I have one of these and I haven't been very happy with it. It's ok if the object - in my case deer - are stationary but if they are moving you can't track them very well. Also by the time you get the thing setup the objects are out of the picture. I would not recommend this device.

I read a great article last year about an archery hunter that gut shot a great deer. He searched for over 4 days. He enlisted the help of his hunting buddies and continued to search well after all his buddies told him he shouldn't feel bad about giving up since he had made every reasonable effort to find and recover the deer but he pressed on. On the morning of the 5th day of searching he found the buck of course the coyotes and birds did in the cape and meat. He concluded the article with the thought that had he given up he would have never felt right about it and if you are ever faced with this situation don't give up until you can feel right about it. The trick that he used to help locate the deer was he was sitting on a bluff and watched the birds. After a while he notice they kept flying in and out of a brushy area - he went to check it out and there the deer was. So don't give up and follow the birds. Good luck!

Here's the ballistics information Red Rabbit shared with me when I was talking to him about the 130 grain TTSX bullet in 30 cal. The difference in wind drift amazed me. I think i'm going to try a 165 grain bullet in my 300 WSM based on this info. "I just ran the Ballistcs with the 130 TTSX @ 3500fps and the 150 Scirocco @3250 and 180 Scirocco@ 2960fps. Drop at 800 yards with 250 yard zero is respectively: 106", 111", 125" 10mph Wind Drift @ 800 yards is: 47", 39", 36" Energy at 800 yds is 971, 1223, 1423 ft/lbs Velocity at 800 yards is 1834, 1916, 1887 fps (I think Barnes lists 2000 fps for proper expansion"

I'm too old to have to re-learn something I forgot 20 years ago. Thanks for trying to educate a simpleton like me though.

Ok professor, these kinds of posts are just begging for that "Ask Doug" forum we discussed. And what's a cosine? I remember hearing something about that in junior high but don't really recall what it is.

Great Buck - Congrats...the mass on his bases is unbelievable - what did they measure?

I have this pack and love it. I had to use the unconditional warranty once - The problem was clearly my fault - all they did was asked what I did, I told them shipped it back to them and within 5 business days I had a brand new pack delivered to me. That's a great price for a great pack.

I received my leftover tag yesterday and my refund today.

Which rifle is best for coues and psossibly elk?
scoutm replied to BIGBUGPETE's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I have had Lawson put brakes on two of my rifles and they are great. They port at about 45 degrees rather than 90 so they don't reduce the recoil to the same extent but they are far less harsh on the ears. Recommend his work highly. -

No, I went up into a unit close to my house yesterday afternoon to pull a camera I had placed in that unit in hopes of a favorable drawing. Since I was up there I took some time to glass an area we don't spend much time in and found the two bucks. I watched them for about 45 minutes and then went home. I'll start going to the "leftover" Unit in a couple of weeks. -

I named him Tops because of the way his horns remind me of the tops of a Caribou antlers. He's definetly a unique buck. -
How can we pay now so you don't have to carry us? Also, like the front logo much better without the circle on it. Makes it much nicer looking.

Don't do it dude...you will regret it. Save those pennies and buy a nice used or mid range spotting scope - a scope won't get used as much as that rifle will and besides if you see a 50" deer in a 60X scope you'll be blasting away thinking its a 100 incher.

Just got off the phone with GF Draw department the person I spoke with told me that if we don't stop calling she will never get them done and then was kind enough to let me know I drew 36C leftover permit - I'm back in the game!!
-
I just got off the phone with GF and they said the results of the "Leftover" permits would not be posted on-line or on automated phone system. To find out if you are draw you will have to call GF directly and ask. They said they will not have the information available for a "Few" days. The said Thurday at the earliest.

I didn't think baiting was legal for that species...could be wrong though. -

Phil - Sorry to hear about the Jacka$$es messing with your cameras. Any chance the rancher might work with you in trying to ID the Thieves? -
I like it but I think it may show better and fit with the design on the back a little better if the circle was removed.
