I'm gonna take my AR chambered in .223/5.56, w/ a Nikon M-223 3-12x42 sitting on top, shooting some Hornady Superformance loaded w/ 55gn GMX lead free all copper projectiles moving at 3250fps. Should be perfect IMO. Before I did my research I was hoping to jus take some reloads w/ some 55gn Z-Max's n shoot um in the medulla like Ol' Dap on Pigman, but from what I understand varmint round won't penetrate as much as they will disintegrate. My watermelon test, confirmed that lolz. As far as distance goes, n not to be cocky n over confident but I'm extremely comfortable < 200yds. It's zeroed at 100 n below is a 5rd group at 100yds. Thx for all your input n good luck on ur hunts guys!!!

Found n watched um again for 2hrs this morning, awesomeness!!! Got up on time, but shoulda payed got a better look at the lay of the land before it got dark last night ugh hiked up the ridge, peaked over the edge just to find another knob obstructing my view, damnit! Backed out, hiked down the drainage between the 2, got up on top, setup n started glassing the opposing hillside, 10mins in n BAM, pigs. Time chk 8:16, yardage chk 528, head count, yah buddy same herd as yesterday. Watched um feed down to 326yds, when they all got covered up, I got ballsy, packed up n snuck down closer, ranged a fatty at 136yds. I'd take that shot, given that same wind n setup again. Let um settle n backed out, packed up camp n came back to Chandler, can't wait to go back up!

4 weekends of scouting, about 1000 miles to n from, going on 5 tanks of fuel, lost track of how many hours glassing, n I FINALLY found um this afternoon. Decent size herd too, 9 adults n 1 juvenile. Watched um for 2hrs n they put on a good show, playing follow the leader, nose to tail rubbing scent on eachother, dog piling, grazing mode, alert mode, you name it. Staying up here 2nite solo, I wanna see what they're gonna do n where they're gonna be in the morning. I know this is jus the tip of the iceberg n it ain't over yet but I wanted to say thx u guys for all ur help so far!!!

Good luck dude! Be safe if ur going alone. What unit?

Exactly. I'm jus gonna throw out my $0.02 here. I'm a noob hunter but avid shooter. I don't have a spotter yet but judging by the terrain in the unit I got drawn for javey in, I couldn't guarantee if I'd get a prone shot, so I picked up a Bog Pod. Practiced shooting off it sitting n kneeling so far n luv it. When I go scouting, I take it with me n prop my binos on it, saves my shoulders, n to be honest it's probly the best investment I've made in a while. Seriously. Once I do decide on a spotter, I can pick up the attachment for that too. Plus when the terrain calls for it, I can use it as a walking stick. Boom, 3 birds, one stone, stick, wtfe. Hope that helps, good luck

Speaking of plenty of other hunters I've got the same tag as u, went up to scout north of Roosevelt yesterday, saw about a dozen does, one buck, cattle galore, n a small herd of javeys by mid morning, cool! I went up there again this morning, n besides the 2 does I saw at 1st light, all I saw all day was other hunters one dude parked right on top of me! Another dude was down the way, playing w/ his drone. Freakin unreal! I'm assuming opening day is gonna be 10x worse, so I'm calling that place a bust. Good luck on ur hunt
