. Presentation on the Pilot Big Boquillas Ranch Access Project and Agreement and an updat
scoutm replied to bonuspointjohn's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I have a huge problem with paying a fee to access public land that was purposely checker boarded with private land. If they infact do that then as owners of the public lands we should be demanding ranchers pay a much higher fees to access and benefit off our public lands. -
Final wording for the Bait Ban
scoutm replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
That quote seems to contradict itself... the three items they say are "perfectly acceptable" seem to fail the "salt-based product produced for something other than livestock industry will not be acceptable" test. unless they are considering that ranchers salt their steaks and use water softeners so by definition they are produced for the livestock industry. Seems clear as mud to me. -
Outcome of the Game & Fish meeting today????

I'm sure there's a moonshiner out there that will take it off your hands...oh wait that's banned too. -
Don't change the subject we were talking football. Besides with OSU's head coach being Obummer's brother in law what can you expect from the team - they don't play defense and they expect their opponets to not play defense either because it just doesn't pay to work hard on or off the court.

I know this is meant as a jab at my beloved Beavers so I won’t read too much into it but, do a little research first… Oregon State also returns 16 starters - 9 offense and 7 defense – of the departing player only two will be difficult to replace – their consensus All American cornerback and their all time leading receiver 92 receptions last year. Also, if you exclude the Oregon loss they were in every game they played – the remaining 3 losses were by a combined 11 points and all winnable in the last quarter if not for bonehead mistakes. And with the way their schedule lines up (with two bye weeks one early and one late) if their quarterback (sophomore) returns to his per-knee injury level of play (6 TDs / 1 Int / 142.2 passer rating), the Beavers will be the 10-2 team not the Devils. Not to mention with the Beavers coming off a late season bye week no way will it be a blow out for the Devils... I see the same final as this year….Beavers 36 to the Devils 26.

San Carlos Tag Filled Part 2
scoutm replied to azcouesandelk's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Congrats on a great buck!! Where can I find Part 1 ...I seem to have missed it? -
I just received this picture from a buddy of mine Stephen. He’s from Utah but shares a lease down in Georgia. He had a nice season ending double with a doe and a hog. He had a chance at a 500lb boar but it wouldn’t present a shot. He’s brought some of the pork to hunts here in AZ and it’s some of the best meat I’ve ever had.

I know you're not a cats fan but whacking him just because he was wearing a cats hat is a bit much....

Was a tough hunt for sure. I think the most surprising thing about it was the ratio of tags to people in the field. There had to be at least 6 additional people in the field for each hunter with a tag. Looking forward to next year.

Great buck!! Congrats!! He looks really good in the trail cam pictures but the hero shot is just plain AWESOME! Nice write-up too.

Looked like a great hunt! Congrats! Looking forward to seeing your MX hunt.

That's a pretty good price on that setup...new that's $500.00+tax. Why you selling? I've heard good things about the pack...was there something you didn't like about it?

Fantasitc Buck congrats!!! I'm sorry I feel the need to ask but it kinda looks like you are holding his right antler on...did his skull plate come apart - hope not. Again, Fantasic Buck!!

A BMX bike when I was 11 year old. I had to have logged thousands of miles on that thing. I paid for them with a broken wrist once and my collarbone twice. It got me to more sports practices than I could count and quite a few fishing trips to some local crappie ponds and some small trout creeks.

The world has gone crazy
scoutm replied to DesertBull's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
This will be another indictment of guns and the need to gun control when it should be an indictment of mental health awareness and the mental health system. Thoughts and prayors to all envolved...I can't and don't even want to imagine what all parents are feeling right now. -
Michigan tells Unions to back off
scoutm replied to DesertBull's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Suspended?? Are you kidding me? These guys put everyone in the plant at risk, everyone who drives one of the cars they built at risk, put every individual they passed on the way back to the plant at risk and they only get suspended??? -
A buddy of ours (SunDevil and Me) decided to pick up a leftover late November Deer tag and he took full advantage of it. Dan and I started hunting Coues in 1992 and in those 20 years, with only a few missed seasons, he's had his chances to fill his tags but has often had a hard time putting everything together - Prior to this hunt he had only harvested two other coues. (Give him a smoke pole and a Javelina tag and the dude is lethal). Never having hunted in his chosen leftover unit Chris and I reached out to some buddies and members of the coueswhitetail.com family we knew that have hunted it before and they were both gracious enough to share some invaluable intel. To our surprise both buddies gave us the same area independently of each other so we felt it must be a really good area. Unfortunately due to Family and work obligation Dan only had a day and a half to fill this tag so the intel we receive was invaluable - thanks again guys. Around 5:30 am we hit the trail to our desired glassing spot and within minutes of sitting down and with barely enough glassing light Chris glassed up a group of bucks. Dan and Chris watched them as it became lighter and as they feed up the ridge. After some time and some discussion Dan decided he wanted to take one of them. Chris set Dan up with a rock solid rest - big rock and a back pack. Chris then got setup to spot, I setup to film and Dan setup to shoot. Only problem was Dan wasn’t able to find the deer in the scope. This wasn't too much of a surprise as Dan was using my rifle and my eyes suck so after Dan commenting the scope was blurry I helped him with making a LARGE diopter adjustment. Once the scope was adjusted Dan picked the buck right up and the rest shall we say is good eats...His third deer and his biggest to date…the picture and video tell the rest of the story. http://s99.beta.photobucket.com/user/scoutm5909/media/Danos2012Deer_0001.mp4.html

Michigan tells Unions to back off

http://www.usnews.co...ing-the-economy Intersting read on the Obama administration, the National Labor Relations Board and Unions. Seems to me they are as mucn to blame as the "evil corporations" If Unions are so fantasitic and offer workers so much why are they affraid of of Right to Work Laws??? An here's a good article that shows how Unions prevent companies from being able to adapt to changing environments...adapt or die.. http://www.usnews.com/opinion/blogs/doug-heye/2011/08/26/time-for-unions-to-face-the-reality-of-a-changing-economy -
4 days + 228 deer = 0 bucks!
scoutm replied to Joe Kauffman's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
The problem is you were about 50 does short of the targeted buck to doe ratio....if you had one more day you would have seen your buck. I think it was the heat and moon...I know others who had similar experience in same unit. They eventually found a nice buck to tag on the second to last day but said it was really tough going...no buck moving at all. With this weather change comming should be nice for the late December tag holders. -
Thanks. Best thing about the video is he will get to share a bit of his hunt with his young son.

So like most mornings, I flip on Fox News before I get out of bed to make sure something didn't happen while I was sleeping that would make getting out of bed pointless. This morning though the TV was still tuned to one of the outdoor channels and to my surprise I was greeted by a picture of none other than Jim Mullins holding a big old mule deer. It was just too much to take that early in the morning. I turned off the TV, rolled over and pretended it was all just a bad dream. Great buck though!!

O'bummer will be rolling out his new theme song next week. It would be funny if it wasn't true.

I think one of the 6.5's would makes for the ultimate coues caliber. You couldn't go wrong with 260 rem, 6.5x284, 6.5 reg mag or a .264 WM. All are fast and flat and the bullet choices are second to none. I just recently had a .264 WM completed. Just breaking in the barrel now.

I saw this release posted on another site and thought some over here might find it interesting. "Bend, Ore. – October 31, 2012 – Nosler, Inc. is pleased to announce the release of their new line of AccuBond® Long Range bullets. Developed through a combination of bullet manufacturing techniques that are unique to Nosler, the design of the AccuBond®-LR allows for the highest B.C. possible in a bullet of the same caliber and weight. Designed with an optimum performance window ranging from 3,200fps to 1,300fps, the unique tapered jacket geometry and proprietary bonding process of the AccuBond®-LR allow it to expand rapidly for effective energy transfer and significant tissue damage while retaining sufficient weight to ensure deep penetration into the vitals. The AccuBond® bonding process allows the AccuBond®-LR to perform reliably on game throughout the entire velocity range, eliminating the problem of being “too close” often encountered with other high-B.C. bullets. The high-performance boat tail, long ogive, and polymer tip combine to make the AccuBond®-LR the sleekest, flattest- shooting, bonded, hunting bullet ever created. The ogive of the AccuBond®-LR is designed to provide excellent accuracy in a wide variety of firearms without the necessity of being loaded close to or in contact with the lands. The new AccuBond®-LR will be packaged in 100 count boxes, and will initially be available in the following calibers and weights. " Really like the high BC 270 option.
