Jason, I don't often play tug of war with my Powerstroke but if I did I'd want the comparison to be made for the same wheel base. Notice the Standard cab Duramax compared to club cab Cummins and Crew cab Powerstroke? Big difference in traction as evidenced by the smoking rear wheels of the Ford. Not trying to yank your chain, but I haven't had to add any aftermarket improvements to my truck to be completely satisfied with its performance and I sure don't have overheating problems! Kevin

Huntnut, I'll finish that sentence! Powerstroke! Kevin

Its called the Bear fire. Burning east-north east from Bearwallow Mountain. Evacuations took place yesterday including Willow Creek and Snow lake campgrounds and area ranches. It burned over 7000 acres from noon yesterday to 7:00am this morning. Gonna have the yellow shirts spread thin! Kevin

tk, I hauled a coues buck out on my Badlands 2800 in one trip and he was about the size of an elk quarter! (front shoulder at least) I've been nothing but pleased with it. My brother prefers his 2200 over the 2800 though. I think they are both great packs, it just comes down to personal preference. Kevin

I'm in the market for a 3500-5000 watt generator. I can't afford a Honda (man they are quiet and expensive) so I'm at a loss for what to shop for. Do any of you have experience with one that is reliable? Thanks for your input! Kevin

With the track history our Dept. has, your concerns over lost or misplaced surveys are well founded; however, its about time something is done to get a grip on numbers. Do you guys realize that fewer than 10% of people who hold a license will report back? I really don't understand why someone won't return a survey, it is afterall, the only way the G&F has of estimating harvest. I support this new regulation and hope it provides enough incentive for people to report back. Hopefully the information will be put to use for the betterment of wildlife management. Kevin

Thanks for the info fellows. Dodger2, Check into what the trailers A/C requires. If you just want to run lights and charge batteries a 2000 watt would easily do that. If you will be running the A/C, microwave etc, especially at the same time you will need a larger unit depending on how many watts they need. Sorry I can't be of more help. By the way, if $4000 will get the built in generator and your wife and kids will go along, well in my book thats cheap! Kevin

I shoot a stock (other than trigger) Ruger M77 300 Win mag with 150 grain nosler partition reloads. The rifle is wood stocked and blued, just like it was the day my wife gave it to me for my graduation from graduate shcool! Its topped off with a Leupold 3-9 currently but may upgrade this year to something with a little more magnification. I carry 10X42 SLC around my neck and 15's SLC in a Badlands 2800. My most important upgrade will be to a new tripod as the one I have is not sturdy enough for the 15's. Kevin

I don't know if any of you ever dealt with the man, but I for one am glad he is gone. Gov. Richardson removed him from the Commission because of his alleged connection to the Montoya-Vigil scandal in the State Treasury office. I wonder which of Richardson's campaign supporters will get the job? Kevin

SDHNTR hit the nail on the head. I really like my leafy suit but it is useless in the brush! I would rather have the long sleeve t shirts and pants for the brushy areas I hunt. As far as the pattern goes, it is hard to beat in my opinion. Predator camo works well to though. Kevin

Actually Doug, the deadline was extended for those folks that waited until the last minute and then crashed the server! The deadline has been moved to tomorrow. As for my apps, Burro MT WT, Burro MT MD, and 23 WT. Elk, BH sheep, Ibex, speedgoats! Patiently waiting for AZ to post their applications. Good luck, Kevin

hunter4life, I'm hoping the same holds true for AZ. I don't think very many (I've seen very few) non-residents apply for the hunt that I usually draw in AZ. Its definately not a prime unit nor is it in December. We'll see here in a few months. One way or the other, I will hunt deer in AZ this year because I'll by the bow tag and drag my stick around for a few days if I don't draw. I like that option and wish NM would do the same (if we would require a bowhunter education class for anyone buying a tag). I also make use of my quail license over there since it is just a few hour drive for me. In fact, I've killed more quail in AZ in the last couple of years than I have in NM in 10! I always take my scattergun in November for those days my decrepit body needs a break from the rock piles. As a side note, the deadline for NM is tomorrow at midnight! Better get it in gear if you plan on applying! Good luck, Kevin

Casey, You should consider the Sierra 165 or 180 SBT Gameking. Either perform very well out of both my and my wifes 06. They are very accurate and drop elk or oryx well! Plus, they are exactly half as expensive as accubonds! Kevin

Keith, NM bowhunts are draw only for a specific unit. Some units you can hunt in September and January, other are either or. George Taulman's brother-in-law was our governor (Johnson). He decided to help the family out and gaurantee 12% of our tags went to outfitters. Taulman was pissin' people off way before he sued AZ. Kevin

I've got a 1997 Alpine Silverado Lite (split limb system) compound bow I need to sell. It is left handed 70 lb, 30 inch draw, 37" axle to axle set up for a finger shooter or could be converted for release with a new rest. Included is the bow, Cavalier II rest, Alpine quiver, crosshair sight, peep, limbsavers and hard case. Sorry, no arrows. The best part: The bow has brand new limbs plus the old limbs which are still functional and an extra set of T1 Cams. The bow is set up and ready to shoot. I've killed 5 elk and a mulie with this bow, but I started shooting a recurve 2 years ago and haven't shot this bow since. I'll take $150.00 plus shipping for it. Contact me here for questions or more info. Thanks, Kevin

Sounds like the start of a bad joke--a lawyer, a doctor, an insurance salesman, and several BP agents walk into a bar......... Good luck, Kevin

Legal to carry pistol during Archery only Hunts
Kevin replied to AZP&Y's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Rolkat, did you read the directive from G&F? I'm not saying it won't revert, but for now it is legal! Seems silly that they would email this info and put it on their website if they didn't want people to believe it! Straight from the AZGFD website: "Archery-only hunters can now carry a non-hunting handgun for protection The October issue of ?Hunting Highlights? reviewed the legality of carrying a handgun during an archery-only hunt. The rule at that time was that hunters participating in an archery-only hunt could not possess a firearm, even if they had a concealed weapons permit. Since that time, the Arizona Game and Fish Department has issued a directive allowing hunters participating in an archery-only hunt to carry a non-hunting handgun for personal protection and safety. As a guideline, a non-hunting handgun shall be defined as a handgun with a barrel length of 6 inches or less that does not have a scope or any type of electronic device. Handguns meeting this definition may be carried during an archery-only hunt for personal protection only. They may not be used to take any species of wildlife while participating in an archery-only hunt." Argue all you want, but I'll believe what I read from the agency in charge of enforcing this directive instead of second hand from someone who "talked to G&F". Kevin -
If you buy your components in bulk, you might save money but only if you buy locally. Hazardous shipping fees on powder and primers will kill you! Nosler Partitions, alone are around $0.40 each so it doesn't take long to get to 1.00 each shot if you have to buy brass, powder and primers. That said, I enjoy reloading, and recently my young daughters (3 & 6) have started helping me clean brass, trim cases, etc. and getting them involved is important to me and the time we have together "making shells" is priceless! Also, few guns will shoot factory ammo better than something you've tuned to your gun. I don't bother reloading for my .223 because I can buy bulk ammo cheaper than I can load it, but for my magnums, I might save a few cents each round if I consider my time free. Kevin

I did my master's research on the refuge in 94-95. It was an absolutely beautiful place and even though I spent 4 months during both summers I rarely saw illegals. I returned this past summer with my family to show the girls where Dad worked and was sick at what I saw. It is a shame that our government will allow what has happened down there. I hope they get a grip on it somehow. Kevin

Results are up! I hope you have better luck than my family:wife, dad, mom, 2 brothers, and nephew-unsuccessful. Good luck, Kevin

What kind of warranty does the Zeiss have? I know that Leupold would replace my scope if it had "black specks throughout the entire field of view! Kevin

Hunter4life, did you tag out? Vini, I'll have to wait until my escort can get me the pics! Kevin

I hunted the escorted hunt this past weekend and there was a Rhodes canyon hunt taking place at the same time. Because of me being escorted, I had already done the briefing etc so didn't have to go to the orientation. I drove up to the breifing area, stopped at the stop sign and preceded north to my hunt area which was north of the Rhodes canyon hunt area. The briefing was just ending as I pulled out. You could see the consternation of the 105 hunters as I took off. The result was what my escort and I called the "redneck 500". Guys were running to their trucks so they could catch up. We drove by 5 different groups of oryx, some of them not 50 yards from the road and everyone was so busy trying to catch me that they either didn't see them or figured if they were to small for me they were going to pass them up as well. I've not laughed as much as I did that morning in a long time! I have heard that the once in a lifetime hunts are not nearly as good as they once were, but I saw tons of oryx Saturday. However, after the initial 100 car parade and the resulting shots most of the oryx head for areas away from the road. If you are a road hunter, you best not pass up anything early the first day. If you are willing to walk a bit and glass there is no reason to not kill a nice animal. I took a 37" bull at 10:00 am. If I had held out I may have found a 40" but I'm tickled with my bull. Kevin
