Maybe putting some sort of oil (edible non toxic) on them before storage would help? Don't got nothing to lose I suppose.

I would like to say where am I but
CatfishKev replied to Non-Typical Solutions's topic in The Campfire
i think its name should be hollywood. You have a whole dedicated 300 gig computer just full of these to use at will don't you? -
Case closed! Let's eat some horses. (quietly)

Ok let's get down to brass tax here. What do these beasts taste like??? I think as hunters we could solve this problem quitely and "in house". Everyone should do there part, (quitely and with no pics).

Did these guys know what was coming ahead of time? Did they have time to write notes to their wifes and kids etc.? Cant imagine what that would be like.. Id just want my family to know how much I loved them. The scariest thing about death for me is the wound it would cause my family, especially the kids.. That's rough right there.

Whats the longest youve left an Elk in the field
CatfishKev replied to trphyhntr's topic in Elk Hunting
I think it makes the bone act like a heat sink. Kind of like when you lay a frozen steak in a skillet, it sucks the cold out of the meat. Same concept just in reverse. -

Even if I quarter and hang quickly I will always split the hams now. I didn't know that meat spoils from the middle out so this was a new concept to me when I first heard it. That alone could save a lot of meat in warmer weather. -
Bob. I posted in the campfire. Seems like the place the post should have been. Im under the impression its called the campfire because its the place to bring something up that may also come up at, near or around a campfire. Seems like it really struck a nerve with you and Im not sure why??

Anyone going to be there? Wife and I will be. Hopefully it will be good. God knows we can use it. For anyone interested... Family Life Ministries is having their "Weekend to Remember" marriage retreat this weekend. Its at the Scottsdale Camelback Resort (Marriott). You can register at the door according to the email I got. Starts at 5 for check in and classes start at 7 I think.

Anyone use the new version yet? Curious to hear some feedback.

Well it's been pretty eye opening so far. After 16 years together and five kids we have had a lot of ups and downs. We have both done and said things that have hurt and cut each other to the core and once they are done you can never have a retake on those moments. My wife not only supports my hunting and fishing she WANTS me to. She also does both herself and I'd choose her hands down as my hunting buddy over my friends any day of the week. She's a keeper and were just trying to make this thing go full term. In my opinion anyone who is married or has a significant other could actually use something like this. It has been great so far.

I guess it's kind of like consoling but without the arguing and talking about your problems it's more like a sit down and listen to a bunch of seminars kind of thing.

Right on. Congrats on the kid.

wild/feral pigs in AZ where can i find some on public land?
CatfishKev replied to plee911's topic in Other Big Game
Have you heard back from your family in NM? If you get it nailed down I've been interested in hunting pigs there for a long time. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they are working their way into the chiricauas right now. -

Unit 33 Hot Spots and Honey Holes!
CatfishKev replied to bigorange's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
All over that one already...strapping that bad boy on the hood of the tram for a ride down the canyon! Lol, I'm gonna start strapping all of our animals to the hood. Sure I drive a truck and all, but how am I gonna piss off the tree huggers if they can't see what I killed? -
Man I thought those points would have given me better odds then that. I ended up putting them both in on separate apps. My boy has a cow tag which I think we will likely fill pretty quick. Hopefully one of them will get drawn for deer and we can take out time and find something decent. Thanks

Depends what you mean by "better job". Had a roofing company and a remodeling company. The roofing company was great and good for a steady grand per week with partners. I ran the company and my partner and his sons were the crew. Totally stress free. At the remodeling company I had to count on employees to do the work and I was "living the dream". The only problem was the dream was a nightmare. Man, I could tell you some tales... In any case the remodeling company made me hate business ownership so badly that I wanted to walk away from it completely. So I told my partner I'm out and I now work for a pest control company. In another year I can start my own company but be a one man show and only use my kids as employees (when and if needed). So now I'm just putting in my time. We decided were wanting to move up north next year and the pest control world kind of allows you to have time off for things like hunting so it's the perfect job for someone who loves the outdoor life. I don't regret leaving my other companies behind at all. I've learned a lot and know how to do lots of things pretty darn good. Sometimes you just have to take the leap of faith, it's scary but you'll never know unless you try. Just make sure you have a plan.

I asked a sign shop if I could take a pic of a deer to make my own picture decoy, she say they could. It was Apache signs in SV.

Advice on how to input my daughter for rifle deer tag
CatfishKev replied to BigDaddyDMD's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Definitely go do the hunters Ed course, for yourself as well. The extra bonus point is worth it. Then do the youth deer and elk camp that Dave is going to tell you about. We will be there again this year. My daughter got an elk last year and hopefully my son will this year. The deer hunt is the same time as the elk, good times for sure.
