Happy Birthday! Looks like a good time was had by all.

Look at the bright side guys with 700 tags you're probably looking at over 1,000+ people in the field at the same time. The deer are going to be so pressured they're going to be running around all day long. As long as you can shoot effectively at deer running all out you will have no problems.

Congrats Jaycie (and Dad) what a great buck and your first one to boot. Sounds like you're getting hooked on best site on the net too....what's your handle going to be. Chef - what a great gift to have the whole experience documented so well. 30 years from know I'm sure Phil will still be watching it and remembering it like it was yesterday.

If you use microsoft office picture manager you can edit the picture, choose the compress option in the resize section and i choose webpage and it reduces it but still shows a good size when posted.

Never hunted the gap. I've ridden my dirtbike out there and yes the road it rough for sure. I wouldn't take my truck in but a quad is ok.. Never really had access issues it's an open unit. The area's you mentioned hold lots of deer they're there with the weather change should be easier to find.

I loaded these up to my GPS the other night. They are great. Easy to do too.

Plenty of bucks in those areas just keep glassing you will find them.

In my experience the subtle differences between good glass and great glass can’t be seen too much in a side by side comparison. Where the difference really shows up is after hours of looking through the glass. With the higher end glass you have less eye fatigue. When you glass through lower end glass your eyes can make up for the difference for short periods but over hours of glassing eyes fatigue and the true difference becomes a factor. So I would suggest get the best glass you can comfortably afford and put that money into binoculars at the expense of a spotting scope.

In the process of loading up the maps this is great. Thanks for posting.

Our esteemed colleague .270 (Lark) has in an otherwise useless thread made the RON WHITE Motion and said Motion has been seconded. This poll will serve as the formal vote on that motion. A two-thirds majority is required for the passing of the Motion. If passed it will be forwarded to Amanda for signature. Assuming she does not elect to use her VETO powers to reject the passed motion, all useless threads and otherwise unwinable arguments can be ended by declaring to the threads originator "RON WHITE" Hopefully freedom will ring and the Motion will pass. Thank you.

Here's 2 cents from a novice reloader... When I was evaluating the same decision the one thing that kept coming up was when you start getting to the longer and/or heavier bullets in the 7mm and 300 WSM you start to impact the volume of powder you can load with and therefore start to negatively impact performance. With the short action these calibers are offered in you will also have limits on the COAL which may have an impact on developing an accurate load with some of the better longer bullets like berger VLD. So I would recommend that if you decide on the 7mm I would go with Rem 7mm mag. If you decide on .308 I would go with the 300 Win Mag but if you must have the short action then I would go with the 270 and plan on purchasing a second rifle at a later date. I went with the 270 WSM. I later purchased a 300 wsm and I've had issues with developing a load that's accurate and feeds well due to COAL issues. Hope this helps and again I am a novice reloader so someone with more experience may have solutions to the issues I've described.

Thanks for the birthday wishes. I had a great weekend with the family - went to the Grand Canyon, Sedona and Flagstaff. Thanks again.

I HAD a pair. Pretty good glass but I had problems with the focus and diaopter adjustment being too close together. I would go to focus and change the diaopter adjustment. They were very heavy too.

Access to Skeleton Canyon Area
scoutm replied to wyohunter's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
Don't know about the NM side but you use to be able to access Skeleton canyon from the AZ side through Apache AZ off Hwy 80. You just follow the signs to Geronimo's surrender site. I know the rancher blocked access a while back and I don't know if it's been reopened or not. Need to be careful of some of the ranchers in that area some seem to think leased public land translates to private deeded land. Good luck. PS. I also understood this to be a different hunt from your 36a hunt becuase this thread was posted in hunting NM and knowing that Skeleton Canyon is in 30A in AZ and 27 in NM. -

I was thinking more like 10%.

Never hunted it but I have hiked it numberous times. That time of year you can expect a ton of people being up there some of which I'm sure won't be too hunter friendly.

WOW! Baby Quail this late?
scoutm replied to quailchaser's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I had two groups around my house about 2-3 weeks ago. Had to be only a few days old. -
I believe that in GF's quest for opportunity (code word for revenue) they underestimated or lost sight of quality. If the opportunity to hunt doesn't offer the chance at a quality experience why put in. I know that the added hunts, the increased number of hunters in the field, access issues and illegal activities have impacted my experience. In the last few years we've had problems with other hunters vandalizing our vehicle in an effort to claim an area for themselves, we've been pressured by illegal traffic, we've been persued by BP because we tripped ground sensor, we've seen deer numbers decline, we've had access cut off,we've seen the quality of deer deminish, we've found locked gates on public land, we've felt it necessary to leave areas because we've found bails of drugs. All have impacted my desire to hunt.

did you sneak in with your decoy to get these?
