I ended up buying a trimmer and headspace gauge (among MANY other tools lol) so am trimming to keep in spec and sizing to bump the shoulders between .002-.005” depending on the rifle.

Shooting lighter bullets I could seat .005” deep and it still wouldnt touch the lands. Im guessing thats not nearly deep enough for the bullet to stay in place, so id assume there is some minimum depth youd want to hit. Sounds like it could be whatever depth feel secure

You can load light target loads with hardcast bullets out of the 30-30 also. I load 5-6grs of 700x with 150gr cast bullets, super fun soft shooting range load.

Yah Ive hunted it a bunch for coues and found mule deer during the rut hunt. Guess we wanted to try something different. Turning out to be a real challenge

Thanks! Luckily there are hunts both two weeks before and a week before my hunt, so no telling where the mule deer will be. Ive glassed up some small bucks in the hill country but havent found a good area with flats in the desert to try. Ive got two more desert spots pinned on the map to check out but after that I might be shooting a small guy.
