Thanksgiving Coues with Dad and Brother
Okbow87 replied to Manaya's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Congrats! Spending time in the outdoors with family and friends is what it's all about for me. -
My pick to win the super bowl is the Cardinals. My sleeper pick for a good team, but not sb champ is the Jaguars.

Looking like a point only for me. Congrats to those who drew something!

backpacking in the southern units, mainly 36b
Okbow87 replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Has there ever been a case of illegals messing with a hunter? I am interested in possibly backpacking in to some of these units as well. I am thinking the only other limiting factor is going to be finding a reliable water source. Is that even possible in the border units? -
Rifle & Scope for First Coues Hunt
Okbow87 replied to Kimber_Hunter's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Not that I am an experience coues hunter or anything, but my vote would be for whichever rifle you shoot better and feel more confident with. If I had to guess, you probably shoot the 7 mag better, those ultra lightweight rifles like the mountain ascent are tough to shoot and really bring out any flaws in a guys form. -
First year doing any kind of application with AZ, and it went smooth as silk for me. Bought my combo license, and then went back and did elk and antelope separate. Points only for me this year, and will be adding a deer point later on.

Hey everybody! Just wanted to introduce myself a bit. My name is Colin, 28 year old career firefighter here in Oklahoma. I have been tossing around the idea of starting to build some points in AZ and all my research on units keeps leading me here. So I decided I better sign up and try to contribute to the forum some. I am mostly interested in building points and hunting elk on late season rifle hunts or easier to draw early archery hunts. Also coues deer rifle hunts as frequent as possible. I have never had the pleasure of hunting them, but those little deer really have my attention. I don't think I have the patience to wait for any glory elk units or antelope tags. I am interested to see how the new draw process affects the draw odds. I'm hoping some of the elk hunts I have my eye on will drop a point or two. As difficult as Wyoming is to understand, Arizona is even more difficult for me. As far as I can tell there is no way to find out exactly what tags where drawn with what points by non residents? I hunt Oklahoma and Wyoming pretty much every year. Most of my time in Wyoming is spent guiding for a friends family outfitting business, but do hunt away from there on my own. Also have hunted public in western Kansas, Colorado, and New Mexico. And I have one trip to Kodiak Island under my belt after last September. Custom rifles and shooting is my main hobby away from hunting. Our local rifle club has monthly steel matches here in OK all over the state. I also try to shoot in one or two of the bigger PRS matches a year. Looking forward to being a member here!

Night Force SHV & Burris XTR II Scopes
Okbow87 replied to darrcolburn's topic in Long Range Shooting
For about 5 oz more weight penalty and just a little more money you can find used vortex gen 1 razor's. With some looking and patience you can get them for $1300-$1400. They are great scopes. I haven't had my hands on a SHV F1 yet, but I would think it would be a solid choice for the money based on my experience with their other products. -
7mm Rem Mag Memorial Build
Okbow87 replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Great rifle build thread Lance. I am always looking for the same scope, but can never find one that fits the perfect specs. The 4-16x42 f1 is the closest I can come up with. Just ordered a 3-18 gen 2 razor to run on my match rifle this year. It is a little chunky for a light hunting gun, as I'm sure you know. -
The elk hunts I have my eye on are units 5b and 6a late rifle. Hoping with the new rules I can get a tag with more like 4-6 points. That may be a pipe dream though. Going to get a point only for deer this year, and then try to draw something like the 24a late November coues hunt next year. It looks like I could have a chance at it this year, but my first kiddo was just born 4 weeks ago. Not sure how much I want to be gone from home next fall, and already have a fairly full plate as long as my draws that should be sure things don't change.
