years before it really heats up. Its all about the does. They show their fawns and then they show their fawns etc. After four or five years there will be several generations of deer who know about it.

You got access to hunting ground out there? Im supposed to be heading up to nebraska this fall to hunt eastern whiteys with a buddy but dont know if I'll make it now that I have two deer tags and a javi tag in my house that need filling. Always next year I guess.

Tried to lighten it up a little. He doesn't look too bad to me. Looks young, he'll be better next year.

I always drop at least 40 lbs at a time. Even at that, cattle can decimate it in a matter of days, leaving little or nothing for deer. I talked to some guys in the white mountains a few years ago who said they drop 200lbs. at a time. Their cameras are atv accessible, where as I carry it all in on my back, so not a real strong option for me.

I know that song. I had a November WT tag last year but tagged a little forky mule deer in sept instead. The good thing about that is that I was able to transfer my rifle tag to my daughter. We didn't get one for her but it was a memorable experience to say the least. -
What a shame. Rip

I sure love the desert muleys. Nice pics!

I think youre probably right on the money. Im not a fan of having my picture taken but rather than mess with peoples stuff I just walk behind the cameras I spot. This both prevents my picture ending up on the interweb and preserves the other persons feeling that their spot is still a secret. Although, in the interest of full disclosure, if anyone running cams in 24b ends up with a pic of a hairy bum with a mole on the right cheek.... I dont know anything about it.

I think the elevation is a poor indicator. Ive seen many coues deer below the 2500ft mark in 37b and also many above 9000 ft in 27. Deer go where they want when they want, regardless of what the books or altimeter have to say on it.

Hard to tell much from a couple trail cam pictures. He could be the nastiest most evil son of a gun on the planet who's out there tearing apart the forest with reckless abandon, or he could be some guy who doesn't hunt and is just out playing with his pathfinder thinking that he's not hurting anyone. Very few non-hunters are up to date on all the forest rules, unless they're posted on a huge 8'×12' sign every half mile. As a matter of fact, most of the guys I know who do hunt dont know most of the rules.

Whats wrong with that? Seems legit. I do most of my hunting alone. The fewer people that are involved the easier it is to stick to the plan. You only gotta remember two things out there: a.) Dont fall down. 2.) Dont freeze and 3.) Bring some extra water.

I think your making a good first step here. Ive met some real nice folks on this site a couple of which turned into good friends.

Seems like the areas mentioned d already have plenty of black bears lions and thanks to enviro-nuts, wolves. Sure, lets bring in another top order predator. That can't go badly.

Maybe contact the Wounded Warrior folks or some organization like that?

Haha ya but but shot was bad not even a blood stain on it. I've considered trying one of the deer-hats, but with as many folks that are lobbing arrows at 80-100 yards these days, I'll not be dressing like an antelope. Takes more faith in humanity & bigger stones than I have.

Almost new, only one arrow hole through them?

Any interest in minox 15x's ?

True statement. But that's half the fun of hunting season anyway, the anticipation & the high hopes leading up to it. It's easy to dream about those big kaibab bucks, but truth be told, a trophy hunter I am not. All it'll take is a nice forky with eye gaurds to make my trigger finger start twitching. I just hope it's a big'en that walks by first. -
Those were exactly the kind of mules I was thinking of. Didn't see any toting big packs like that, but I witnessed a few new democrats make their way into the US a few years ago when hunting south of Tucson with a buddy.

A tank of gas to drive up to 3c for your hunt: $75 Pair of Nikon Monarch bincoulars: $250 Spending a night of 'camping out' (aka drunken debauchery at the nudey bar): Priceless! Penicillin shot from your primary care physician: $30 copay.
-
Man, does that suck! But thats no excuse for staying out of the woods. Get out there with a camera or video for a buddy.

Now I know it must be getting close to archery season, I though about shooting yesterday. That's twice this week I thought about it.
-
Would you rather buy from Big Box stores or the little guy?

I honestly dont know how small shops keep their doors open. I tried to open a small archery shop several years ago and quickly found my wholesale prices were as much or more than c abelas and bass pro shops retail prices. I would never try it again in this corporate country. I like to stick with small business when it s feasible.
