Southwest Shooting Authority "If you voted for Barack Obama, your business is not welcome
scoutm replied to cactusjack's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Just a couple things unions made possible that people take for granted, daily: 8 hour work days, 40 hour work weeks, weekends, child labor laws, OSHA, minimum wage and whole lot more all brought to you from UNIONS!!!!! So if you think unions are the enemy, you are wrong. That is living breathing proof unions don’t just fight for union members. Our entire country benefits from unions and has for hundreds of years. You are absolutely correct!! Unions have done many great things for this country and to ignore them is disrespectful but by the same token Unions have also done considerable harm in the last few decades and to ignore that is naïve. All one has to do is look to the many State, Municipalities and school districts that are on the verge of bankruptcy as a result of union demands. -
Congrats. The pictures turned out really good.

OK, that's not fair...posting up that kind of info and not having a picture it...come man let's see it.

Electoral College good or bad?
scoutm replied to OpticNerd's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
That's already the case. If you looked at the red/blue map the only areas that were blue where the large cities...Just look at Ohio - I don't know how many counties there are but only about a dozen of them went blue - Cinncinatie, Cleveland, Columbus and Toledo...the rest was red. Large cities are deciding the outcomes -
Depending on on your definition of small business this isn't quite accurate...Here's how it will work out and in the end it will be a much lower level of care for his voters: Employeers under 50 - There is no penalty for not offering healthcare under the new law so I project most will drop the coverage they currently offer their employees and force them to fend for themselves. This will push the masses into the state risk pools which will not have enough physicians, hospital and ancillary providers to cover the need thereby rationing of care by restriction access. The savings from not providing healthcare will then be used to pay the higher taxes assessed to the owner. So, small business survives average joe pays more for less coverage. Empoyeers 50 to ??? - There are penalties for employeers over 50 but they are lower than what these employers pay in preminums by a considerable amount - for my company approximately $100,000.00 less. So, from a business stand point you again discontinue the benefits and force the employees into the state risk pools and take the savings to pay the increased taxes. So again small business survives and average joe pays more for less coverage. This I'm sure was by design...makes a new and rather large portion of the population dependent on government securring the future of liberal governance. It's like all his policies - bait them with freebies on the front end but cost them more on the backend but in today's society who looks beyond the freebies.

Game over, country gone, good night to all.

Great Illegal voting in Ohio two judges removed over it.

They just showed the red/blue map by county instead of state. Blew me away. 95% was red only the inner city counties were blue.

Carbon fiber tripods
scoutm replied to elkhunter's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/548524-REG/Manfrotto_190CXPRO3_190CXPRO3_3_Section_Carbon_Fiber.html I have this tripod. Very similar to what Doug posted just a bit shorter and cheaper. I've been really happy with it, however, I think I would go with Doug's recommendation as mine is just a couple inches too short for me to glass with comfortably standing up. -
There wouldn't be if guys of your "stature" would step up a shoot a caliber that's more consistent with shall we say your "caliber" ...I'm thinking a 338 would be more fitting....leave the .257's to small guys like me.
-
I wouldn't trust these numbers at all. During our hunt we were seeing 10+ bucks per day. Other hunters in the same area weren't seeing 10 deer total. If the surveys were sent to both of us the results would have been at the opposite ends of the spectrum.
-
IMHO, if you want to see a larger number of bigger/better age class deer here's what I believe the management strategy needs to be: 1. Reduce the number of tags in all units 2. Find a way to Increase the annual Lion harvest (you could also add Coyotes - particularly for Antelope) 3. Open up access to ALL public lands to help spread the pressure. 4. Mandatory Harvest reporting so they know what is actually being harvested 5. Restore/rebuild and develop water catchments I'm no expert but it would seem to me that these 5 things would have tremedous benefit for big game.
-
They do have the some method for this i can't remember what they called it something like "alternative management" or something like that. I think 36C is one of the units. Don't think it's working too well.

just think of how much MORE meat you would get if you let that little guy grow up! LOL yep you would get another 5 to 10lbs of meat if you let that coues grow up!!!!!!!!!! My back and knees tell me your calculations are a bit off or i've just been (un)fortunate to shoot bigger bodied deer.
-
Nothing wrong with shooting a spike for meat - they're good eatin!!! However, I for one, would like to see the age class of the bucks improve but I think the way to do it is to reduce the number of tags and take out a good number of lions.

Put in a new fire extinguisher.

Amazing shot for sure. I would never have expected a AMAX to be a through and through at that range. I may have to reconsider it for my .264WM. I would, however caution you on being so certain there was no one else in the area because there's only one road in/out. We too hunt in an areas that only has one road in and based on your picture our area is MUCH rougher and to our suprise there was a spike camp well beyond us. There was no evidence they were in there but they were so I again would just caution you as there are some tough SOBs that go to great lengths to get away from other hunts. Again, amazing shot.

Kenton Industries Turrets
scoutm replied to couescrazy31's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have an elevation turret cap from Kenton on my 25-06 w/ zeiss conquest scope it works great. I've never shot it past 550 yards but out to that range its dead on. much quicker than using a ballistics card. -

scoutm replied to Becker's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Fantastic buck. Congrats. -
Happy Birthday Phil. Hope you have a great one.

My 270 really likes Nosler BT. The BT have performed very well on the Coues I've shot with them. I wouldn't use them on anything larger though. Don't know about the powder as it's not one I use for it.

Congrats again!!! Baby due in 7 months?? How'd that happen? You're in for some amazing times - enjoy them as they go by faster than you can imagine!!
