What are you gunna get this year?
scoutm replied to deserthntr's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Whats his name ? Sundevil Now there's a match made in he!! if i've ever seen one. New Tires. They are bing mounted as I type this. -
Does Arizona have a rule that requires non-residents to hunt with a guide?

Doug's is a 6.5WSM. I think he resizes 270WSM brass. I would suspect that you will get very similar ballistics to the 270WSM with a slight improvement for the higher BC bullets available in 6.5.

I have the diablo pack. Its a great day pack. Anyone looking for a well designed day pack should pick this one up.

Doug, I really like the first picture. Great work as always. Larry

You can find a used rifle of your choice and buy a custom barrel and have it chambered in 6.5x284. Depending on what used rifle you purchase and who you get the barrel from you should be pretty close to your $1,000 budget. Everything I've read about 6.5s says pay close attention to the twist of the barrel, I guess they can be rather twist sensitive.

What really sucks is there is no way the Feds will ever let California sink and all of us will be paying to bail them out and we will be paying for their failed liberal agenda for the rest of our lives.

From G&F Website: Antelope Overview: If you want to hunt a record-book antelope, this is the place. Antelope densities are actually somewhat low and fluctuate from year-to-year based on climatic conditions and the amount of predation exerted upon the herd by the plentiful numbers of coyotes. Between 85 and 95 percent of all fawns conceived are lost to various mortality factors each year. According to research, most fawn mortality is caused by coyote predation. so, in my book, if you eliminate one you've done all you need to do except for maybe post a picture.

Bump for details on what you are going to build?

Killed my first Coues from the Bruno Canyon area almost 20 years ago. It was pretty thick and overgrown back then...really hope this and last summers fire brings the habitat back to what nature intended and returns the unit to the quality area it once was.

Ernesto - I can't stop myself from coming back to looking at your buck...he has everything - Length, width, mass, eye gaurds and junk everywhere!! Congrats again. Truely a special buck!!

Why's it cheaper on Backpage?
-
Ernesto - AWESOME buck. Way to get it done.

I would expect that the value of timber sales in 2002 (rodeo/chediski) was much higher than today since at that time it was the hight of the housing boom. I'm sure in that market they could make money but in this market I'm sure they can't afford to use high cost method to harvest the timber.

the 30mm tube would be nice to get that extra MOA adjustments of the two zeiss that I have the 4.5-14x44 required a 20moa rail to get out past 600 yards. x50 scope is good well past 600 yards. Can't go wrong with either of these scopes.

Congrats again on a couple of nice bucks. Taking that first buck from the SE corner of the ranch had to be a chore and a half - that is some rough country. A well earned trophy for sure. Too bad the lion situation hasn't improved any. I'm still amazed at how that buck we found in the middle of the road the first year we hunted down there was picked clean by a lion in less than 12 hours. Congrats.

http://www.cameralan....pl?page=521450 Get the demo w/target turrets and you will be good to go. I have two demo ($850.00) scopes in the conquest line love them. There was now way I would have known they were demo models if I hadn't ordered them that way. Great scope and great support.

Happy Birthday Red Rabbit, Vowell and Minguscoues!

Happy Birthday Doug. Hope you had a great one. -
Couldn't agree with you any more strongly....But, at the same time J-off yahoos need to stop giving them reasons to lock the gates - leaving trash, shooting signs, leaving gates open, trashing fences and so on. This year I saw a hunting camp that allowed their kid to cut down a mature tree with an axe - there was absolutely no reason for it - I'm sure that thrilled the rancher.

Hunting boots: what's good and what isn't?
scoutm replied to CouesSlayer77's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I really like my Danner Lights II http://www.amazon.com/Danner-Light-II-Outdoor-Brown/dp/B000N99YKA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1326235234&sr=8-1 Took awhile to break them in and they gave me fits doing so but once broken in they've been great. Light, breathable, made in USA, replacable Vibram sole. Should be good for another 3 seasons (6 total) before they'll need replaced. -
Sure have. Quail hunting with another member of the site we came across about a half dozen bails stashed under a tree. We quickly got GPS coordinates and got out of there. Later we called BP with the location and on the drive out we stopped a BP agent and gave them the location as well.

This one has both horns....
scoutm replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Congrats on a great buck Casey. Sorry my schedule got so jacked up I would have enjoyed a few days out in the field. I must say that I'm impressed that you held your ammo for so long and passed on some really good buck. It's easy to see how you could miss judge that buck his body is rather small. Looks better than 93". Congrats again on a well earned buck. -
Berger VLD vs Barnes TTSX
scoutm replied to azcoueshuntr's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I'm guessing if you choose the VLD you are going to sacrifice velocity because the bullet will need to be set pretty deep in order for the cartiridge to fit the magazine...I had this very issue in my wsm using the 168gr TTSX. I would suspect it to be worse with the VLD unless you choose a lighter bullet.
