scoutm replied to scoutm's topic in Contests and Giveaways!
I was going off the last member number. Either way having that many members says a lot about the site's founder! Thanks. -
Ernesto, did you get this tag sold?? I want to see that big boy on the ground this year. I hate know he got the better of me.

Here's a pic of the deer sundevil and I chased around for two days we just couldn't close the deal. You can't tell from the pic but he is a solid 4x4. While I was doing the stalking sundevil kept an eye on him but for fear of losing sight of him this is the only picture we have. We did the math on him several time and we kept comming up with 115" +/- 2" again it hard to see it but he is a solid 4x4 (plus eye gaurds)

Umm. what party has the majority in the house? That crazy eyed speaker cannot even get her party to agree with it, plus what kind of f###ing retard insults the other party before the vote...? It is all wrong neither party cares about the common person. Redman The kind of "retard" what want's to make sure she can play the blame game a while long while at the same time make sure nothing every get's fixed. -
I wouldn't have expected to see hard horns for a couple weeks. Thanks for the update.

The deer in the top picture looks hard horned...is that possible?

CASEY KIND OF LIKE GRASS TANK? I would guess that if anyone spent five minutes with a good map of the area they would have no trouble figuring out what tank you are talking about.

+1 Nice job guys it only took an hour and 20 minute to run the e-scouter off...does anyone know what the record is?
-
Dude, your freaking me out. No reptiles allowed on grill. Man law! I would think that would be a point in his favor, it is definitely not some soy burger or even a veggie burger. Casey did you shoot the snake or just smack it with a rock or stick, because nobody will get on you about a head shot on this one. The problem is he went for the head shot and made the perfect heart lung shot...go figure!

Congrats Doug!!! Great looking goat and excellent write up. Felt like I was there.

If you look at the course you are correct MOST of it is down hill but to make sure you want to die I believe the last couple of miles is up hill.

You probably know this, but I should mention that we have a full-time person (maybe that FTE mentioned before!!) that does nothing but work with landowners in SE AZ to preserve and open new access points. His name is Matt Walton in the Tucson office and he does a phenomenal job. We have others in Phoenix in a whole "Access Program" doing the same thing and they are very active, but I don't have to tell anyone here what a huge and widespread problem it is. They do what they can and they actually do some amazing things. This is something we all need to work very hard on - its only going to get worse. JIM I have spoken with Matt and I agree he does a great job. Unfortunately, he doesn't have much to work with. I think more legal action needs to take place to start opening areas that are closed illegally and more legislative work needs to be done to restrict private land owners' ability to block access to public lands. So many of them are using public lands for economic benefit while blocking the access to the public that's allowing them the privilege of that economic benefit - I have a difficult time accepting that. If they are going to receive economic benefit and block access then the land should be assessed as private and the land user should be charged the appropriate property taxes or the fees for using the public lands should be increased significantly to account for the restricted access. I recognize that forcing them to open the access creates a host of other problems but the way it is now the only people paying any kind of consequence it the public 99% of which respects the private property owner and works hard to ensure we leave it the way we found it. I recognize that much of this is the result of the public abusing landowners property - fences, wells, water tanks - and we as users of the public lands need to be active in stopping the destructive behaviors. Thanks.

If "making it possible for more individuals to hunt without increasing significantly the number of animals killed" is the goal why don't they just add a 1000 WT tags to 37B. You'll have a 1000 more with the opportunity to hunt but with little chance of killing any animals. Meets the goal but doesn't really provide a quality opportunity. I have to ask, wouldn't there be far more opportunity and more quality opportunity created by finding a way to open access to the thousands of acres of public land that private land owners have blocked access to? Has anyone ever studied the opportunity lost in this area? I for one would like to see AZGFD take a much more active role in opening roads that are illegally locked and creating new access points to other blocked areas.

Thanks all! I had a great trip to OR for a family reunion. Found out I have a 3rd cousin that farms next to a wildlife preserve that for the first time issued land owner tags for a population reduction hunt - the elk are destroying their crops - unfortunately they won't have another one for several years. Anyway, they "GAVE IT" if you can believe it to one of their kids teachers and he killed a 403" Rosevelt Elk this summer. I asked to be first on that list next time a tag come up. -
This is the range finder I have and it works great. The only problem with it is it's a little big. It's easy to use, ranges well out to 1100 yards and well past that on reflective surfaces. For those that like to shoot long range it will also calculate holdover based on your rounds ballistics. All you have to to is pick a round from their chart that come the closest to your, enter the code into the range finder and you're good to go - Range the target read the hold over and go.

I was wonder who those two dingleberries were too. I've seen them hanging off the back side of sheep but never on the back side of a good looking buck like that.

Went out with Casey this morning to chase a group of bucks we found last week. We quickly found the group shortly after sunrise. The group had changed a bit by dropping a small 3x3 but traded up for a really nice 3x3. We debated if it was the small 3x3 with a weeks more growth but it would have had to have added 10-15 inches in just a week so we decided it was a new one. Casey put a stock on them (I will let him tell the story) and I took some video and Pics while he did that. Here are a few of the better ones. The video is a little shaky I need to get some kind of adapter. What do you think he will score? http://s99.photobucket.com/albums/l302/sco...eer82908080.flv

That's a geat looking buck. I hope it makes it to December for you. I know a lot of CW'ers who have that unit this year (including me) so you may want to start thinking about how to keep us all away from him. Good luck with him.

Here's the other bad boy we saw...

Here's the 2nd best buck - he has some great eye-guards.

Well I was a little disappointed that I couldn't go out for the opening weekend due to my Sister and my wife's cousin choosing the opener as there weekend to come to town but after dropping them off at the airport Sunday, Casey and I made a quick dash to a place I thought would both be shaded and wind protected due to how hard the wind was blowing. Arrived right at 5:00 PM and immediately started finding deer. It started with an old doe about a hundred yards away from us just huffen and stompen at us. Around 6:00 PM the deer started coming out of every little cut. We found 20 deer with half of them being bucks. Most of the bucks were spikes but Casey located a group of 4 bucks a smallish 3x3, a really nice 3x2 with great eye guards and two spikes. Here's some video of the group. The first video is of the biggest buck - it's pretty unsteady as it was through my spotting scope with a hand held camera. You can still make out the nice frame he has and if you wait until the end you can see the nice eye guards. Hope you enjoy. http://s99.photobucket.com/albums/l302/sco...eer82408003.flv http://s99.photobucket.com/albums/l302/sco...eer82408002.flv http://s99.photobucket.com/albums/l302/sco...eer82408001.flv

I'm sure Huskemaw Optics makes a great product but I have to say I have a problem with their TV show. To me it appears they make no effort to close the distance to game just to show off their "long range shooting system". Many of the shots in my opinion are unethical to begin with but when coupled with the fact that they could have cut the distance in half with little effort makes it that much worse. How many times did things not go perfect and how many animals were wounded that we don't get to see - not necessarily by them but by the guys who buy their "system" . They make it look too easy and the average guy that shoots the weekend before the hunt ends up thinking he can make that shot - I know they say practice is critcal but I've never heard them say you should always attempt to close the distance first. I don't care how good the optics are or how much you pay for them cutting the distance will do more to ensure good shot placement than any scope. That said I have to admit I'm guilt of it - I have turrets on one of my scopes and I relied on them before without the appropriate practice and without trying to close the distance but I was fortunate - I had a clean miss and I learned my lesson - I won't be lobbing lead again without cutting the distance first. For those wondering how I know I had a clean miss...first I had a spotter tell me I missed and secondly, after closing the distance, I successfully harvested the animal. Sorry for highjacking the thread.
