Just give him a call. He's pretty flexible and takes you right close to where he lives. His number is on the website.

Big browns I'm not a member and can't vote but hot dang! That's a heck of a buck! I don't know you personally but you have offered help to me personally for which I am grateful. I hope you win the contest, you are a good dude and apparently selfless. I'd love to see you win just to see you be able to do something selfless for a family member. That is awesome! Now get your butt down and here and lets do some fishing together!

Gnarly, thanks for sharing. I was surprised to see the one walking in this big rocks. Woulda never thought.

Thanks for the input this is another one I will look into.

NO. I can live on nothing but caramel corn and protein shakes and lose weight or gain weight depending on how many calories of it I consume. I could do the same with pizza or burgers. Or I could do it with legumes, roots, and "clean" foods. At the most basic level, its not a matter of what but how much (calories). Thanks for the input. I've always understood you could lose weight on snickers bars in the right proportions. I was only referencing this particular story as it was the only major food source at the time and how it wreaked havoc on the body when it came to insulin levels.

Curious, did you change any other habits other than diet and cutting back on the Booz? My buddy owns a crossfit gym and just did a paleo nutrition seminar that my wife and I attended. It all seemed to make sense as far as the science behind it but it sure is hard to give up pizza and burgers. If I go back to visit PA, any diet is gonna go out the window to get some pizza and cheesesteaks. In the end though I do think I would I would make it my basis but add a few things that are not technically allowed. In any case if we cut out the processed foods were a step ahead either way. Some what....I definitely lay off the deserts now and never ever drink soda or red bulls. I still eat red meat at least 2-3 times a week and still eat Mexican food ( corn tortillas only ) .. Once you lose the weight you can cheat a little now and then.. I'll have some beers on the weekend and a burger if I'm feeling it. I just keep it real simple and no wheat during the work week.. For instance on a Monday I will grill some chicken and eat it with a half avacado, tuesday night will be like salmon and a side salad...but on Friday when the wife and I want to drink a few we will just go to Native and order some hot wings and some beers. Thanks for the input. Avacado gets mentioned a lot in paleo, I just wish it didn't taste like crap. I've tried several times just can't bring myself to like it. I figure if I went paleo or something similar Friday night and Saturday would be the cheat day. Just can't give up pizza and burgers on the the grill. Thanks.

lmfao ya im sure it was. It also makes no sense at all and I would encourage you to seek out someone more qualified to be giving nutritional advice in 2016That being said, whatever floats your boat. You should look up "if it fits your macros" not paleo though if you want a diet you can stick to long term I get what your saying but our bodies aren't what really changed since the 1930's But food has changed drastically. I think it's still relevant but I will look into the macros thing. Not pushing paleo one way or another I'm still just searching for answers. I'd like to do something though that's a step in the right direction. Having 5 kids is also a factor since some of them are picky eaters. I just want to move in a direction other than what we've been doing as a family.

Yup he's an awesome dude. Lookin forward to spending time with him on the early elk hunt and up on the kaibab in late November. He hooked me up with a guide down here in SV that I'm hoping to go out with and learn a few more tricks. Have fun tomorrow!

I'm pretty sure the point was that you can still gain wait with minimal caloric intake if your eating foods not designed for your body.

Thats what I always thought. However According to the seminar that's not accurate. I'm not talking from experience because I'm just not a nutritionist and this could be wrong but, one of the talking points was this big Bertha chick on a Reservation in the 1930-40's. After being "moved" there there was a lack of game meat and sustainable farming land. They were subsidized something like 800 calorie per day rations in the form of wheat products like flour but they still managed to get fat. The whole point was that the diet would cause exponential spikes to their insulin levels causing the body to react defensively. Truthfully it's more than I understand about how the body works but it was really interesting. Either way if game meat is a big part of the diet, I'm down for it. And we could all stand to lose the junk food and add some veggies.

Not sure about the lakes up your way but keep in mind you don't necessarily need to get it waaayyy out there. Flatheads go to the shallows where the bluegills (or other bait fish) are at night. Look close at google earth where your fishing and try to find a gradual grade into the deep water and try there. If you pm me i'll guide you to an example of what I'm talking about. If I had a boat I would go into the middle of a cove that I know has a lot of gills sit in the center and cast out towards the edges. As far as casting make sure you have a good ounce slide sinker on it and a little longer pole helps.

Glassing with a legend - DuWane Adams Glassing Class
CatfishKev posted a topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
So after posting a thread on guide schools about whether they are worth it or not a few people mentioned Duwane's apprentice program. Then after doing other research on optics I came across his name on other websites and how he was well known for being the guy that was known for using 15's off a tripod to glass for trophy deer. Then again on this site his name had been mentioned pertaining to glassing and the lessons he gives. I recently upgraded to 15's off a tripod and the whole set up was new to me so I wanted to speed up the learning curve and gave him a call. Immediately on the phone I got a feeling that he was the kind of dude that loves to help people and he called me "son" a lot during the conversation (gave me warm fuzzies, hadn't had a lot of compliments as a kid I guess). We set up an appt. for the next weekend since I wanted to try and get out before the deer all lost their antlers. He came and picked me up from the motel in San Manuel and off we went to the backside of the catalinas. We talked about our accomplishments as hunters and he gave more "good for you son's" (more warm fuzzies), of course mine were a few hundred short of his. I could already tell it was gonna be a great morning. Once we got to the top of the ridge he started to explain things like where the deer will be and where they're going as well as why. He talked about food sources and when they are available. He stopped here and there to show me some of the food sources and what made them unique. He also gave a few tips on how to set up my own little honey hole. After glassing up a bunch of deer and getting pats on the back and some "good job sons" (more warm fuzzies) we headed back and he pointed this and that out on the way things to look for and whatnot. It was a great morning, and I'm looking forward to doing some volunteer work for him and in a couple years I hope to guide for him. I can tell you he is a great dude and I hope for him to be my mentor as a hunter. This is getting a little personal maybe but I could even see him as somewhat of a father figure. I would encourage anyone thinking about guide schools or anyone that just wants to be a better glasser to give him a call. He is a great dude.- 22 replies

I got someone building one for me right now. I will give her your number. You'll have to do it all over the phone she's in Sierra vista. Her names is Codi.
-
I would visit AZ first. Come to Sierra Vista and check it out, it's much nicer than tucson and phoenix IMO. It's usually 10-15 degrees cooler here than those places (4500 elevation) which get hotter than the devils butt crack. You can drive to the top of Carr canyon here and it's like the Poconos MTS. in PA up there. Theres decent amounts of work here for those with a good work ethic as well. I would also check out the Camp Verde area too. Similar in climate I believe to sierra vista but closer to water and elk country. I think I will be moving to Camp Verde in the next five years or so. If you make it to SV I'd be happy to show you around.

Yup, I apolagize for the language and the rant. I went back and erased it. I've been under an unusual amount of stress lately on top of being sick as a dog and blew off some stem last night. Perhaps a little too much. So I aplogize for being a scmuck about it.
-
Good lord, who turned it into a rant?? I made a comment, such is the life of a forum..
-
Yeah it was a joke I get that, but as a father I can't help but feel a bit protective. Are you saying I should never bring my daughter on a hunt? Like I said earlier.. what if it was your kid, or sister, or mother? Would you not do what you could to protect them?? And again not trying to be a hard a$$ just saying...
-
You might feel a little different when it's your daughter you feel the need to protect. On an average 1 in four women will experience some form of sexual assault, rape, moletsation or incest in their lifetime. I'm on a mission to not have my kids be on the downside of that list. Ask yourself what if that was my ... Wife, daughter, mother, sister aunt, even your son? Would you have such a cavalier attitude?? I'm not trying to be a tough guy, just a little protective is all.
-
FYI just showed my wife she's gonna post the pic on FB so all of our PA homies can have a look (were gonna make u famous). She's also dying to bowfish. WHAT LAKE?? I promise I won't post it online... LOL Doesn't look like Parker or Patagonia.
-
My daughter has been one of my best ever huntin buddies. Can't imagine takin my daghter on a hunt I might be guiding someday and have some scumbag eyephukin her. Might get your a$$ thrown off a cliff. I'd hate to think I couldn't bring her along due to some such nonsense.
-
Thats awesome. Bowfishing is something Ive yet to do. It's on the list though. Congrats

Yup pm not working. All I can offer is my families prayers. Sorry about your son. That's way to young for news like that.
