Senior's unit 8 late rifle bull elk hunt
azbirdhunter88 replied to Markleo21377's topic in Elk Hunting
That’s how you get it done. Man that looked like a rough hunt. -
I guess the thing to do now is go live on your hunt. I started this trip off by leaving Buckeye Thursday morning and fighting bad weather to finally get here late last night. High winds in the 40s today and tomorrow Make for some interesting scouting. My rifle tag starts on Wednesday and runs for 10 days. Looking forward to this year as the growth I’ve heard is really good here this year. I’m fortunate enough to have a house here and some farms that have been in the family for years and years. A guest from here on CWT will be joining me next Friday and stay a week to hunt. I’ll keep you guys posted on the scouting and hunt itself when it rolls around. If your not familiar with Midwest deer hunting you probably think tree stands and blinds to kill deer. Here on our farms we spot and stalk just like AZ and take some long shots. A lot of our country here is open and flat as well as river bottoms.

Super important guy in my life. During his last year with us he still wanted to hunt and I would carry his oxygen tank as he shot pheasant over my dogs or deer on one of the farms. He literally hunted till he passed away.

I have a few thousand if you need more. -
One of the properties that I have is from my father in law and it was where that big mulie was living before opening day. Every year there is a big mulie living there but it never works out for me to kill one for one reason or another. Today was my last day to hunt and something told me to just go check that property again one last time. As I am glassing up a wind break I spot a buck but not a shooter. I keep looking and I see a buck I would be happy with for the fact that I haven’t been able to kill a deer on that property since he passed away from cancer 3 years ago. It was very special for me to kill this buck there knowing he was looking down on me today. This was his favorite place out of all the properties we have and he has so many stories of it. We purposely do not farm this one to keep more habitat for the deer and pheasant and even put in a water hole. This buck was for him and was an emotional day after it was all finished.

What a long hunt. I’m exhausted from all the early mornings and cleaning of deer for the last week and half. We had a great hunt here at the farm and were able to harvest a lot of animals. Adam ( bigbrowns ) came up for a few days and was able to see some new properties and some new stuff we have. We consistently saw deer after deer and picked our way through smaller bucks to finally get what we were happy with. I must have ground up and vacuum sealed 500 pounds of deer meat on this trip. Overall was a good hunt with good food and friends. Looking forward to next year.

You have a Tundra so yes you would tell tremendously.

I get that

Did you end up buying it? That kind of trailer weight doesn’t need bars.

Very nice bull

Y’all should have seen him shooting with those boots on.

I got the pics and video of that mule deer a couple days before season opened. From what I’m hearing through town is that some out of state hunters have been glassing off the road into that property of mine and made the buck nervous. He was last seen heading south of there on a creek bottom. I have another property kind of close to where he might be heading so hoping he gets comfy and hides out there.

Good deal
-
Just put a 2 5/16 or whatever ball it is on and tow. You’ll be fine without bars.
