I have recently purchased a scope level and set it up per reccomended specs hung a piece of string with a weight and set level to crosshair being inline with the string. When i go and shoot my rifle i now find that i have to torque the rifle to get the level to center and the butt is not comfortable in the pocket of my shoulder. I would like to rotate the scope in the rings to get buttstock in my shoulder and be comfortable. Will this effect accuracy more or is being comfortable more important? I seem to shoot it well out to 700 yards without paying attention to canting but if i have to torque the rifle it seems accuracy would suffer.

Big Boquillas Ranch Threat or Leverage or Both!
Tac replied to SirRoyal's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
If game and fish owns the animals as they say they do then no hunting licenses for private ranches? What would everyone think of that? Then the ranches would get no benefit and no one would be upset that only the rich could hunt them. -
Tried Imr 4831 and 265 lrx not so good. Went to us869 and 265 lrx and shot 1/2 moa. I,m happy now! I fixed me and lightened up on holding the gun and it started going well. I must have been torquing the gun.

Do your best to find a local place to support and pay a little more to keep a little more in your local economy. I have used this philosophy for many years and I understand I pay more for products but if I can get some business from them in my place of business/ employment it is paid back and then some. Before you know it it will all be china junk like Walmart that lets you down when you need it most.

I have done this the last two years with my father at my cousins family farm it is a blast.

Less than 1/2 inch off center is negligible at 1000 seems like way more human error involved make it comfy and scope plum shoot it and see what happens

I bought instead of build a Sako 85 LRH in 338 Lapua supposed to be the best out of the box brand and it shoots well. about$2500 I shot 1/2 pound tanerite at 320 last weekend and if I did my job it was a first shot hit. The half pound tannerite is about a 2"x2" target so it is sub moa. The action is very smooth on it. The only drawback I see is proprietary scope mounts. If I was to do another one i would build it out of some 700 rem action and let the gunsmith do his work. My other gun is a BDL rem 700 in 270 and it is a great gun.

not canting the scope I'm wanting to cant the gun and level the scope. how will that effect overall performance?i understand if you hold the crosshairs canted in the scope but what if the scope is straight and the rifle is canted. so basically moving the scope to the side but keeping it vertical

I went out yesterday to verify my gun zero and practice shooting long range with my isnipe program. My zero is at 200 yards and average speed of reloads is 2832 shooting barnes 265 lrx .338 lapua. put this into the i snipe and look for output and it call for 2.34mil adjustment and i shoot high back of .4 mil and it hits. what would be the reccomended way to correct the program? i also shot at 400 yards and program called for 1.1 mil and actual shooting was .8 mil.

I put in the BC from Barnes I will adjust velocity seems to be logical answer

the scope height was 2.0 the wind and pressure was set from the local wheather station. shooting due north and wind approx 7mph from the east but gusting. i was more interested in high adjustment high enough to cause a miss i beilieve. i had a 5 degree angle to target that was also accounted for
-
i was shooting at 575 yards for .4 mil adjustment

I always thought there was hunting bullets and they work well and there is target bullet that go through and not expand as well.

I carry a orange ball cap but usually it is in my bag. I wear it when im working with my partner to signal and let each other know where we are.

I have often thought the same thing I like a cargo pant with lots of pockets. I use basspro real tree camo and like it. As with all premium stuff it seems to perform better just like high end binos but you have to want that feature and pay for it. Lots of old guys used flannel and were successful.

one of two guns .338 LM or a .270 win

I would buy the large one it is able to run just one side on low and if it is really cold you can crank it to med or high and have the extra power. Had dec cow elk hunt south of flagstaff a few years ago and -18f a couple days and that big heater on high would warm the 28 foot travel trailer in about 5 minutes. The small heater would but took alot longer. I reccomend the hose kit and a large bottle as well. If you get the big buddy it also has a fan to increase the output.
