This is really weird. I looked at the statistics for that area, and here is one line: Unit Hunt Type Date Permits Authorized 1st and 2nd Choice % Draw Odds 2014 Hunt Success 5A (ST) Antlerless 10/16-10/22 15 18 100 55 They say ST= East Sunset/West Sunset/Meteor Crater/Twin Arrows/Two Guns/Grapevine. Now there is an identical line below which has the same dates, but (ST) Hopi...and no Hunt Success given. I wonder if one is for the non Hopi hunters and the other is for the Hopi hunters. And what areais the "Twin Arrows/Two Guns/Grapevine"? I thought Twin Arrows was in 5B.

Yeah, I didn't know it was E/W Sunset, because the leftover tag notice didn't say that--it simply said 5A Hopi. I guess I should have noted it was a rifle hunt. No biggie! At least you're going hunting. Good luck on the hunt. Wish I had that tag! Thanks, I look at this way: I'll get to explore a new area of the the great state of AZ--and I'll be hunting elk (maybe not killing), but hunting, none the less!

Thanks, Devil Diver. I will do that. You don't happen to remember if you can bring ATVs (or would they even be helpful)? Hey, I visited your website-nice!

There is no unit description. Simply "Hopi hunt see hunt regulations." I saw a 5, and thought that was unit 5, but it was my permit number. Can't believe they didn't even put the unit number on the tag.

Thanks, Devil Diver. How did you find out where we have to camp? And if you wanted to hunt the East area, do you still have to camp in the West?

I called G&F...and you are correct. It is "East Sunset and West Sunset Hunt Area in Unit 5A - That portion of Unit 5A north of the Coconino National Forest boundary., Elk occur in low numbers in these nontraditional areas. Hunt success may be very low to no success."

Here's the weird thing: the hunt I applied for (I believe said 5A), but the tag doesn't have any unit on it. I thought it said 5, but that was my permit number (no. 5). Then I looked for the hunt number, 3808, in the regs, and there isn't a 3808. Now I'm really confused.

Wow! I thought it was only on the Hopi res! Now I'm really ecstatic! My hunting buddy won't believe me.

Thanks, I guessed that, but I thought I'd see either 5A or 5B on the tag, and it would be on one of the ranches in that area. Do we call and they tell us where to hunt? The regulations are pretty silent about the nuts and bolts of these hunts.
