Loved the story and the pics, quite an experience. Congrats to Renee and you, that's a great bull.

The smile tells it all, congratulations.

I'm know I had as much fun as both of you, I was a nervous wreck watching those deer disappear into the junipers, not knowing you were right on top of them. Tessa made all the right decisions on how to stalk them, made a great shot, and ended up with a great buck!

Hi All, A buddy told me about this sight a few weeks ago, I've been enjoying the pics and stories since. I found this buck, along with several others a few weeks before the season opened. They were pretty consistently using the same waterhole. I set up a blind 2 days before the opener and on opening morning had 3 other bucks come in through out the day, but this was the one I was waiting for. He came in about 20 minutes before dark, staying about 40 yards back from the waterhole, just watching. Finally with about 5 minutes of shooting light left, he came in and actually stood over the practice arrow had I shot earlier in the day. Knowing exactly what the yardage was, I was able to make a decent shot and found him about a hundred yards away. Video: http://youtu.be/cvbkmp-VtL8

I had this happen near Prescott, there was a camera already at the waterhole, I waved as I went by and set my cam up about 20 yards away. I had it set to video, when I went to check on it the camera was turned facing 180 from the waterhole, I had a video of a guy with a camera in his hand walking up to mine and turning it. Least he didn't take it, I have the same guy on another camera about 2 miles away from this one.

I checked my cameras, I have 2 videos of this WHITETAIL buck along with a few other bucks. One video is 60MB, the other is 64.4, I keep getting an error when trying to load them, any suggestions? I added a couple screen shots from the videos.

My smallest but probably will be one of the most memorable

That's Super cool, I have pictures of my daughter at 5 helping me cut up a deer. Those memories last forever. -
What a great buck! Congrats

Buglethemin, Sorry, I was more concerned with getting the meat taken care of then photographing his tail... Nice buck in your pictures. He was flagging pretty good after I hit him, a mule deer tail shown at the same angle looks quite a bit different than this bucks. This is my first Coues with a bow, but I've shot quite a few with a rifle, not likely to mistake it for a mule deer at 40 yards.

I had plenty of light early the next morning when I found him. .I could only find a few specs of blood that night, went in early the next morning and with the help of another hunter I ran into, we were able to find enough blood to take us in the right direction and found him in about 10 minutes. Fortunately the meat wasn't spoiled.

Thanks for posting, I enjoyed reading it! I've spent quite a bit of time on Alaska, it's an amazing place, except for November thru March... :-)

You can buy ear plugs that have a flexible plastic band that will keep them on your neck. Just insert them before you shoot.

Welcome, I'm sure you'll learn a lot from this forum. I fondly remember training for the commercial ticket, lots of chandelles, lazy eights, and crazy acronyms like "atomatoflames".
