    Leupold repairs/cleaning

I sent in a old pair I'd picked up in Africa - made in Japan during that brief period when Leupold our sourced some. They replaced with BX-2, even called to ask if I wanted camouflaged or black. Excellent customer service - diehard Leupold fan here!

    Trigger weight ?

2.0 - 3.5 depending. It's not the WEIGHT, it's the crisp break and creep/travel. I've had triggers at 8 oz (way too light) and as heavy as 8lbs, all have been able to shoot accurately; as long as you get a clean, crisp break.

    backpacking tent and bag recommendations

tarp tent: light, strong, comfortable for one, snug for 2, bag: older campmor down bag, I also use a lighter bag for warmer weather and a colder bag if needed. Check the weather, one tent or a tarp will serve but one bag probably won't. Bivy's: Warm but you can't get dressed/undressed, and if you spend DAYS in a tent due to weather a bivy is not a good choice. Down bag: lighter, I've never had an issue with getting the wet, but I take care of my stuff and prevent it from getting wet. Opinions vary, obviously

    Backpack- advice?

I just sent a Jansport back to have the straps replaced. I guess the are North face now for backpacks, but Jansport for book/computer bags, COMPLETE rebuild/replace, 100% satisfaction with the service and company SO depending on who makes yours and if you are happy with it, return it in the off season, ask them to refurb, replace/repair the straps.

    Lap scope rings?

Typically, I don't lap the rings; never had to, UNTIl I scratched up a high dollar scope because of a undetected burr - OUCH!!! Take the rings to a 'smith or someone that has the lapping tool, it's far cheaper than buying one that you'll use only once or twice.
  9. Calmly talk to the bear, typically, once they realize you're human, they scatter. I've had MANY bear encounters and never had to shoot one. But should the need arise, then shoot, shoot shoot, reload and repeat!!!

    Don't forget to vote

YES, they will, look at Maryland, NY, Colorado, and Connecticut. ESTABLISHED firearms manufacturers in those states move operations to gun friendly states (Ruger is in Arizona). Bernie Sanders said it himself: As a Senator from NH, he'd never support gun control, but as PRESIDENT, he'd repeal the 2nd Amendment. Hillary says the 2nd Amendment is not an INDIVIDUAL Right, it's a State Right (Militia is National Guard in her opinion) Trump says he's pro-gun but his properties are gun free zones (??) but he has stated he favors a National Concealed Carry. I live in Georgia - we're the most gun friendly state!!!

Why is this not talked about?

And our current HMFIC won't use force against his muslim brothers, even though they have been killing themselves for centuries!!! Doesn't make good news, too worried that Trump kissed a girl.....

    Bad Scope?

Do you have access to another scope - no matter the brand or quality: Replace the scope, sight and shoot for consistency. FWIW I have a few extra scopes that I know are good and reliable to test on customer's guns.

Question about flying with a rifle

I am not sure about the mail it to yourself option, be sure to double check and even print the actual postal reg and the ATF regs. I'm not sure of the laws in Arizona and Oregon. I'd rather take it to a gun shop and have them ship it FFL to FFL, then you KNOW everything is legal and insured, it may cost a LITTLE more, but certainly worth it (to me). Also, In Oregon, you will be taking possession of a long gun without being a resident, so ship it to your relative in care of the gun shop. Actually, legally you can ship yourself to a gun shop, most will require a photo copy of driver's license, etc. Also, Southwest may charge for over size luggage, extra luggage, etc, so, in the end, it may not be a lot more to send it dealer to dealer, you'll have to complete the 4473 to "transfer" your gun to yourself. The case PROBABLY meets their requirements: I'd take it to the actual counter people and verify it (shipped a dog once and it was a NIGHTMARE trying to meet Delta's interpretation of their own policy!!) - get the name of the person you talk to, and , if possible, their supervisor's name also. Otherwise you show up and person "A" says OK, but person "B" says no, it must be blah blah blah. again, had that issue with Delta.

    What scale to get?

GreyFox mentioned 10-10 with the question marks, meaning the cast metal scale, not the plastic hanger and pan.

    What scale to get?

I am RCBS fan, get the metal (10-10??) model, send that one back to RCBS - they refurb/replace it. I too have a RCBS electronic but I just don't trust it, plus, Zombie Apocalypse - no power, no batteries...
  24. YOUTH Rifle, Mossberg 100 series, where there are spacers for the butt pad (increase LOP) as the kid grows, YOUTH Rifle, Short action, Unfortunately the 257, 7X57, 6.5X55 etc are designed for a "medium action" Too long for a "short" action and too short for a "long" action. YOUTH Rifle: 7-08 (7X57 ballistic twin) works in Short actions or a 243 though for YOUTH rifle I'd step up to the 7-08. PLUS when the kid grows, the gun can still have a full size stock and can be re-barreled to a 358 Win or 338 Fed.
  25. 1: Do you have a friend that handloads? He could teach you how and the expense is minimal. Initially the cost to get set up is rather large but most the basic stuff lasts a lifetime. the down side is you always want the latest greatest gadget! 2: Check the long range ballistics of the 243, it sheds energy fast after about 250 (lower BC) I LOVE my 243, no doubt but if I knew or expected longer shots, I'd grab my 7mm or 300 - Higher BC = less drop, greater velocity retention. As far as factory ammo in the 243, I've had MY best grouping with remingtons but not really done any long range work with those. Interestingly I spent a month in Europe recently, looked around in some sporting goods shops. In europe, ammo manufacturers market a box of 20 rounds with 5 each of different bullet weights/styles. GREAT idea, allows you to try different weights/styles without purchasing multiple boxes. Wish US ammo manufacturers would take note and follow suite.!
