https://bosskibuilt.com/products/800-aluminum-trailer This is an outstanding trailer that works perfectly behind a quad for packing in/out all of your hunting/camping gear into those remote locations. The unit is used and in great shape with new tires. Price is firm at $1,200 and you must pick up at my Prescott Valley location (Does not include gas can or storage bins in photos) These are almost NEVER found for sale on the used market and they are currently selling for $2,250 brand new IF YOU CAN FIND ONE! If interested, be sure to include your name and number or I will NOT respond. NOTE: This is listed on other sites and subject to prior sale.....

Been eyeballing these little beauties for years but was held back buying one due to the $1,500 retail price....made by BOSSKI in Caldwell, Idaho.....they make a tandem axle version (much bigger) and a couple of utility open dump bed designs as well for hauling, etc. Here's a link to their products: Bosski Built One popped up locally for $300 on FaceBook and I was fortunate enough to be the first to respond. The unit was built in the late 90's but other than needing a fresh set of tires and a gas shock support for the lid it's in great shape!! Decided to upgrade to a 4-ply tire instead of going with the stock 2-ply.....since I hunt/camp in rough areas and sharp rocks are brutal on tires. Would have gone with more ply's but the 25x12x9 size limits what's available. The unit can handle up to 800 pounds of gear and weighs in at 215 pounds empty. Overall length is just at 7' from the tongue to back of trailer and the overall length hooked to the quad is just at 14' Biggest challenge is coming up with a way to secure the cargo/gear to keep it from bouncing around. Will try different size bins but do not want to drill holes for tie-downs because the unit is pretty much water tight and I don't want to compromise that. Look forward to getting out and seeing how it does camping/hunting as spring weather approaches. -

19A - Drew the bull tag this time around.........November 30th opener
THREEDFLYER posted a topic in Elk Hunting
2nd year living in AZ and drew my 2nd tag for 19A.......cow last year, bull this time around. I realize 19A is not a prime elk unit, but it's in my back yard......actually it is my back yard. The only shot I had last year was a bull last year and of course that's because I had the cow tag. The herd is small and I spent most of my time on or close to the Mingus range. Saw a group of 12 elk together and a few single animals last year. Not an easy hunt but still nice to get out in the woods. The monsoon is starting off great this season, I just hope it produces more than last year did......we desperately need the water after nearly a 10 month dry spell this past fall/winter/spring. Cheers, -

Sorry guys, here's the scoop for this year in 19A....... My buddies daughter scored a nice cow in the Cherry area in the late October hunt and they saw a nice little 3x3 bull running with the cows. They also saw a bear in the area. My bull hunt was uneventful.....in fact, did not see a single elk! Did see a photo of a very nice 340 class bull that was shot in 19A by another friend who had the bull tag. That bull was a toad and I was amazed to hear of a bull that size was in 19A. -

THREEDFLYER posted a topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Good morning all, Although I am not a Coues Deer hunter (yet) I have a couple of out of state friends who were fortunate enough to draw a tag for the Dec hunt in 24B. However, they have never hunted Couse deer in AZ and know nothing about 24B. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I can also have them contact you directly if you are willing to share. You can email me at tomgraham01@msn.com and I can put you in touch. They will check out this forum but they have not registered here yet. Thanks in advance, -

My go to has been my Browning A-Bolt in 30-06 and I will probably stick with it. However, I will most likely add a rifle in .300 WSM in the future. Thanks for all the suggestions and opinions! -

These guys are avid hunters in Idaho and own a taxidermy business. They have been asking about the habits and patterns of the Coues Deer since they typically hunt Mule deer. I have told them that excellent and powerfull optics are a must as is patience. One question is if the Coues Deer migrate like the mule deer do or are they territorial? Do they tend to stay in a specific elevation throughout the year?? Do the bucks hang out at higher elevations in pre-rut or stay among the does? -

I'll be hunting the OTC archery elk tag in Idaho late Sept which is an ANY ELK tag.....then I'll get serious about 19A and do a bit more scouting than last year. I feel like I am starting to get to know the area a bit and have a good idea of at least 3 areas that might be good choices for opening day. -

Daniel, thanks, I will be in touch as the hunt draws closer. My co-worker and his buddy drew two tags in 2016 and they both shot bulls that were less than 50 yards apart just north of the Perkinsville road. They were younger animals, and it was on the last day of the hunt. -

The bull that I saw within rifle range was not far from Cherry and would have been a fairly easy shot. He was going between two springs that were about 2 miles apart. -
Thanks all for the feedback, I considered this a learning/recon season and yes, I have come away with some valuable intel. I agree that I need to get it done early in the season if I pursue the tag again in the future and hopefully I can use the knowledge gained to do it!! I concentrate my elk hunting efforts in the state of Idaho as I prefer the non-resident over-the-counter archery ANY-ELK tag and I hit it the last 2 weeks of Sept typically as the rut is gearing up. Happy Holidays and good luck to you all and keep your powder dry!

19A is the unit I live in and is literally my back yard.....however being fairly new to Arizona I have not had time to give it much attention. Will be an interesting hunt being so darn dry and warm, but going to find a high spot and let my bino's do the walking. Water is getting scarce in the tanks that is for sure! I chased a nice muley buck out of a tank last weekend when scouting. Have heard that a few have tagged out on this weeks late bull hunt. This is my 1st AZ elk tag and I am not well educated on the unit, but will take the advise of those who have been there and see what comes of it. Stay tuned!

Season wrap up...... Went out the Saturday before end of season and found an army of deer bowhunters in the woods. Apparently AZ Game and Fish decided to start the archery deer season on the 15th when the cow rifle season ran until the 17th.....HUH???? No idea who thought this was a good idea??? Anyway, I ended up spotting a herd of 10 elk in Coyote Canyon the morning of Saturday Dec. 16th at a range of 1,300 yards from the rim and could not close the gap. The archery guys were in there before light and had pushed them down into the canyon.....so I gave up on the area by late morning. I relocated for the evening hunt back down to the Goat Peak area and discovered a high traffic area used by all types of game in a saddle which I decided to sit on until dark. I parked at the bottom of the hill which was on a jeep trail off the main road making it obvious that someone was hunting that spot. Just about a 1/2 hour before dark a crew of archery deer hunters trudged up the jeep trail right into the saddle I was sitting on. Two thoughts.....again, why the season overlap? And second what part of a guy being parked on a jeep trail was so hard to understand by these archery guys??? Oh well, I have to remind myself that I am hunting on public land and apparently not all of the public knows about hunter etiquette.....

Got into my hunting spot this AM only to find a camp with at least 10 tents set up right in the middle of the game trail leading to the spring........not a good surprise!! Turns out it was a group with the Arizona Conservation Corps who are working the area all this week......REALLY! One of the hazards of hunting public land. Tom

Saw one young bull today......no cows Took a cruise mid day and glassed up a few guys WAY DOWN in a valley cutting up a cow.....one heck of a pack out for sure, but at least it's meat in the freezer!

UPDATE: Did some glassing in three areas at the north end of 19A including near St. Matthews Mtn, Robert Lee tank and another tank between Robert Lee and the Verde. Saw a few deer but no elk, this was on Friday. Today I hit the area near Powell Springs Campground near Cherry. Did not see deer or Elk but I did see a considerable amount of tracks.....but given the dry conditions I have no idea when they could have been made. Saw NO fresh droppings in any area I checked out so far. Back out there again tomorrow!

Was getting tired of the poor limited space and complicated set-up of my dome tents and after reading some reviews and watching a few videos I decided to bite the bullet and spend the $650 on one of the Kodiak Canvas Deluxe Flex Bow 10X14 tents. I left my home in Prescott Valley, AZ on September 20th and began the 1,050 mile journey from my home to my elk hunting spot in Idaho. The weather was clear when I arrived and mild temperatures and I set up the tent in under 30 minutes easily by myself. The set-up is super easy, but if you invest in one, be sure to set it up at least once prior to heading out to camp just to get familiar with the process. Plus, the manufacturer recommends that you set it up and spray it down with water to "swell" up the seam threads to season the canvas a bit. The set-up process involves laying out the ground tarp (included) and then spreading out the tent. Then you stack down all the metal loops all the way around the tent base, there are several and the metal stakes are heavy duty. Next you install the roof poles and center ridge poles. Then you install the two vertical end posts, one end at a time to erect the tent. Last, you set up the attached awning with two extension polls and two guy lines. And you are DONE! **NOTE** This tent is held down only by the metal stakes that secure the bottom of the tent to the ground. It's important that you set all your stakes securely in the ground to avoid issues with the wind. I had NO problems with wind on my trip, the tent stayed put and the canvas remained tight. As you can see in the photo, I have my Cabelas XL cot and my Butler Bag bedroll set up at one end and my cooking station at the other. Way more room than needed for one guy and two guys with cots and all the gear would still have lots of room. Three guys on cots would get a bit cramped but can be done....but some of the gear would need to stay in the truck. So, for the weather part.......the first couple of nights the temps plunged down into the upper teens at night and we had some light snow. I brought along a Little Buddy propane heater and was glad I did! I only ran the heater when getting dressed or messing around in the tent, but not while sleeping and I cracked the vents a little for fresh air. I was really impressed with how fast the tent warmed up and how well it retained the heat while the heater was turned on. Of course it cooled off fast when it was off. Overall I am VERY pleased with the tent and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a durable/sturdy tent that has lots of room and will last for years to come. Kodiak Canvas 10x14 Tent Review - 2017
THREEDFLYER replied to THREEDFLYER's topic in Other Hunting Gear
That's a good idea, is it canvas or cloth? I have a heavy duty vinyl tarp I put down underneath the tent. I put a vinyl tarp under the tent and the cloth painter tarp inside. My vinyl tarp is 1 foot larger all the way around so mud will not splatter on the sides during a rain storm.Just curious how you stake down the tent if your tarp is wider then the the tent. Do you put stakes through the tarp? The tarp is only slightly larger than the footprint of the tent.....and the stake loops are long enough to avoid puncturing the tarp. You do have to be careful NOT to hit the walls of the tent while driving in the stakes or you will put holes in the canvas! -

In the photos above it looks like you are cooking in the tent. Do you have any issues doing so (excessive smoke, odors, etc.)? No issues cooking in the tent, but I do open the windows a bit to allow fresh air to come in while cooking. I also used my propane Little Buddy heaters but again, windows were opened a bit. -
Kodiak Canvas 10x14 Tent Review - 2017

I purchased my tent from Competitive Edge and got free shipping. If I recall correctly I paid $650 for this Deluxe version and that included a FREE heavy duty ground tarp to put under it. The floor is amazingly heavy duty, kind of reminds me of the material used on some high quality inflatable boats. As for keeping the floor clean, I would spread out a moving blanket on the inside when I was running around inside without shoes/boots on. But the floor cleans up very easily if it does get dirty.
