Turkey Road Warrior - Ultimate Road Hunting Pro Edition
Hatchet Jack replied to Healy Arms's topic in The Campfire
If you're close enough to be bugged by road hunters, maybe just hunt a little farther from the road. -
Man I have really been thinking about this too. Instead of $1600 15x and $1000 10x binos, which are both very good, I could have one 12x pair of the best glass on earth, and save some weight.
-
You're a good man. Good luck with the sale.

Carrying a spotter sucks but needed if you're not just meat huntin. As with everybody else I love my 15s but if I had to have just one go-to setup to pack around I'd go with a high end 12x50 paired with a 65 spotter, especially if you're mostly hunting elk and carp. I would love to add some EL 12x50s to my family one day.

im just saying eric church and luke bryan are the same thing. i thought you were just posting about not liking country? or was that just country thunder Other than Luke Brian sounds like Kermit the frog

I like eric church. he atleast sings about real stuff and not the predictable jacked up trucks, tan legs, tailgates bullcrap most the other crap on the radio sings about.

hey man just fyi there was a guy on rockslide looking for some 10x42 conquests recently. good luck

I agree. Man they can get up and down the floor.

The manfrotto 290 carbon is a great all around tripod. I can stand and glass off the side of the road and it's solid. Or throw it in the pack and put on 3 or 7 miles. It is a bit heavy/bulky for true backpack hunting so I picked up a used Gitzo for that stuff. I also am a fan of the 700rc2 head

Dude, do it. I impulse bought some used last year from another site and it was the best thousand bucks I've spent. The glass is spectacular and the build quality is top shelf.
-
cant speak for binos, but I have sent a scope back for repair. Power adjustment knob was froze. It took them a month or so but it came back fixed up and clean. Charged me zero dollars.

I think the words knowingly and any substance would get ya.

The Dinky Deer Thread - Let's see the SMALLEST one you've got???
Hatchet Jack replied to mattys281's topic in The Campfire
Just so happens that my 2016 deer is my smallest. It is my first coues deer and is by far my most rewarding deer ever. I Moved to az in 2014 and these things intrigue the heck out of me. I went solo on a leftover tag and it took me till day 5 to get it done. To get to where I was seeing deer I was having to hike hour and a half in some nasty rocky thorny crap. It was a great experience including some close encounters with an angry sow with 2 cubs and a rattlesnake in a rockslide. I was able to get the kill shot on video thru my 15s. His skull will always have a place on my mantle because of the great memories and work associated with that hunt. I am convinced that any size coues is a trophy. -
cool buck. never seen em with the bottom jaw left on.

2017 buck, now the wait begins
Hatchet Jack replied to huntlines's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
you bow hunters amaze me, I cant even kill a blind 3-legged javelina with my bow. what a neat old buck -
Dang good deal. I paid 275 last year for a used one and it's been well worth it.

I just added a Kowa 66 to my pack. Between tripod, spotter, 10x, & 15x it's about 13 lbs but I wouldn't want to leave any of them at home. Each serves its own important purpose.

Seems like it's pick your poison. I did the 10x 15x last year and I still found myself wanting a spotter more than a handful of times. I even left the 10x in the truck one day to save weight and I missed having them. I've never packed 12x but I imagine the drawbacks would be trying to handhold for quick scans or when you're glassing longer range and need the extra 3x. But it would sure be nice to only buy and pack one set binos. I have heard a few guys say they gave up the 15x for EL 12 and were happy. As for me I'm going 10x 15x and 66 spotter this year. I better hit the gym.

I spent a good half hour looking through the Maven 15x56 at their headquarters in Lander. The glass seems pretty good but the eye pieces suck so bad that I did not enjoy looking through them. They are bulky and did not fit my face at all, which doesn't really sound like a big deal but they were just weird to me and hard to get settled into like you do with a high end binocular. The 45mm series is built differently and I liked those, though I didn't have anything to do a side by side comparison. I think their bread and butter will be appealing to those guys who like the customization aspect of their product.

I have compared euros and the pre hd swaro 15 side by side and in all honesty would take the euros for overall view. My buddy said the same and he owns the swaros. I think where the EL really shine is the edge clarity. Nothing compares. I have heard of quite a few guys giving up 10s and 15s and just using the 12 EL. I've thought about it but I don't think I could give up my euro 15s yet.

Stepped Away From the Dark Side
Hatchet Jack replied to creed_az_88's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
It seems like there are guys who just know how to get it done no matter what, whether themselves or helping somebody. You always have awesome reports. Very well done.
