lets talk effective distance for caliber/bullet weight
Jnj13 replied to Tac's topic in Long Range Shooting
Thx Lance. Good info! I used his ballistics 2629 .789 300 and my 6.5 CM round still is flatter out to 1100 but not faster. Appreciate the education. -
Like new. Used this month to sight in. Paid $60. For sale $45. Tucson great shape. 1 bolt slightly bent from recoils. Does not affect sled at all

6.5CM or 338 lapua? Quite a difference. There are people all over youtube shooting steel plates with a 6.5CM at a mile. I shoot that round and at 1320 yards would have over 650" of drop. More MOA than my scope can handle. I'm sure the 338 magnum can shoot that distance. It's a cannon! In fact the 338 is the caliber Chris Kyle used on his 2100 yard longest confirmed kill. I suspect the 338 drop would be double that of the 6.5CM though. So it's on the scope. The CM is flatter and faster. -
The day is upon us! Let's hear the reports!

Website looks like it got an upgrade. I was able to get close this weekend but couldn’t seal the deal. Southern AZ has got over 10” of monsoon rain so sitting water was not an option imo. Green as far as the eye can see and I had the entire unit to myself. Didn’t even see another truck :-) Glassed a nice 3x at first light. Got to 135 and saw he was with a little buck. Made a big move all the way around the hill to get in behind. Had him at 50 yards in an ocotillo. Next step he took was gonna let it fly. Turned out to be the small buck. %^\!?! To to be continued. -
Seems the major complaint is cost. There is a cost but I think the quality of living out weighs that cost. We built new construction 13 years ago and did a pool. My kids have had that pool their whole life. Our house was where they brought the youth group, sport teams, neighborhood kids to play. I spend about $100 a year on chemicals. Put a new $1000 pump on a few years back. Paid a tile guy $250 to clean the tiles once. Other than that - nothing. Do the chemistry right the first time, stay on it, and your water will be fine. It’s just too hot in AZ to not have a pool. I’d avoid a budget build, expect to spend some money and only recoup 25% of that in resell value but enjoy the major upgrade in quality of life. Just my $0.02

Not trying to talk you out of anything but last summer I saw a similar small (tiny) jon boat go under in less than a minute while he was trying to get off the lake on a windy day. We helped recover and he was fine but something to consider with your 7 year old.

with a 6" lift I think you're stuck w 35's. IMO 33's would look ok but not ideal. I run http://www.falkentire.com/tires/light-truck-suv-cuv-tires/wildpeak/t3w-tire 285's (32.8") SL rated and they only weigh 50 pounds each (why I tried them) compared to 80 pound nitto 35's for example. If that's an option.

Rage 2 blade chisel mechanical- what happened?
Jnj13 replied to Jnj13's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
I'm going to try Swhacker this fall. Front deploying vs rear deploying. Should get more penetration before they open and if they don't open at all they still cut 1" Anybody have a bad experience with them? -
Rage 2 blade chisel mechanical- what happened?
Jnj13 replied to Jnj13's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
That was the most ridiculous video I have ever watched. I am now dumber for watching it. Dumber? is that possible? you're the "i can kill a deer in seconds with a welded shut broadhead" right? He has video of him shooting a deer and the rage not opening. Thanks for contributing to the conversation though. tuff crowd -

Rage 2 blade chisel mechanical- what happened?
Jnj13 replied to Jnj13's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
Found a good video with example of shot etc w the Rage. Seems this guy had the same issue. May have opened but blades got hung up on bone. His example is at 2:00 mark and more through video. I'm pretty sure this is what happened. Zero blood on my recovered broadhead that I found 1 canyon over from the shot and 1 blade bent and still in the forward placement. Who knows. I agree with what everyone says. Better placement=dead deer but they move and we are not perfect. I think a fixed blade would have cut more but who knows. -

Ha- I was expecting that. I didn't ask for a refund. Just wanted to know if Feradyne thought the broad head expanded or failed? From the pic and description the rep sounded like failure was what they were leaning towards and offered me a refund if I mailed it in. Done. You can make your own decisions about buying Rage going forward. -

I heard all those sounds. Update on Rage. I emailed them and they are at least refunding the $40. Sounded like a known issue if you ask me. -

@azhamill I never recovered the arrow. Would have liked to see that too. The Rage came highly recommended and I watched all the kill shots and thought it would do the job. @wildwoody yes dessert troll. Would have been a personal best. 150" class I would guess. Tuff SOB for sure. -

Amazing. I would think at 35 any broadhead could handle a scapula of a deer. Ive seen videos of them going thru 50 gallon steel drums. Gonna take a minute to get over this one. -
Agree, very tuff! spent a few mornings and several miles on fresh sign and never saw a single pig. Must be moving at dark.

My son used a PSE Stinger for a few years. Very adjustable. I've seen them at Sportsmans for $300.
