    Late hunt question

I was out last Saturday for the rifle hunt and was watching a fork chase a couple of does around for a few hours. I'm heading back out Thursday to finish out the hunt. My question is, should i go back to where I saw the fork chasing does?

That's the thing, you just never know unless you see it first hand. Anything can happen in the field especially this time of year

    Late hunt question

I'm in 36c as well. There are so many great spots that hold deer. I'll be out there solo unless a buddy shows up. Stop by if you see a ranger tremor. I'll be down near the southern portion

This drought sucks! I don't think I've ever seen it so dry but at least I have plenty ground to cover.

That's awesome! I've heard the smaller bucks usually move in first. Hopefully that giant coues buck will show up on Thursday.

Yeah i figured it's still a little early for the rut. First time hunting the late season. I know some greats spots but the hill i was watching the fork on, is literally a few hundred yards from where I camp 🤣

    Shed hunting Arizona

Thanks man! My dad and I found 1 each about a 100 yards apart in 2 separate trips about a year and a half apart. When ever I get out to my dads house, I will have to take some pictures of some of the mule deer sheds he has found in that unit since the early 80s. There are some ginormous mule deer in that unit. Thanks for the information and I really appreciate it. I'll get out this weekend and try my luck. Will definitely keep you informed on how this trip goes. Thanks again and have a good one.

    Shed hunting Arizona

Hey guys! I love the fact of getting out and exploring new areas. I have always shed hunt in unit 27 for mule deer and coues shed. I am just curious to how far the elk migrate south in that unit, do too all the snow they've had in the higher elevations this winter. I have never found an elk shed but am willing try my luck this weekend.

    Shed hunting Arizona

Right on! Guess I haven't been that lucky to find one yet. This year has been great especially with all the rain and snow they've had up there compared to the last few years.

GreyGhost85 It is a coues set, but this is the only other picture I have at the moment. The picture really doesn't do justice on the size of this set. I will take some photos tomorrow when I get a chance.

  23. Basically it all started Thursday afternoon. I didn't have time to scout this year but I have been in the same area the last four years. I knew the bucks were in there as I have seen them everytime I am out there. I just have never been able to connect. This year it actually paid off. My dad and I hiked in 2.5 miles to my glassing point and gained over 1500ft in elevation. Within the first 3 hours I had only spotted a couple of does. I decided to change directions and look towards the south. I'd say within about 5 minutes of changing directions I noticed a batchelor herd or 3 to 4 bucks. I immediately noticed this nice 3x3 grazing in the middle of the open. I dialed him in at 547 yards. I decided to grab my rifle, thinking " if I wait too long, I might miss out on this opportunity". I had my cross hair perfectly aligned up and had this intense adrenaline rush of buck fever. I missed the first shot and shot high. I got my binos back on that area and noticed the buck was standing in the same position. I got my scope back on him and decided to let another one fly. As soon as I was able to control my rifle, I looked back at the buck and saw that he went down. It was a perfect shot placement. My dad and I gathered our gear and headed towards my deer. It took us about an hour to get to where I shot it. We got to the spot and noticed a nice blood trail. We walked about 15 to 20 yards down from where I seen the blood and noticed the deer up in some heavy vegetation. I immediately knew he was dead but made sure as I poked him to see if he'd move. It took my dad and I just a little over 3 hours to get this deer back to camp. To be able to have my dad right there with me to witness me shoot my first deer was priceless. These are the moments I will always cherish forever! Can't wait for next year to keep the memory alive.
