COAL and OAL question 30-30
bowhunter-tw replied to bowhunter-tw's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
So your cartridge length is really just controlled by case OAL and where the cannalure aligns correctly for crimping and you just have to make sure that the COAL is not greater than max. That makes sense. Looks like im going to need to buy a trimmer now. one other question is when you measure your cases do you try and center your calipers on the case or do you measure from an outer edge? I tend to get measurements that vary by about .005 on the same case based on how the case is in the calipers, kind of difficult to make sure the case is squared up -

How to organize a first time reloading bench??
bowhunter-tw posted a topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I am just about done building my bench, my space constraints allowed a 24”x 48” bench top. How would you go about mounting your presses and powder measuring station to best flow? I have an RCBS rock chucker supreme and a partner press to mount and an rcbs powder measurer stand to mount -

Yes the c clamps are meant to be temporary while positioning, I cant definitely see how things will be changed as I go and the seemingly never ending list of tools I could acquire... -
How to organize a first time reloading bench??
bowhunter-tw replied to bowhunter-tw's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Just sized and primed my first 50 30-30 cases. Went pretty smoothly. I still need to get case trays, some way of getting the powder into the shells (assuming a funnel?) im not completely sure how to properly utilize the powder measurer? Do you drop powder straight from it into the case? Or from it into the measuring cup then the case? -

Sorry for sideways pictures, not sure how to format; think this will suffice? Or does it need further re-enforcement? 2x4 screw and glued to underneath, 3/4 plywood on top not secured yet -

I just got my first lever gun recently! Marlin 336 in 30-30 1995 manufacture date, 1 year older than me! Now looking to add a 22 lever action to the collection! -
This is not my operation, but Butch helped me out with some reloading components I couldn't find and spent about an hour answering a bunch of my new to reloading questions. Very nice guy. He runs a very small business of cleaning and polishing brass and nickel cases for reloading. He sells the once fired cases for what seemed to be very reasonable prices (for example 6¢/rnd for 9mm and 16¢/rnd for 223). I believe all the cases are sized to spec, chamfered, and de-burred also. Below is a link to his ad, you will have to call him for more details and pricing. If anybody is looking for brass or knows people looking, his brass looked very well processed. Just thought I’d share on here to help him get some more business https://phoenix.craigslist.org/wvl/spo/d/sun-city-west-reloading/7198828146.html

My roommate drew a 22 mule deer rifle tag for end of oct. The initial plan when we put in was I would help him as he has never hunted before and I’ve done a fair bit of hunting. I broke my ankle right about 2 months ago when we were going to start scouting. We have been out a few times but about all I can do is glass from the truck. So far I have just been finding whitetail. I was looking at the map and realized that the 22 border extends east of 87 further north than I though and includes an area around Gisela, has anyone hunted back in that area and seen mule deer? From the highway it looks like the right terrain. We plan to get out there and glass but season approaches quickly..

Anybody ever make a leather rifle sling with some sort of quick adjust length? Maybe similar to the montana rifle sling? I am trying to figure out how to tie a slip knot that will hold when you want it to.

DIY Leather rifle sling?
bowhunter-tw replied to bowhunter-tw's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Ordered some leather, will post when sling is done. I found a source to learn how to tie the “knot” I was looking for. -
I read/watched you can clean brass with dish soap, hot water, salt, and vinegar. Did exactly what they showed for just under 30 min and the brass looks like this.... is this brass un-useable now?

I am considering starting to reload, I started shooting a little more and want to be able to put together my own rounds for hunting and shooting. Shooting 308, 223, wanting to add a 243 and 300 to the collection. Im thinking a redding t7 turret press. Any other suggestions or reasons why I should do a single stage, probably not going to spend the money on a progressive

Getting into Reloading
bowhunter-tw replied to bowhunter-tw's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
So I picked up some manuals, but they are pretty old, does the date of the manual matter? Its the third edition hornady, 3rd barnes, speer 14, lyman 47th and 49th. Is the load info in these relevant or do I really need to get the latest additions? -
