    October hunt success!

Guess who's back. I have not posted in about three years, just got caught up in everyday life. My dad and all my friedns told me I MUST post the buck we got opening day of the October hunt. I know it is late, sorry. I just have a lot of things on my plate between work and school. I hope to get back into the website more often. Hope you enjoy the pictures. The buck is nontypical and the taxidermist that socred it said worst case senario 122 6/8. Shot @ 270 yards, 300 WSM. Nice to be back hope to hear from everyone.

    Whitetail rifle for my wife

liv4coues, I shoot a 300WSM, it has a muzzle break and a limb saver recoil pad. Beleive it or not, it kicks like the .243 I shot for years. She could shoot anything if you put muzzle break and or a recoil pad depending on the route you want to take. Not only does the muzzle pad help with recoil, but it also decreases the barrel whip helping with accuracy. Good luck.

    Tent Scandal

Get this..... We had a three tags in unit 33 first hunt. We had gone scouting several times and we found a nice camp spot, so my dad figured he would leave two day early (Wendsday) to get the good spot to camp. He got there and he found an abandoned tent in the camp spot. The tent was old, faded and had a hole in it, so it is safe to say it was abandoned. So he let it alone and found a spot near by. Later that night two guys came and camped in the spot where the tent was. The next day two different gentlemen came and started asking about the tent. We told them it was there so we left it alone a found another spot. Come to find out they admitted they left the tent there week or so ago. They said they confronted the other guys and one thing led to another and he wanted to get the sheriff involved. We said we didn't want to get involved and they left on good terms. Anyways I think trying to save a spot is a SCAM!!! If you want a spot take the time and go get it early. I think both sets of guys were wrong. What u think? About the hunt.....we saw over fifteen bucks but we couldn't find the one we wanted. I guess there's always bow season!!! Ryan

    Tent Scandal

Congrats on the deer, the computer here at work wouldn't allow the pics to upload, but it sound like a nice deer. On the second day my dad's friend was walking back to meet up with us and jumped a buck but I wasn't with him and he didn't have a tag. I will be looking foward to see the pics of the deer when I get home. As far as the whole tent thing goes, I just wanted to get some other hunters opinions on reserving spots, I didn't want to cause any troubles or get any specifics. Those guys had no business putting that tent up in the first place, then to threaten you guys on calling the police was even more obsurd. Well congrats again on the deer and will be looking forward to seeing the deer. My dad says thank for the pics. Ryan

Best/ most accurate factory .300 WSM bullet?

I shoot a model 70 300 WSM and I would to agree with TexasHunter on the Winchester ballistic silver tips 150 gr. That is all I have ever used and at the shooting range I can get some pretty good groups. They are expensive $38 a box, but they work well.

    Tent Scandal

I understand that everyone has things to do and lead busy lives, well so do I and that dosen't justify "reserving" spots. If someone leaves stuff out there and it gets ripped off they have no right to complain. I would never steal from someone and do not agree with people that do, but what do people expect now a days. I don't mean to affend anyone but I just don't agree with "reserving" spots.

    Guess the score.

I would say mid 90's. A wise man once said nets are for fish, I agree!!!

    Caliber preference

After reading all of the posts I almost forgot what the main topic was? i didn't read them all so forgive me if I'm reapeating. I would go with a 300 WSM but a 300 will do. I use to shoot a .243 and it got the job done. But if you make a bad shot, your too far, or something happens and you decide to let one fly unsteady, you want to make sure it has enough punch to get there and knock the deer down. Not saying you would or should take a bad shot, but in the heat of the moment when you jump a monster you never know. All the punch in the world dosen't mean a thing if you cannot hit what you shooting at. If you are comfortable with both go with the 300.

    Pick up yo pants playa!

SCAM!!! I do agree that people should not wear pants hanging off of their back side, but this is just another way for them to make money. They are getting as bad as the Game and Fish and their increase in permitt costs. Ha,ha,ha. But all jokes aside, I think there are bigger problems than people wearing pants to low. Just take a look around and I sure you can find many problems greater than saggy pants. I'm not one for politics, but I do have an opinion or two.

    Reloading for .264

I realize that there is a lot to reloading and I would probaly not do it myself. My Dad just shoots a .264 and he cannot find anyone in town to reload. He just wants to get 120 gr. reloads that are as close to factory load as possible. He shot 120 ballasitics for years and has killed GOBS of deer with them. I think we will try Gean at the Gun Show. Thanks again for everyones help. Ryan

    Reloading for .264

My dad shoots a .264 Win Mag. He use to have his shell reloaded but cannot find anyone willing to reload. Can anyone help me with this matter? He would like shoot 120 grain balistics. (and no, he/we do not want to reload ourselves) Thanks, Ryan

    Reloading for .264

GreyGhost85, I don't know a whole lot about reloading or different powers or anything at all. What is your recipe for killer loads? How does it differ from factory loads? Thanks, Ryan

    Reloading for .264

Yeah, I talked with Gene. As a matter of fact he has his own company Gene's Custom Ammo. He said he would be at the fair grounds for the gun show. The more I look into it, the more I realize how much money could save if I had my shells reloaded. I could image just how much I would save if I got all of the suff to reload myself.

  18. I am somewhat confused on the topic, maybe someone can help clairfy things. When I purchased my quad, I think I may have payed extra to get an RV plate for it. Now does what does that allow me to do or not to do??? I also purchased a permitt to ride on state trust land which I hang on the rear view mirror of my vehicle. Do I have to get something else to be "legal"??? Anyone know about the requirenments at the Dunes in Yuma??? I would appreicate any feedback. Thanks.

I don't agree with the fees to drive quads. I just walk and it seems to pay off!

    Opening Day Success

I watched as it was scored and judging by the slight differences 110-111. I agree nets are for fish good way to put it. I don't see how deer can be scored on being symmetrical, deer should get points for what the have regaurdless. Oh well.

    Shooting help!

I have always gone to the gun range in three points. It is kind of a far drive but they have ranges from 25 to 524 yards. Tucson Rifle Club, Inc. HC 2 Box 7128, Tucson, AZ 85735-9729, 520-822-5189

    35a hunt

Mulie Hunter, I think that your attitude is great and I like how you say that you still had a successfull trip even though your tag was not filled. My dad told me many years ago even though it is nice to get a deer, it is more important to enjoy the time out there together. I enjoy hearing about success like your! Good Luck in your future hunts.
