Thanks for all of your replies. You are all making me feel better about going down there. One more question, do you know what all has to be in place to bring the deer back across the border if we do get one?

I spot and stalk while I am archery hunting for Coues' and would have to agree on the active scrape scent mentioned above. I used it on a very profound scrape line and then walked within bow range of the line while using a grunt call specially made for Coues' deer and this is what I have been rewarded with this method.

Good heck Charlie. I knew your bull was pretty nice, but the pics you sent to me over the phone just do no justice. congrats on your hunts this year. Your hard work has really paid off.

Congrats on a very nice looking buck.

Congrats to you guys on your hunt. Now your son may be well on his way to become a lifetime hunter.

Congrats on a job well done and deserved. Nice lookin buck.

I think you meant to say that is not just a toad, it is a wholly toad of a buck. Congrats to you that is awesome.

That looks like a job well done to me. Congrats to you all, they are very nice bucks.

Getting something is just a bonus to being able to get in the outdoors and experience the hunt. It is the memories that you make and remember together with family and friends that bring the real trophies home.

After a few real hard days of following elk, and 15 years worth of putting in for bull elk in Arizona, I finally got my first bull ever. We walked around for several miles, got into a lot of rut crazed bulls, passed on a few, missed a good 360-370 6x7, and finally got my bull. The problem is that as I came in here to put this post up, I realized I left my camera back in my pack in the camper, which I left back where we camped. So I'll have to post the pictures in the next day or two.

Finally had a chance to post a couple of pics. Sorry about the blood. I washed it off, but more came out after moving him a bit. Put a tape to him and it was 315.

Coyote hunting
jgabler replied to TATAat27's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
For the past week on my archery elk hunt, I witnessed the largest pack of yotes that I have ever seen. This pack actually stalked the elk calves and yearlings in the heards that we were around. While I was there, they managed to catch two of them throughout the week and killed them. If it wasn't so far away from home, I'd go back during this winter to get a few yotes. For a good pelt nowadays you can get 30-40 bucks out of it during the season. -
I know that it isn't completely the same as having your own cape on the bull, but I would give it real consideration to go into a taxidermist shop to see what kind of capes have been turned in if you want to get him mounted. There are several people who turn capes in that don't get theirs mounted.

I was lucky enough to draw an archery bull tag in 5B South this year. Not my premier hunt that I would loved to have had, but definately no complaints. Does anyone know the quality of bulls in the area. I know that you can find big bulls in all units, I have just never been in the unit before. 6A and 5A would be no problem, but I have no idea here. Just wondering if anyone had some bull pics. from the unit or had any advice. I am going to be limited on my scouting trips until September, but I'll do my best.

Wholly smokes, my jaw hit the ground and slapped the roof of my mouth. A nice buck like any of those and a 340" bull will be what I hope for in September. No rifle tag for deer, so a solid week of archery deer hunting and elk scouting before the elk hunt will hopefully pull through.

I have been thinking about the 87 side very much and down in the Juniper areas. With work I haven't been able to go scouting at all yet. My dad and uncle have been doing my scouting for me, and have ran into a lot of people that are going to be up on the northwest side of the unit. They have seen a lot, but they will shoot just about anything with antlers, and I am going to wait for a good quality bull for my first bull ever, hopefully around the 340 range that way I have something to look forward to get a bigger one. We'll see. It is my first bull tag and I can't wait much longer, especially looking at the antler growth in units 3 and 1. Do you guys know if the vegetation has been good in 5, I hope so with all of the rain. My adrenaline is already starting to flow.

CRB, what did you do to add some color to those sheds? They look pretty nice, if you don't mind sharing. Those are some awesome sheds as well.

Where's the pictures???
jgabler replied to Huntn coues's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Just as an example, I can see coueshunter's mounts that he posted when he got his 2006 buck back, but cannot see scottyboy's picture of his new rifle that he posted. I don't know if this might help or not. -

That is correct. I think that I am definately seeing the pictures that are loaded directly through here, but maybe not the other way since that is how I have loaded pictures through here and can see them. I'll have to look at the security settings on each computer and see if I can figure something out that way. -

I am having the same problem and I have used four different computers to see if it was my computer. I do see some peoples pictures, but others I cannot. I don't know if it is the different ways people download there pictures into it or what? I am clueless as well. -
I have a female dog for free to a good home. She will be 2 in August. She is the red merle color and is half Queensland Heeler and half Australian Shepard. She is really playful with anyone from kids to adults. She just doesn't get along with her sister very well. She just had her shots in March and will be good for a while again. I live in the Show Low area.

Can anybody answer this? About half of the pictures that people post I can see in their posts and the other half all I can see is the words that people type in without the pics. Do you know if my settings need to be changed or what, because I would sure like to see these pics that Younghunter is posting. Thanks.

Younghunter, I too have just drawn my first bull tag in my life, and it is an archery tag as well. I can't imagine trying to get in close enough to a bull with a few hundred more people in the areatrying to run around finding a deer. This is a bunch of horse crap. I was trying to go to school to wrok for these people and the more bonehead moves that hey keep doing, the more I am glad that I didn't. Everyone needs to ban together, go to the meetings, and voice their opinions against the G&F to try and bring reason to their minds.

Bull Elk...Compare Photos.....
jgabler replied to 111's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
It does look like the same bull to me as well. You must have a lot of patience to not take the shot on bull #2 because I would not have thought twice about it even though I would have known about bull #1. -
You are completely right Shortpants. That is more than likely what will happen as well. I will see a bull and get all excited since it will be my first bull ever and go right after him. I know that anything with a bow is a trophy, I just hope that I can calm my nerves enough to hold out for a little larger bull, depending on the growth trends this year.
