I've definitely considered a #3 fluted barrel but something keeps bringing me back to the Proof Barrel. The Timney Calvin Elite was my other consideration for triggers. I am pretty sure the rifle will end up with McMillan stock, but I will probably start with the laminate stock so I can shoot it and do load development while waiting for the McMillan to be built. So many dang choices. Ultimately I want the rifle finished with scope at 7.5 lbs. Are you planning on 22 or 24" barrel for your build?

Good luck to you.

I had a chest and got tired of digging for meat. I just bought an upright this year and kept the chest too. The chest went with me to Wyoming. I used it to haul my meat home. I ran it with a generator in the back of my truck.

Just returned from Wyoming hunting with my buddy, Kevin, who lives in Casper. It was a good trip. We had his cow elk tag to fill near Cody. We each had a general deer tag near Buffalo. He had a buck and doe antelope tag and I had a couple of antelope doe tags near Casper. We hunted all over the state and had less than 2 weeks to get it all done and get the meat processed before I returned to Arizona. I took a few photos, but as always, wish I would have taken more. It is easy to forget when you are wrapped up n the moment. Here was my glassing set up which also worked well as a shooting platform when I shot my buck: The first pic is where we watched my buck bed. We waited him out for hours before he got up to feed. The second pic is me and the buck. The Creedmoor did well. The buck took 2 steps and piled up, tumbling down the hill about 10 yards. Kevin's buck. We packed his buck out 2.5 miles to the truck the day before I had to head back to Arizona. My buck wasn't so bad, had to pack mine out 1.5 miles in the dark on opening day. We had limited time to hunt the antelope. We were leaving for Cody on a Thursday morning. We had to do some last minute work on Kevin's rifle and loads on Wednesday afternoon. We went out Wednesday late afternoon and dropped his buck and my 2 doe within 40 yards of each other. We were skinning, gutting and hauling the animals to the truck until 10:00 pm, got a little sleep, then took the antelope to the processor on our way out of town to Cody for Kevin's cow elk. Only pictures of the antelope are at the processor: We were able to hunt Kevin's Elk with private property access on Carter Mountain near Cody. It was a really fun hunt. We glassed up a lot of really nice Bulls, but Kevin only had a cow tag. He settled on the 2 year old pictured below. He shot it right before dark. We got it quartered out after it was dark. The hair will stand up on the back of your neck a little bit when you think about the fact that you have an elk quarter in your pack, it is dark and you are in heavily populated grizzly country. There were 2 grizzly attacks already this season. And the final pic is just showing the fruits of my labor....or in this case, the meats:

Looked at Manners website. I didn't see that they inlet for a Model 7 on their stock builder. I will try to contact them. Chances are I will start with the thumbhole that I already have and try to lighten it up a bit. Then as I can save a little more money I will replace the stock.
-
Awesome, thanks for the info. I think that may be the way to go. 3x15-42 with lockable turret.
-
Good advice. And they will inlet for whatever my specs are?

I am going to see how I like the rifle with the laminated thumb hole after I remove some of the wood from behind the thumb hole. If the rifle is heavier than I want at that point, I will go with a McMillan. I am trying to do this on somewhat of a budget. Regarding the Zeiss Conquest, the only ones I have seen in person had a capped elevation turret, which I don't mind. But, the turret adjustment itself is not numbered and the hash marks are hardly identifiable. Do they have a different turret option that I have not seen? I like the scope a lot and think it is a lot of bang for the buck in a light weight package and will be higher quality than the Vortex.

I never had this much problem before. Can you educate me on this uniform procedures ?I use the Lyman case prep in the photo below. Only uniform primer pockets 1 time.I have RCBS case prepper but it doesn't have a primer pocket device. Can I order one that will attach to it?I am pretty sure you can. If you have the case prep shown in the picture than I am sure you can order the primer pocket uniformer also shown below. Sportsman's Warehouse probably has them in stock and the thread pattern should be the same for the Lyman or RCBS.

I like it, although I don't have much to compare to. I just started reloading about 4 months ago and have used it since I started. It does the job it was intended to do and seems to speed up the process a bit.

6.5 creedmoor powder choice
Cell4soul replied to Zeke-BE's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
That is about my load. 41.4 grains of H4350 at 2745 FPS. To the OP, if you can't find any H4350, I'll give you a pound. I think I have about 6.5 lbs, so I can spare a little until I can find some more. -

My brother has a 2004 F350 diesel long bed 4x4 with 80,000 miles on it. He just bought a new Dodge, so I think he is looking to sell it. He is in San Siego though.

Did you uniform the primer pockets?

Great post. You've got me fired up for my post Thanksgiving hunt.

Went out shooting with Tac (Terry) this weekend to learn my dope at various distances. We started at 200 and worked out in 100 yard increments. My goal was to verify MOA out to 600 as I feel this will be my effective hunting range. My Strelok app was dead on out to 600. I didn't measure groups at 600, but they appeared to be 3" or less. I was really happy with the results. After verifying to 600, we took the rifles a little further ending up at 850 yards. My Strelok app wasn't accurate after 600 yards. The app called for 14.5 MOA at 700, I only had to dial 13.5 MOA. We went to 850 yards and the app called for 19.87 MOA, I dialed at 18.5 MOA. My scope ran out of room at 18.5 MOA, so if I start shooting further I will have to get a 20 MOA rail. I will probably do this after my Wyoming hunt and 36B post Thanksgiving hunt. Big thanks to Terry for taking me out. The following pics are 2 shots from my 6.5 Creedmoor and Terrry's 338 Lapua at 850 yards. I am pretty sure the 2 larger splatters (furthest left) are his .338 Lapua. The smaller splatters (high at the neck and right/low of center) are my Creedmoor. Pretty happy with the result and I see how long range can be addicting. Gerrit

It has definitely been a learning process thus far and I am sure it will continue to be.

A factory Savage model 10 predator with a bedded Bell and Carlson stock in 6.5 Creedmoor. Thanks for the input.

A couple pictures from my trip to the range last weekend. Both pictures are groups at 200 yards when I was zeroing the scope. The second pic was my best group. After this group I adjusted the scope 2 clicks left and shot the group in the first pic. Both are 3 shot groups. I think the rifle will be ready for opening day in Wyoming in 2 weeks.

I am going to start reloading for my 6.5 Creedmoor. This will be the first time reloading anything for me. I am going to be using RL17, CCI BR2 Primers and 129 grain Nosler ABLR bullets. I have the following brass to use: 50 pcs new, un-fired Norma 60 pcs once fired Hornady 100 pcs once fired Winchester Which brass do you all recommend? I plan to start at 41 grains and work up. I would like to see velocities near or above 2900 FPS and still maintain accuracy.

How old were you when you started hunting big game?
Cell4soul replied to Zeke-BE's topic in The Campfire
Late starter here, 39 years old on my first big game hunt. Every kill is as fun as the first. -
I am sure this has been discussed or asked before, but does anyone know of a public range or place to shoot to 500+ yards? I have settled on a load for my 6.5 Creedmoor that will be more than sufficient for my hunts this year, so it is time to start taking it to range and figuring out my drops. I leave at the end of September for my Wyoming hunts, so hoping to get this dialed in soon. Any ino you can provide is greatly appreciated.

These are what I purchased. Really light weight and hardly know i am wearing them. I tend to sweat a little more on my calves due to reduced breath ability, but I will deal with that for peace of mind. I even wore mine on my post Thanksgiving hunt in 36B last year. 3 years ago we bumped into a rattler in late October up in Wyoming, so they can be out during the day even in colder months. You won't regret the Turtle Skins.
