As best as I can tell, the Whitetails are rubbing and pushing each other around, but not rutting. This is on both 30B and 36C. The mule deer are a different story! Saw a mule buck wandering around aimlessly and it was obvious he was not in his right mind. Also found evidence of a tremendous fight by the torn up ground, and the prints were mule sized.

I am more than stoked!!! I finally have a Dec. late hunt tag in my hands! I have dreamed of this! The only problem is, I have never set foot in the unit. Actually have never even been in that part of Arizona. It's not that far away for me either (Tucson). So I hav been staring at maps and have several areas I wonder about. I want to backpack in and then set up a bivi camp. The elkhorn ranch area looks interesting, but the best I can glean is that it gets hit hard? I wonder if anybody could get me started in the right direction? I hope to do a scouting trip in a couple of weeks. PM's etc are welcomed! Boy there's a lot of country out there!!!!

Well, I can't believe what I saw when I pulled a camera the other day. What do you guys think he will score?

Out of curiosity... I am thinking about the December hunt. A biologist said once "hope it is really cold". So one question is, what is "really cold"? I know the bucks will simply be on the move come the beginning of the rut. What do the does do when it gets really cold? Will they be more out in the open "sunning" themselves, or do they really not care since they have a fur coat? One reason I am really curious about this is, I know that some deer stay in the flats most of the year, so I am wondering if they would move out of the mesquite flats in order to get warm in the sun? Anyone have any experience or ideas?

^^^^^ That is exceptional information!!!!!! Thank you for sharing!!! I have never heard or though of these things, but it all makes sense to me!!!!!

Thank you 200! I did have several days to scout, but even with that I didn't get to see half of the locations I wanted to. I like to have several options. Out of curiosity, has anyone whacked a big one in this unit this year?

Does anybody have any bad experiences to share with cartel run-ins etc...? Yes, it does worry me. Scare me to the point of not hunting, no. I would be glad to hear of what to avoid and what to look out for while in the field! My Bivy setup is very low visibility, and yet I know anyone really looking with optics can pick things up. I wonder if I am out of the way and not really a threat if I would be bothered... Just thinking out loud.

Yes, that makes me very excited!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!! Would you mind sharing what type of topography and vegetation you found them in?

Just curious what you all have found to be the best way to keep your rangefinder easily accessible? I see some slings as well as harness systems that combine with binoculars, but wonder what you've found best through experience?

Ok, so I have done some yote calling with mixed success. A little while ago I got a lion photo on a game camera, and it got me to wondering... Is there anyway to target a cat by using certain calls or...? I hope this doesn't seem too stupid of a question, but I just wonder if anyone with more experience than me has some thoughts.

Wow! This is some really really really good stuff!!!!! Thank you for sharing! This is really helpful!!! Harvesting a lion has always been a dream! To higher a guide not an option. When I got the photo on the game camera, I started really dreaming! I don't expect this to be easy by any means, but I really appreciate these helpful tips from you guys that know! It will help me tip the odds a little more my direction! Thank you!!!!

That never crossed my mind! Thank you very much! Somehow YouTube doesn't come to my mind very often either, and I might have to do a little looking there. Many thanks!!!!!!

Hi Ed, Thanks for making us aware of such a great product!!! I have been fooling around with the free version and have several questions about water. The springs you show, is that USGS data? Also, do you have water catchments marked, or is such a thing available on the paid version? As soon as I know if I've drawn a tag, I will be very interested in a printed map!!!! Many thanks again!!!! -
