You bowhunters getting antsy yet???
mattys281 replied to mattys281's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Yeah they're pretty good for that area. I usually see some bigger stuff over in 27 but for the january hunt I tend to stick closer to home. Any one of these guys will make the wall. Especially that little ten pointer. -
Nice! That buck is a STUD! Congrats!

I took my camera down before rifle seasons started, but here's some pics of who was hanging around through the summer. Here's some of the boys: This little girl is pretty special too me, I call her 'The Dog-eared Doe' for very obvious reasons. I've seen here several times in person & been fairly close to her. Not really close enough to take any good pics, but close enough to see it's her. I first spotted her out there in 2009 I think, maybe 2010. Anyhow, I'd see her and get her on trail cam every year for about 3 years, then I didn't see her for a couple years, but this year she turned back up. I've seen her with many fawns and yearlings trailing her. She appears to be a very good mommy. I guess she must be at least 6 years old, based on how long I've know about her. -
Congrats to you guys! That's a very rewarding way to take a deer home.

Nice work. Only thing better than getting one for yourself is helping someone else get their first!

New to Arizona hunting. Tips?
mattys281 replied to TripleThreatKris's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
One of the best things about az is that there is huge variety here. A huge variety of game something like 10 or 11 different big game species. I think its five different climatic zones too, ranging from desert areas around the 1000 ft mark to alpine above tree line atover 12000 ft. WWith thAt comes the opportunity to hunt using lots of different tactics in lots of different areas. The terrain should dictate your method. If your hunting high in thick timber or some areas that are steep, rocky and choked with brush that reeks of an ambush situation to me. Other areas are more open and have softer soil making stalking more possible. Ive done both in the same day trying to glass and stalk from morning until afternoon and then holing up in a saddle for the last couple of hours of the evening. Welcome to the site and good luck! -

Your reason and logic have no place in a discussion concerning enviro-nuts. -

Spent some time flipping through trail cam pics last night. Theres a decent 10 point and a couple nice little 8s floating around out on my ridge. Or was at least. Sure hope they made it through rifle season. I'll be out trying to put glass on them as soon as I finish my daughters youth hunt next weekend. -
Looks good to me. If you can shoot like that under pressure, I see lots of dead deer in your future.

Sounds a lot like one shot.

nice buck! Congrats!

+1 on this. I usually start by glassing the saddles, benches, areas that look 'bucky', then if I dont find anything I start the grid glassing process and look at everything I can see.

Congrats to your dad and thanks for sharing the pics. I love those big 4x4 mulies!
-
I was gonna go with man-bear-pig, but I think this one nailed it.

Nice buck. Congrats!

Ok conspiracy theorists, how far is this going to go? I knew when all these fast-food workers started protesting there'd be some changes made. Some restaurants are already starting to use kiosks for your order rather than people. I was surprised to see this from Lowes though. This does not bode well for the entry-level work force. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/not-science-fiction--lowe-s-to-debut-robotic-shopping-assiciates-150411173.html

AI at Lowes - is it the beginning of the end???
mattys281 replied to mattys281's topic in The Campfire
To me this story is pretty dang scary. Ive been reading about the robotics in the work force scenario for more than ten years since before honda had their robot ringing the opening bell at the NYSE. Im honestly surprised it took this long to happen. -
190" coues killed in southern AZ?!?!?
mattys281 replied to GreyGhost85's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Thank god! That means the real 191" buck is still out there. -
Sure seems like you fellas definetely have it figured out. Congrats to you and your son. Thats a very impressive accomplishment.

Good deal. I bought one of their spotters a couple years ago and thought it was really good glass. Just too big & heavy for my taste though so I ended up returning it. I've been interested in their binos, but haven't had the opportunity to try them out.

Home depot must send their employees to the same training. The one by my house is so bad for finding someone to help that my wife refuses to go in there. -
Congrats, that's an awesome buck. Looks heavy! Helluva pack out I'll bet.

I hate to say it Johnnie, but she may be right. Looks like she does just fine on her own. Congrats to her.
