Well i can see that i did not get my point across , so let me put it to you in another way.!! The modern rifle hunter is playing right into hands of the Anti hunt Groups, They claim it is not the sport of our forfathers because it is not fare chase and they have a point, With the modern firearms and amunition of today if you can see it you can kill it. I build rifles that with a competent shooter behind it have the accuracy and energyto kill deer size game at 1000 yds, This is not hunting its shooting, if you think thats hunting your sport is in trouble. I have killed almost every species of big and medium game in north America and never had to shoot over 400 yds. my average is less than 200 yds

Why so much gun for Coues Deer? After 30 years as a Gunsmith,Custom Gun Builder and knowing the guys that that like to burn lots of powder, shoot Bullets at the speed of light,Burn up Barrels like cord wood have been my Bread&Butter, I have not forgot that the sport is called hunting. If you cannot get within range of a standard cartridge rifle your not hunting your shooting (killing) . If you want a rifle that is fun to shoot with little recoil and plenty of horse power to kill 80lb. deer look into Cartriges like 243 Win. 6mm Rem. 257 Rbts. if want a little faster ? 25/06, 240 Wby mag. 270 Win. 280 Rem. If you are a hunter that walks not road hunts you can have one of these put together that loaded weights between 5 and 6 pounds and shoots in one hole and still easy on your sholder.

I have ask the same question many times in the last 8 or 10 years, All of my Coues hunting has been done south of I. 10 and east of I. 19 so don't know about the deer north of there. I will tell you you need to spend A lot of time out with them to really understand there rut , They can be hot for 2 or 3 days then turn off fore a few days to a week , I belive this is caused by weather , They seem to do like elk the day after a good rain or snow watch out its going to happen. You can hunt one side of a mountain and find no rut , And go to the other side the same day and there Hot as heck. The key is time, I spend at least 2 weeks in Jan. early, mid, or late it dosn't seem to matter and generally find rutting some where.

deljack replied to fuentestm's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Hi Ernesto C. I have been thinking about your reply and you are 100% right, Tree stands are a personal choice. And some people call my Ghillie Suit a moving ground blind Good Luck. Deljack. -
Its a shame that P.Y. hase given in to the archery industery, And so many have forgotten what bowhunting is all about, And the rest never learned it!! Its clear now that we have less bowhunters (BOWMEN) hunting, And more hunters (rifle hunters) hunting with archery equipment, ( IF YOU DONT UNDERSTAND THIS LAST STATMENT) YOUR NOT A BOWMAN AND NEVER WILL BE!!

what is the most effective way to bowhunt coues?
deljack replied to fuentestm's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Depending on cover and terrain its spot and stalk or still hunt, Ground blinds and tree stands are BORING!!, Im 54 and can still get around and stick one if i watch the wind and move like a snail. (I still havent forgot what I learned in 1968 - 1970) -
I shoot a 55 to 60 Lb. stick 550 to 600 Gr. arrows (wood or Aluminum) 30 Yds. is my max for good shot placement, Have had complete pass thru on Mule Deer let alone Coues at around 25Yds.
