  1. Was in Mexico this past weekend with a number of fellow members of the site. The trip down went great! We had no problems checking our guns in at both the Mexican Customs or with the Military and arrived to meet the rancher at the exact time specified. With much excitement we set out for our first morning hunt only to find a fresh lion kill in the middle of the road. The rancher had driven the road the day before so knew it had to be from the night before - there are more details that I will let some of the other guys fill in. Due to some extremely high winds we didn't see too many bucks the first few days but were able to find enough to keep our interest and excitement up. Here are a few pictures. One great buck was seen but I don't have pictures of him so one of the others will need to post them up. I was fortunate enough to capture a pretty intense buck fight on camera. Twice the bigger buck flipped the small buck but I wasn't fortunate enough to capture that on tap. Hope you enjoy... Guy's please add some more detail... http://s99.photobucket.com/albums/l302/sco...xico1215040.flv http://s99.photobucket.com/albums/l302/sco...xico1215048.flv

    First Weekend in Mexico

No bucks taken yet. We have two more trips during the peak of the rut so no one was in a real hurry to take one.

    Life Span of the USA

I don’t believe it’s saying that criminals vote for Democrats (I don’t think most criminals vote at all) nor does it say if you vote Democrat you’re a criminal. But what I do think it illustrates is that a significant percentage of the Democratic vote comes from Metropolitan areas where the Socioeconomic conditions results in higher crime rates - so yes individuals vote for the candidate that does promise to focus on solving “their problems” - high crime rate being an example – high crime? fix it with gun control. Crime and gun control (a major component of the Democrats platform) don’t correlate too well but what gun control does do is offer the illusion of security the illusion that something is being done about crime but does nothing to address the socioeconomic conditions that influence/foster the crime in the first place. So to address the socioeconomic condition found to a greater extent in metropolitan areas more social benefits are offered. So yes again individuals vote for the candidate that does promise to focus on solving “their problems” Unfortunately, too many of these social programs do little to create independent and self sustaining members of society. Too many of these programs unfortunately create the entitlement mind set. Which takes me to your final comment, which I couldn’t agree with more – Fiscal Responsibility! Your rephrased question “How much longer can the USA go under its current unsustainable, live-beyond-it’s-means, debt-ridden lifestyle?” In my estimation not too much longer! This is exactly what Alexander Tyler is saying “every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy” And yes this is what we are watching unfold before our eyes everyday. National Debt at an all time high, a negative savings rate, budget deficits too big to comprehend, the export of our countries wealth to countries that don’t like us, the inability to create new wealth because we can’t utilize our own resources, the first generation in US history that will have a lower standard of living than the generation before, our borders being assaulted on a daily basis with the future promise of amnesty and even greater social benefit expense, billion dollar bailouts, and etc. It doesn’t look very optimistic from where I sit and I don’t believe it’s going to improve unless we see a fundamental change in how our country views personal responsibility and accountability.

    Life Span of the USA

A friend (never been on this site before) of mine e-mailed this map to me today that shows the results of the 2008 Election. Professor Joseph Olson of Hemline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota (Statistics above) updated the figures show in the 2000 election and said there were insignificant changes to the makeup of who voted Dem and who voted Rep.

    Cooper Model 52

It's reticle 43. See below. I'm not sure I have it entirely correct but what i understand is with the Zeiss scope the reticle is on the second image plane so the reticle does not change size as the magnification is increased. It is however effected by the reduced field of view at higher magnification levels. So with my scope the "smug" we could see at low magnification was on the edge of Reticle plane and as the magnifcation increased the smug moved outside the field of view. They told me the smug occurred during orginal manufacturing and had nothing to do with changing out the turrets - I can't say if that's true or not but then that doesn't really matter as I have a new scope now. I just need to do some reading up on how to use this new Reticle - they told me it's their fastest growing reticle choice - If I don't like it they can change it to a different style for $50.00.

    Cooper Model 52

Nice looking rifle for sure and looks like quite the shooter. As RR said I sent my conquest in to have the turrets replaced with target style turrets...they are amazing. I did have a little problem with the scope not related to the turrets though. I called Zeiss service center, they had me send it back to them, they called the day after they received it and said that they could ship me a brand new scope next day if I would accept one with a different reticle. I took a look at the reticle on their web site and it looked good so I agreed. I recieved the scope back the other day. I mounted it today and will be taking it shooting tomorrow. If you are going to do any long-range shooting I highly recommend having the turrets changed out.

    2x4 down!

Casey - great looking buck. I love the character he has. Congrats!!
  9. I spoke with my rep and he confirmed it was dead (for now). The way in which it was written didn't allow it to get a hearing but there is nothing to stop it from being reintroduced when they are back in session. Here are two links with e-mail for all the reps. http://www.azleg.gov/MemberRoster.asp?Body=S Senate http://www.azleg.gov/memberRoster.asp?Body=H

    36c atv?

It's my understanding a couple of the ranches don't permit ATV use - condition on granting access - check the G&F Website for info.

    NRA

I too have been turned off with the constant begging but I did renew just last week. In my discussion with them I found out that you can put your phone number on the do not call list and they will not contact you for any reason - so with that I resigned.

    A Little Gun History

I've been reading a lot of this type of material lately and it's good information...but it does nothing if no action is taken what action is everyone taking? I re-upped my NRA Membership and I'm compiling a list of e-mails of all my representative so I can let them know how I feel.

    The Lucky Bean II

Here are a few more pictures from our hunt - the buck is only one of two bucks I glassed up the entire trip - this one on thrusday before the hunt. True to form I have no problem finding them during our scouting but come hunt time my eyes turn off to seeing bucks I was averaging over 20 does and fawns per day. I did find one other 3x3 in the 85+ category but didn't get any pictures of him and wasn't able to make a move on him. I also have a picture of a drowned RedRabbit but I'm doing Doug a solid and not sharing...that is of course someone makes it work my while...

    Nov. Hunt

Thanks but not waiting for next year...we still have Old Mexico and I'm hoping for much better results there.
  21. Well I'm all recovered and unpacked from our November hunt. We had a really good time but didn't see much in the way of good deer. Lot's of does and fawns but very few quality bucks. Next year should be really good. I did have a few highlights mostly from the trail camera. The month is wrong on the date stamp they are all from October not November. Has anyone ever seen spotted fawn in th middle of October? The lion looks like a pretty nice one too.

Doug - really enjoyed having you in camp. When I down load my pictures I'll be sure to forward the picture of the drowned Red Rabbit I took. Also, after you had left we all burned our (un)lucky beans. Larry
