For the next go around. Baitboxes which hold rat traps and poison are a good thing. Learn how and where rats travel, they scurry and want to be undetected, find cover routes and intersections. Learn how to set traps. Rats are a bit smarter then mice, they will jump (hop) over traps if it's an unfamiliar road block. Setting 2 or three will help because they sometimes hop the first but will land in the second or third. Keep a big snap trap inside the bait box as well, a dead rat inside is a straight up invite to others, mmm you smell that?!? The baitboxes are also helpful in terms of baits, depending on the dog you may or may not have. The chemical I am most familiar with is bromadiolone, contrac was my rodenticide of choice. Keep in mind secondary poisoning, the smaller the dog the more cautious i would be. At my house i have no problem running a contrac box outside of the dog fence and I have small dogs. Remember the idea is greedy little rodents will fill up on a free meal, even my tiny little Boston terriers can't fill up on dead poisoned rats enough to make it kill them.

The first proposal that got shot down was no cams within 1/4 mile of a point water source.

Now that the 6.5 is crazy popular ammo manufacturers have really made it an all around caliber. That puts it right next to the 7-08 which is a great all around caliber. You can go from 130 to 147 grain bullets and the 147 match that hornady makes are great performers. Last 2 hunts we were on the 147 put an almost 2" exit hole on my daughter's muley. My sons cow had a nice entrance and we could feel the bullet under the hide on the opposite side. That means it spent all of its energy in the boiler room where You want it. She probably went less the 20 yards. Your size frame I would recommend the 6.5. And as far as the best value for the money spent there's probably not a better shooting 6.5 then the ruger American predator. It's gonna be the best in its class for value and comes pre threaded for a brake or silencer. If you must have a heavier caliber my next favorite would be a 7 mag.

Unfortunately a few bad apples get the ranchers pissed off. They ignore the signs about gates and leave a bunch of crap behind, I honestly can't blame them for being pissed. I bet a whole lot of people are gonna wish the 1/4 mile rule passed last time around. If i had to choose between the 1/4 mile, a season or a complete ban i would go with the 1/4 mile rule. Hopefully they go with a season and not a complete ban.
