New huntin' partner
davecinaz replied to Coues79's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Awesome - congratulations! You'll have great times with him down the road - some of my best memories are the camping/hunting/fishing trips with my two boys - now all grown up! Dave -
Don't know about Tim but some of us aren't lucky enough to get drawn for any of our first five choices, so we get stuck putting in for the leftover tags in units we know nothing about SO WE CAN GO HUNTING!! I don't see anything wrong with that! Dave

Chase, Just another congratulations on a great bull! Like somebody else said, no matter what he scores he's a trophy! And it lookds like he will score good. Way to go! dave

I went to Wide World of Maps on Indian School Road. There's no G&F map of the unit, but they can make a topo that's pretty close. You can do it yourself if you go to their web site http://www.maps4u.com/ when's your hunt? Good luck. Dave

MXW13 - I was down to the unit last weekend and spent all my time in the bottom of the unit - in the Huachucas mostly. I drove by the Mustangs on the west side and decided not to stop because there looked like there was a bunch of private property to get through, and then the vegetation didn't look all that good. Looks like I blew it! I'll be able to get down to scout one more time before the season starts - do you have any suggestions you could share about the Mustangs to point me in the right direction - not your honey holes, just general guidance? Thanks for any help. Dave Dave, Thera are basically two ways I found to get into the mustangs. One is on the west side of the mountans, you turn south on Upper Elgin road off Hwy 82. The mountains will be on your left, look for any entrance headed into the area that is not private. Thera should be a gate about two - three miles south of 82. There is a nice sized stock pond on this side of the mountains, and some nice glassing spots. On the east side of the mountain there is a gated entrance just esat of the mountains with a road that runs parallel to the range. There is a sign that says no illegals or coyotes allowed. There are several places along this road you can glass from. I hope this helps. Mike Mike, I'm going down again next weekend so I'll be sure to check out these spots. Thanks a bunch for your help. Dave

Way to go on the carp! My son and I also got two of the leftover tags and I'm also from Flag. I was down there last weekend for a quick scouting trip - you're right, it is a long way from here! if you want to PM me, I'm happy to share what little info I was able to come up with. Otherwise, I'll share a beer/coke with you if you stop by my camp - Coleman tent trailer and a '07 silver Suburban. Dave

I'm looking at a Kawasaki 700 Prairie to buy and need some advice. It's a 2004 with brand new tires and has about 1,100 miles on it (don't know the hours). The owner says it has been serviced regularly and "was his wife's so it has hardly been used"! I haven't had a chance to actually look at it since it's a couple of hours drive away from here. Any suggestions on what it might be worth and whether it would be a good first quad? I've ridden several different quads over the years, but none that big and never a Kawasaki. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Dave
-
You must not ride quads very much. I put that many miles in a year. Actually those are low miles for an ATV that could be at least 3 years old. It is a powerful machine but if you buy it then you won't have to upgrade. That's a lot of quad miles in a year Griz! I'm just going by the used quads I have been shopping. TJ They're asking $4000 which is about right at high book. Low book is around $2800 so I'd probably offer $3200 - 3400. Guess I just need to go ride it and see if I can handle it! Thanks for the advice! Dave

HUH? Just a spur of the moment type thing What a deer! WOW! Thanks for sharing the pics. -
G&F started accepting apps today for left over tags. Does anyone know when and how you can find out if you were drawn, without waiting until the tag shows up? Dave
-
Tines - Thanks for the info. I called and did end up with a tag in 35A, my third choice in the leftover draw. Tried for one of the late tags, but no luck. i'll make at least one scouting trip - will give me a chance to visit my kids at the UofA. Never hunted the unit, but from G&F unit reports, it sounds like there are some deer there. If anyone has some suggestions on where to start, or comments on closed areas, illegals, etc., I'd appreciate it. Thanks. Dave
