Sorry Im fairly new to this site and was just cruising around and saw this. I live in San Diego county and work with guys that fish in a regular basis yes the fishing is good but also the amount of fishing pressure has been huge as well. For every boat that has been catching there has been a dozen that are coming up with nothing. I would love to see a gamble pay off but I would also hate to see your son come up empty handed. Also a lot of the big blue fin being caught are by guys that have tailored gear and the right jigs and such, big money stuff. Although there are still blue fin on the bite that will take bait its not the wide open bite that they want you to think. For that time of year I would look into going White Sea bass fishing up around Catalina island and get a couple more people and get a 6 pack charter. They try to load up on live squid then slip into the back side of the island and get some big 60lb White Sea bass.

Just wanted to take a minute to say be careful when skinning out your animal I shanked myself in the leg last week. It seems there are a lot of these stories going around and every time Ive used one of these things no matter how careful I am I at least skin a knuckle. This time it was much worse I sank a blade in my knee last friday morning and ruined the rest of my season. Im lucky to be here it could have been worse I could have hit an artery or not had any cell phone service. While sitting there on the desert floor I knew I wouldnt be able to get myself and the animal out by myself and I would need some help. I called the closest field office but they were closed so I called Game Thief and they hooked me up with an agent. I dropped him a pin and he said he would start working his way toward me. I sat there for a couple hours by myself I was able to get the head off and get some loose meat and a back Strap off. When the game warden got to me he had also brought a local farmer that had a Jeep which I was very thankful for. They loaded me and what was left of my deer in the Jeep and took me over to my truck. They helped me pack my truck and threw a couple quarters and the loosed meat in my cooler and I headed for the hospital. It took me about 40 minutes to get there I had to sit on the edge of my seat and use my damaged leg to run the pedals while bleeding all over the floor mats the whole time. Finaly I got to the hospital and the end result was a night in the hospital after surgery for a partially lacerated quad tendon. I believe fatigue played a big part in this I hadnt got much sleep the couple nights leading up to this hunt and I dont feel like I was at the top of my game. Keep your situational awareness up at all time accidents are around every corner and a lot of our hunts dont occur without great cell service or accessibility.

Yes there is a lesson in a this about cutting away from your self and also slowing down although I take my time for sure to me thats the best part, the hunt is almost over thats all I have left is quartering a deer and a couple pack outs then its off to the butcher and some cleanup. There is also another lesson in all this about not overdoing it. I was burning the candle at both ends I had a work trip that had me up early in Wisconsin Thursday morning for a flight home and I didnt sleep much that night then I turned around and packed up and left for the desert wear my pad popped and I had a second night of poor sleep. These tags make us push harder than we normally would. We have a week dont matter whats going on its go time and time to push and lay it all out, at least for me it is. Im a professional fireman for a living and thats all we talk about is situational awareness and fatigue. I screwed up I didnt recognize my fatigue levels and react properly. I should have gave up opening morning for a good night sleep but that drive to get to that peak, glass at first light, get that first and best opertunity. Man those tags those little pieces of paper will turn us into mad men and give you drive like nothing else at least that what it does for me. Stay frosty gents.

When you mention adding something to the water your looking for sodium carbonate basically what Oxi Clean is but read your labels and get the cheap stuff no need to spend too much just as long as its sodium carbonate not to be confused with sodium bicarbonate.

Thats a smart move if I ever try and go in a solo hunt again I think I may return to divorce papers

I didnt want to focus in on one particular brand I have both havalon and outdoor edge and they skin knuckles equally this was with the outdoor edge but I feel these stories are becoming more and more common maybe not this bad but more common. I dont WANT to think they are more dangerous I just dont think the world is ready for this kind of sharpness. These things are scalpels and when doctors use scalpels they are in controlled environments with bright lights and their patient is on a table at their level. When do we use them? We use them with headlamps on the ground and if were lucky a buddy to hold a leg.

I'm looking to do some optics upgrades and need a little help. I have a small outdoorsman tripod that I like to keep in my pack but I need something taller with more stability for the back or the truck or ranger when weight isn't and issue and were glassing from road or at the range. With that I'm looking to buy a pair of tripod heads to keep things flowing and not have to switch things around. As far as budget I'm a middle of the road guy and am not dedicated to any brands just trying to make it not too painful.

Good idea to get another truck I heard yours smells like sweaty men and bad decisions. Take a look at the tundras I love mine it's awesome off road, pulls great, easy maintenance, and I haven't had one problem. Although I did have a 6.no before that, Cabelas took away my platinum card when I sold that truck.

This time last year I already had my biggest buck to date on the ground and was enjoying my first elk hunt in AZ. I love your state and only wish I had discovered all it has to offer at a younger age and made the move early. I'm now halfway through my career in the fire service and hope that someday you'll have room for me when I retire. I love reading about all the hunting adventures and what AZ has to offer keep at it and happy holidays.

Shhhh..... there are no bucks in Yuma. Story on the buck is that it was my first solo hunt after I snapped my Achilles in the spring of 2014 I gave rehab all I had and went out on a mission in South West AZ to prove that I was back and could give it my all. Found this buck opening day during my down time I had been shooting a ton so I was ready for an open desert long shot. I ranged this buck and knew he was a shooter dialed it up and took a chip shot at 425.The buck staggered then dropped I was stoked. Yes I'm from So Cal born and raised had the opportunity to grow up around the last of a few hunting families in my community. Today I'm trying to stand tall and strong in a clearly anti environment. I live next to one of the only "long range" ranges in so cal so I get to practice and dream often. I'll be out there for rifle javi see you then..... Scooby

Thanks guys I apriciate I haven't fished there in 10 years but it was some of the best fishing I've ever had we always went around April. Great camp sites with power that we used to plug in the boat we would just pass out on cots and hope not to get trampled by donkeys which only happened once.

Hey guys it been years since I fished Alamo and am having trouble finding any kind of current fish report. I live in San Diego and have a buddy that really wants to head out there this fall. We used to camp and fish out of a bass boat but he would like to try it with a tube are there roads that can access different areas to get on some fish. If you need to we can trade ocean info for bass info I have a ton of guys in my circle of friends that ocean fish constantly. Thanks....

Trying to sell for a buddy he's needs a scope for a rifle I'm building him. Older (better) Sako M995 in .270 it is the same action as the TRG's action is super smooth and trigger is dang good for a factory trigger. The rifle has a factory synthetic stock that is Bell and Carlson quality but better fit. Has a Zeiss Conquest 3x9x50 on it now. Have a 100ish rounds of factory and reloads to throw in. Total round count is 100ish as well. The rifle shot well with the 130 grain Sierras but I think it will do much better with a 140 or heavier bullet. Would like to sell for $950 with scope and rounds. Will be in Welton for the dove opener if anyone is interested otherwise it would ship from so cal. Mike 760-525-6772

I have a Cabelas Alaknak 12x12 tent that has only been used 2 times. I'm only selling because it takes up a lot of space and I don't use it enough. I also have the optional vestibule,a Camp Chef cylinder stove, roof protector for embers, and 2 6x12 sections astro turf. I modified the stove by making a log lighter that plugs into a propane tank. It was 18 degrees in the morning on our recent elk hunt and we could have it up to the 70's with the wood stove fairly quick. No rips tears or issues. I also have about a dozen extra heavy duty steaks a 12x16 tarp to set it up on and protect the bottom. I can set it up for serious full price buyers only. I'm looking to get $1100 or trade for high end binos or an over under 20 ga. I'm in Southern California and would be willing to drive a little to meet within reason. I have not looked into shipping and was really hoping not to go that route. Mike 760-525-6772 I know I'm this is my first post but i've been lurking for awhile now and will start jumping in and contributing. Adam "Big Browns" has seen this tent and can verify thats its clean and squared away.
