Anyone know the family washed away in Tonto Basin?
Ohthatguy replied to PRDATR's topic in The Campfire
There is a news clip showing it get pulled out by a dozer if it's important. https://www.12news.com/article/news/local/arizona/tonto-basin-children-found/75-2a7bb5e2-41a9-4a78-ba28-6b9cd73e3da3 -

CBE Tek Hunter Pro, 5 pin w/ .010 pins. EVERYTHING!!!! The pins don't cover the entire target. Pins to 60 and slide to 120 or whatever... Just have to really watch the pins if you are in the thick stuff or crawling around. The Engage Hybrid with blade pins looks interesting. (I'm afraid to put my hands on one as I really don't need a new sight)

Why are you apologizing??? It's a cool buck and if you decide to go after him and are able to bag him, please let us know.

4 Peaks, NF143, is only 5 miles further up 87 and maybe 10 from Butcher Jones if you go that way. If you are taking younger kids in, I would stay away from the BJones area. Too much drama there but the piggies are around if you want to deal with the crowds and vehicles. There are some roads/trails that you can take from the parking lot all the way to the lake if you really want to get that close to the lake. Access # 3 & 4- Butcher Jones Rec. Site: Note: There is no parking of OHV trailers or riding in the recreation sites. https://www.azgfd.com/hunting/units/mesa/22/ You can also try the “Rolls Area” north of Saguaro Lake. Take Forest Service (FS) Road 143 and hunt the lower elevations towards Saguaro Lake and the Cane Springs area. Several large fires have run through this area. Concentrate on hunting the edges of the unburned vegetation. Javelina may utilize the edges of the burned area for new green growth. Continuing north up Highway 87, you can hunt off the Four Peaks Road, Ballentine Trail Area, and just off Highway 87 on both sides. All these areas offer good lower Sonoran desert Javelina hunting.

if you find fresh tracks immediately after a rain, take the "you are within a half mile of them" idea with a grain of salt. I followed a pair of tracks that were less than an hour old for over 2 miles on the flats and never found them. I still suggest doing it but don't expect them to always be right there. It is so fun though! Lots of good information here if you haven't already been there. http://www.javelinahunter.com/

And yet here you are....

Buffalo, strip deer, lion and a bull elk in a matter of months would be utterly mind boggling... Hope it all comes together for you.

Dude!!!! No cliffhangers allowed. When you say it's epic, I'm tending to believe you. So what? Did you shoot a cow in the face from the wrong unit while under the powerlines? 400" 3 antlered bull? Hope it's on the other end of the epic spectrum from the strip hunt.

If you move it to the "Pay it Forward" section, I call dibs. Considering the plates, it's gotta be free!!!!!!!!!

I agree that my scenario is apples/oranges re the OP so my apologies for going off on a tangent. My point was that according to GnF, "TAKE" includes pursuing as well as shooting, hunting and killing. So if you are skirting the elk on the Res, isn't that by definition pursuing and also a violation? Three are several sections that one could use to make the argument for either side but I only wanted to kick this horse, not try and resuscitate it. FWIW, I don't see a problem with shooting from 1 unit into the other. I find it interesting that there is no definition of hunting in the GnF regs or the A.R.S.. It is however used in the definition of "Take".. ARS 17-303. Taking or driving wildlife from closed areas It is unlawful for any person, except by commission order, to enter upon a game refuge or other area closed to hunting, trapping or fishing and take, drive or attempt to drive wildlife from such areas. (Doesn't say you can't shoot from a closed area into another one)

Several units use rivers as boundaries and LOTS of hunters regularly shoot 500-1000 yards across these same canyons. Personally I'd rather have people shooting at the side of a canyon than a deer on the flats in 44. If you miss the canyon shot, your going to hit right next to him. If you miss in 44, your bullet may have a long way to go before coming down. And if you are on the buck, someone else may be stalking it too.

You aren't paying for the kindness. You're paying them to leave.

Sounds like you can have 4 tags max. 2 OTC non-permit and 2 permit tags with different hunt #'s. (Of which 1 must be drawn) R12-4-114 Issuance of Nonpermit-tags and Hunt Permit-tags 2. An applicant shall not obtain nonpermit-tags in excess of the bag limit established by Commission Order when it established the season for which the nonpermit- tags are valid. D. A person may purchase hunt permit-tags equal to the bag Limit for a genus.

North end is blocked to the public. There is a forest service building or something south of the burm that they can access through a locked gate.

So is sitting in Unit 10 on the Bo, watching a herd of elk on the Res that you know will hop the fence into the unit considered hunting on the Res? To add to the mix, if you are glassing them on the Res, waiting for hours and relocating based on their movements, is that considered "chase"?

Just my recollection but you're point is a very good one. Could be mistaken and thinking of another fire. -

Inciweb currently says cause unknown but I thought sparks from chains were suspected early on.
