Hey Eagle Eye was saw you on the bank Friday....we were the guys in the boat trolling aroud.....those are some nice fish man congrats
-
I would be heading to Big Lake or if you want to be near the water and do not care about the Permit fees i would go to Reservation Lake, good camping and fishing
-
never had much luck with the bobber method like elkaholic uses. Only time i have every done much good with bobbers is using a slip bobber to get down to the suspended fish and using a worm or salmon eggs. Most of the fish we caught were while we were trolling and we caught a few on slip bobbers and Powerbait on the bottom at Big Lake

Thanks, its a really slow tough bite at Sunrise but the ones we hooked up on were nice. Luckily we have had luck the past few years there catching good ones so we kind of had an idea of what they wanted to eat

Fishing was really good at Big Lake on Saturday, caught over a 100 fish between us, they hit everything in my tackle bag. Sunrise was slow but the quality was much better than Big Lake. Caught 7 nice Rainbows in a 11 hours worth of fishing between Friday and Sunday morning. Fished Reservation on Friday eveing for 4 hours and the fishing was good, a lot of small fish, they must have stocked some small fish because the lake is loaded with them. caught a few nice rainbows there and 4 browns on rapalas between 14-17", not huge but fun. Overall a good weekend of fishing. will be headed back up late fall for more nice Filets for the smoker

Thanks for the info Guys, heading up Thursday morning, I will report back on how the fishing was and what seemed to work the best for us
-
I have had luck with those bait as well, never tried the salmon eggs on the rear hooks though. I have some new techniques i will be trying out next weekend, well see if they produce larger fish or not, cant hurt to try. will be making a trip to Sportmans on Wednesday to load up on some tackle. Never had to much luck for big fish at Big Lake but i know they are in there. Might fish Horseshoe for some browns saturday evening
-
Ya its pretty easy to catch the 14-18" trout, looking to target the bigger 20+ inch fish, not sure if we will spend more time at Sunrise or Big Lake. Probably base it on the wind

What do you guys think about the Early rifle bull hunt before the archery bull in 27. I do not hunt 27, not an area I know. Part of me wouldn't mind but I am also not sure how the elk would react after being shot at...might make the archery hunt a little tougher. Guess the flip side is the elk should be bugling like crazy be the time archery comes around

Just curious How many of you guys keep the Browns when you catch them. Personally I always release them to be caught another day. If i want to eat fish I will keep a few rainbows since they are prevalent. Being that they are not stocked often by AZGFD and that the WMAT does limited stocking of Browns I prefer release them
-
caught this one a couple years ago
-
It is a shame to see people keep the browns. They are so fun to catch because how aggressive they are. I will usually keep a few few a year when we ice fish to smoke for dinner but never a brown. I hate the big brown tournament the WMAT does because they have to keep the fish and bring it in. a few more years of that tournament and you can kiss your shot at a 10lb plus pound brown goodbye for the most part. Arizona isnt close to other states and fisheries as far as the quality of fish. would like to see pics of your biggest az brown and rainbow that wasnt stocked lol

there is a place in the north valley that sells new .218 brass. I got some for my bee not to long ago. i have a buddy that goes there for brass and he picked some up for me..definitely not cheap

Heading up to Horshoe Cienega and Sunrise lake this weekend to do some trout fishing, If anyone wants a report let me know. Not sure how many on here actually ice fish. I will post some pics when we get back for anyone interested.

they really fight hard on the little ice rods with 2lb test haha...ill be hitting Sunrise and Horseshoe right after ice out. Can't wait, caught a really nice rainbow at sunrise last year and some nice browns at the other lakes up there
-
we used a 5" Auger..the ice is about 10-12" thick so i would recommend an auger

Sunrise is Really low, hopefully the moisture will replenish the springs that feed it. When i talked to the Game and fish officer at the lake last spring he said that the springs stopped flowing a few years ago and is why the lake is so low and not filling. Fishing was good Saturday morning on jigs and power bait, all but one was 18" or so and fat. looked like footballs. After some lunch we headed out to Horseshoe, fishing was slow until 4pm but really turned after that. We caught quite a few rainbows all 10-12" , no size. Went back to sunrise on Sunday and got blanked, not even a bite. Think the front shut them down. the wind was brutal, gusting over 40mph with blowing snow. Cant wait to get back up there the first of May for 5 days. The fishing should be really good
-
Crescent is only accessible by snow machine. Wouldn't waste time, game amd fish reported a fish kill there this fall due to pH and some other factors. Fishing was good at sunrise until 930am amd just died, went to horsehoe this afternoom, from 4 tI'll dark was good but all small. Will post pics later

It has been a really fun hunt so far, was lucky enough to get this tag twice in 3 year's. Wanted to make the best of it and me and my buddy put in lots of time scouting and with the help of a new friend and a bunch of buddies was able to take this deer on the 3rd evening. We still have 1 tag to fill and we will be here till the end to do it. Couldn't pass this buck, had to much character
-
Winds haven't been to bad, moon really affecting deer movement in the afternoons I think...passed some smaller 4x4's, hoping to find a good one next few days before front comes in.
-
Loading the coolers and and truck to head up the hill, waiting on my buddy to meet me and head out. Got ten days to get it done in 3a/3c, hope to enjoy a relaxing hunt with my friends and harvest a good deer. Good luck to everyone with a tag this year...should be a good hunt
-
nice looking deer, looks like you will be good to go come opening day! That clean buck will look good on the wall
-
leaving now to head up for another scouting trip before the Hunt. Been seeing a lot of good bucks last few trips, 2 more trips before the season to find the right deer. good luck to anyone else with this tag.

Those are some nice Deer Wht_MTNMAN. We have seen some really nice deer...been trying to stay away from the areas we know get a lot of pressure from elk and deer hunters. hoping to best the deer i got on this hunt 2 years ago

I did, really cool unique deer. I have my eye on a few shooters. trying to keep tabs on them until opening morning
