Southern AZ Weather Expectations

It can vary a lot depending on where you are hunting as well. Did you have an area or unit in mind? It's cool to see out of state guys plan on trips out here. Be careful one visit might get you hooked and you will want to leave Chicago in the rear view. I'm from PA and have no desire to go back. I love it here. -
Vacation ideas for January hunt?
CatfishKev replied to Speedy's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Do you already have a pig tag? -
That is a cool buck. Welcome to the site.

Yup. Correction, I misread something. The DLX pg24 is cheaper at amazon.

The amazing smoke tubes and tray work great with the electric smoker. I don't even bother with the chip tray in mine anymore. As we speak I'm pulling the trigger on a pellet smoker off of Target.com of all places. Camp Chef Smoke pro DLX on sale. $429 delivered and with tax. Has everything but the sear box. Best deal I could find and the Traegers are too spendy for me.

If you ain't gonna eat it just shoot. Pics?

I have an electric smoker which is fine for smoking but like stated above the pellet smokers grill and bake as well. You can get some deals right now too. I'm thinking about losing the grill and electric smoker and just get a pellet grill.

Vacation ideas for January hunt?

Comes down to where you want to hunt. Az is full of sfuff. If your thinking chiricahuas I have a pass you can use. Also locally is Bisbee which is worth seeing once and tombstone also worth seeing once. Wilcox has a cowboy museum and you can stop on I10 and see the "thing". Not sure if I misunderstood, are you looking to hunt while your here or just a vacation? you can get an otc deer tag. Also there are a couple lakes if your into fishing. -
Looks good and smoky. Is Mennonite farmers the name brand of the mix? Never heard of it.
-
You looks great. I will have to give it a try.

Those tempered ones are the real deal right there.

Was some on Palmetto state armory and slickguns.com. Saw diamondbacks for $400 and and some kits on slickguns with 80% lowers for $269 with the lower for another $40 but could not find today. Ar10 kits for around $400.

Great deals on AR-15s and AR-10s this year. HD and Lowes have great deals and rebates on appliances. Amazon has 10" tablets for $99 and the others are cheaper as well. Let's hear em. Happy thanksgiving you guys.

Before I got my first elk i bought the outdoor edge video set on how to quarter and debone an animal in the field. It also came with a basic butchering video and game processing video. I've watched them several times. You are welcome to borrow them. Pm me your address if you want. He uses a small cow elk in his video.

Anyone still need to kill an elk on the 3c late archery tag?

Nice of you to put that out there. -
I was also surprised how many guys have cut themselves. This is a big eye opener for me. I also think rossislider had an old post I read about the gloves. They have been a godsend. And its great because after use I just toss them in the washing machine and they are good to go. I used to just glove the left hand and keep the right hand ungloved. Not with muliple people working on an animal though. Everyone should probably have both gloves on. Had a buddy cut my finger once with a regular walmart knife. Only think that stopped it from going deeper was my fingernail. Had it been a havolan type I would not have been so lucky.
-
Thanks rossislider I was hoping you would chime in. I would add to wear gloves when pressure washing. They can cut skin and inject water onto your hands and fingers.

Take pictures!

Congrats! Was this a youth hunt? What caliber is she shooting.

What are you guys adding to the water you boil in to remove the flesh? And do you use the same thing once it's clean to get the grease out of the bone? It's been years for me. I vaguely remember borax?

Hunts for Heroes needs help on Ft. Huachuca THIS weekend!
CatfishKev replied to Lv2hnt's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
It was an honor to be a small part of this hunt. Levi and his brother Duggan both had tags. Levi filled his archery tag in the summer hunt so donated the rifle tag to Carlton through hunts for heroes. Jayce from H4H came out to help along with Gale who is also Duggans father in law. Since Levis bro still had a tag they decided to all hunt together. Last night they had spotted two bucks and left them for first light. By the time I got there this morning Jayce was at the trucks keeping an eye on the bedded bucks and the guys were already in position on a ridge waiting for them to stand up. Once the big buck got up be made his way to an opening and a shot rang out. Clean miss. A minute later I saw the buck crumble a second before I heard the shot. It was awesome. In the excitment we lost the smaller buck then picked him up again. Couple minutes later the next shot went off and it was a hit. After moving in to finish him off the guys bumped him but got back on him and finished the job. Congrats to Carlton our wounded warrior and to Duggan on both of there very first bucks! These guys were all smiles it was great. Duggan and his first deer with Levi Duggan and Carlton 2 nice bucks Carlton with his first buck and the volunteers. Gale on the left then Jayce and myself. I did nothing but show up. Hats off to Jayce and Gale for volunteering and for Levi for the tag donation.
