Let me set everybody straight on something right now: this rumor about 'new' equipment making long shots easier/ more ethical/more common is crap. It is nothing but marketing propoganda from modern bow manufacturers. Thats not an opinion, its a fact. Heres the supporting facts: Ive been shooting compound bows for 23 years now. More than 15 years ago I built myself a shooting machine for tuning ny bows, and my pse dominators and my pse polaris (cheapest bow in their lineup back then) would skewer quarter size targets and split arrows over and over a again at 20 yards 15 years ago. The first arrow I split was with a woodriser compound bow that was already old when I bought it from a pawn shop for $150. Any bow that shoots that well is more than capable of hitting a deer lung size target at 100. The limiting factor is and has been the shooter. There are only two things necessary for making a 100yard shot. A steady aim and (drum roll please) ...... KNOWN YARDAGE! Anybody whos a decent shot, has a calm day and knows the exact yardage can kill a deer or paper or anything else at these ranges, even with a bow thats 20 years old. Laser range finders made these shots more common, not faster bows. When I was in high school and the first p.o.s. bushnell laser ranger hit the market, the success rate for antelope in my home unit of 19b tripled. All of a sudden everyone was killing one, many of which were taken at over 70 yards. Know what the net result was? It suddenly got a lot harder to draw a goat tag. Newer bows are a bit faster, but I knew plenty of guys shooting the 300+ fps rigs with overdraws way back when in the 90s. And there was also plenty of people griping over the ethics of it back then too, but there was no interweb forums to exasperate the whine fest.

Nice! My wife love to camp and picnic and she likes the meat I bring home, but there's no interest at all in doing it herself. Congrats to her & you're a lucky guy that she goes with you.

10 yards, 1000 yards, who cares. Its only unethical if you shoot a mathews. Or use trail cameras. Or run a salt bait. Or use $3000 range finding binos. Or harry potters invisibility cloak. And dont even think about sitting an ambush, because that's lazy and stupid and not real hunting. Dont read a book to pass the time either, you should spend your day in quiet contemplation communing with would sprites, unicorns and the victoria secret angels. Actually if you messing with the girls in feathers then you're in MY spot and had better get the #! $@ out! Congrats again on a great buck. -
^^^^ this. Got me before, same sitchy-ation

Congrats on a fine buck! And on having 30/20 vision. Heck, I can barely see the target past 60 any more. Sucks getting old.... -
What is next for the Prez?

As much as I would like to see his next move be a short drop with a sudden stop, I cant say that I disagree with this move. In spite of the 'to protect and serve' or whatever else is written on their car, I dont believe the police will ever be a force that stands against the fed in protection of citizens and their civil liberties. The local leos will be the thumb an overbearing federal government will use to squash your rights. Some may refuse, but most are family men who depend on their salaries and will do what theyre told leaning on the 'i just did my job' justification. That being the case, should civilians ever need to stand their ground, its nothing but our benefit for these pd's to have fewer tanks, automatic weapons, armor, etc. -
Nice! Good luck, sounds like the adventure of a lifetime.

We've had some great weather up in alpine this weekend. Got all kinds of rain on the way up from payson then it started snowing in show low last night and this morning we got snowed hailed and rained on all before noon. That'll teach me to start scouting in May. At least we got into some turkeys. Seen a fewhens today, but nothing bearded yet.

Great idea for a trade. I picked up one of those rangefinders a couple months ago and couldnt love it more! Good luck with your trade.

I personally would not take a shot like that at a big bull elk with archery tackle, but thats just me. A little coues deer or muley? You bet. It was inarguably a good and very effective shot, so I say a job well done.

I hear ya. I actually called and asked them if they had any plans to bring them back and of course the do not. It's a shame too, I think the Black Ice and the Marquis were the two in the diamond line up that actually gave it credibility and kept it from being a basspro/cabelas/wal-mart/cheapie p.o.s. line of bow. It was a helluva total package bow at a very reasonable price. I may change my mind down the road, but for now I have no plans at all to buy another compound. I'll probably drop a couple more deer with the ole Black Ice and then make the jump to a Fred Bear Super Grizzly recurve bow. That way I'll be extra super duper ethical without any form of technology or unfair advantages while missing deer.

I thought the same thing about two years ago, but just couldnt like that fancy brand new bow as much as my black ice. Ended up selling off the new bow on ebay after about 3 months of trying to like it better and I went and bought another black ice on ebay in case if my current one ever breaks or needs spare parts. It took a little work and some time, butTank finally forgave me for the betrayal and we're now just as tight as we ever were. I cant guarantee your black ice will be equally forgiving though, so if you really value your partnership, think twice about straying. Perhaps that $1000 you'll spend on a new bow could be better used on binoculars, sitka gear undies, or taking a fellow premier member to Christies Cabaret for a steak lunch and one or twenty beers tomorrow. Just throwing it out there...

+1 on that. I sold him a quiver a while back and he is as good as his word.

Nice goats! Keep 'em coming! -
Im a self taught guy and can tell you from experience that hooking up with one of the guys/gals that have offered will save you years of stumbling around trying to figure it out on your own. I got some real good advice from some folks on this site that has done well for me and met some great people from the cwt community. You're already heading in the right direction.

I can see nothing but good coming from educating the nonhunting public with some facts. Its a good push back against the sentimental dribble propaganda that the antis are shoveling.

Nice tight little group. Pretty soon you'll be replacing nocks and fletchings!

Where the hecks the sport in that? Anybody can do it sober! Sounds almost as much fun as sitting in a treestand for fourteen hours straight without a flask full of makers mark. -
Nice! I love the beagles, but can't convince my wife to let me have a howler...

Wow! How on earth did this go 3 pages deep before someone hit up Monty Python?! Im disappointed in all of us. "Of course I'm French! Why else would I speak with this out-raaaaageous auk-cent!" "Excuse me sir! Are you suggesting that a coconut migrated?" Classic stuff!
