Less than a third have caught a fish and almost half have never been camping... Unreal. First thing that comes to my mind is "WTF do these people live for?" I help with the boy scouts in our community, and while I'm not a huge fan of the organization, I feel it gives these kids some exposure to important things. These are 12 and 13 year olds and they can't tie on a swivel or hook or make their own fire and tinfoil dinners. The group we have right now either don't have a dad at home or their dads don't seem to spend much time with them and show them the finer things in life. I feel tremendously blessed that I had a dad who took me on fishing and hunting trips when I was a kid. I think if there were more dads out there like mine and you guys, we wouldn't have near the problems we see with youth today.

I'm gonna go for a Leica 1600 in unit 32? But really good on ya for trying to find the rightful owner.

Success for a Rookie Coues Hunter

Good work and nice write up. That's a cool buck. You are a fast learner, way to get it done! -
I looked through this same setup a couple of weeks ago, I was very impressed with the clarity at 60x. Also a very packable scope. I will be buying one once I have the funds in a few months.

Nice. Tough to beat camel loins. I love watching my baby eat deer and elk meat. she wolfed down some coues steak tonight.

What's a decent head for Slik Sprint Pro

In response to azranger and red rabbit. There's an Allen screw if you pop off that small cap put some loc tite on it and snug it down and it'll get rid of that play. I have the 700rc2 and it's a good head. -
Sure wish I was on here at 2:24 pm. Somebody made out like a bandit.

If you go swaro get the hd. If not get the euro hd they should be going on sale around Christmas. I never was crazy about the bino/ranger combo on the Leica but my buddy has a pair and they were very handy on a coues rifle hunt. Optically they were sixes with my euros.

Outdoorsmans medium tripod / pistol grip /

I'm guessing it swings out and supports the stock when you're shooting -
Nice work. I remember on my late rifle hunt last year thinking how hard the late archery would be. Way to get it done.

Good news! I just found a bunch of Winchester 7 rem mag brass in my garage!

FWIW, I have a pair of Euros (meopta) and emailed meopta on what to use for cleaning. They replied with this... "to clean the lenses here we use acetone. As long as what you are using does not contain ammonia, you will be fine."

That's a pretty buck. Good job

Anyone hunting 30a late Nov hunt?
Hatchet Jack replied to Outdoorlife602's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Better lace up yer boots tight and maybe throw on a snake gaiter. Have fun wish I was goin -
had one buzz me while I was walking through a rock slide, never did see him. A guy I know said he had a black rattler crawl between his legs when he was sitting down glassing.

Looks like I got the leftover of the leftovers. Better than sittin home shuckin my nubbin I guess, and it's kinda close to home. Anybody else headed down for this hunt? I'll be goin solo, wouldn't mind camping with somebody just to ease my fears of getting shanked in my sleep. Pending wife approval I'm heading down in the next couple weekends to check out the access situation, or lack thereof. I need something to get me pumped for this hunt. From what I've searched it sounds like doom and gloom, but I'm gonna give it a go anyhow.

Good work. I love seeing bucks that guys have worked for

There is nothing worse than hitting an animal and not finding it. Nothing. It has happened to me once, it was a good hit at less than 400 yds but I was alone and wasn't able to call my shot. Looked for two full days for that deer, I knew he was dead, never did find him. At that point and I vowed to myself to do anything in my power to never have that happen again. That meant passing up 2 good bucks this year because they were 600 yds out. I would rather never even chamber a round on a hunt than wound/lose an animal. That sick feeling i had will stick in my mind forever. Does that mean I'm immune to losing an animal in the future? No way. I just wish the "shoot first then worry about what happens later" attitude I see a lot would go away.

30A October-Anybody else?
Hatchet Jack replied to Hatchet Jack's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Ended up going solo most of the hunt. Really had to work to find the deer. Saw two bigger bucks but without somebody there to call my shots and watch the deer I really wanted to make sure my shot was a slam dunk. Was watching an area I had seen a good buck bed when this guy came over the ridge at about 1 o clock on Wednesday. I decided for my first coues he was good enough and I was sick of the 2 hour hike into my glassing area. 1 shot at 350 and I tagged my first grey ghost. I gained so much respect for these amazing little deer. Such awesome animals. That country they call home will beat you down if you aren't ready. My sagebrush muley hunting friends back home have no idea haha. Already looking forward to next year and a little bigger buck hopefully. -
That stuff will dry up and you won't even notice it. Also I like to pop out those ear canal bones and it takes a lot of crap with it

Hatchet Jack replied to Hatchet Jack's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
That's a sweet buck so i'll forgive you for calling it an eight pointer haha. I ended up taking a smaller buck on Wednesday by myself. I will post up the pics here a little later. I'll tell you one thing you've got to be hungry for a coues or very very lucky in this unit. Those mountains punched me in the face every single day but I kept punching back till I finally made it happen on my first coues. -
FS: Either Minox 15X58 ED or Meopta Meostar 15X56
Hatchet Jack replied to BigSky's topic in Classified Ads
I'm with lance. I've compared side x side with most high end 15s including Leica and the swaro neu and the meopta leave nothing to be desired. -
Good work. I love wyoming. When the Mrs. decides she wants to move back closer to "home" I think i'll try for wyo instead of Utah.

Love meat eater. A guy that can actually hunt and doesn't need a private ranch or feed plot to do so. Plus no product plugs every 5 seconds
