  1. Hello, After 6 years I finally drew an elk tag in my home state of AZ. This will be my very first elk since I have been unsuccessful OTC in Colorado the past 2 years and only started hunting 6 years ago. I drew an AZ Unit 9 Late Season Bull tag. I have been eScouting as much as I can and going to start scouting several weekends before the hunt starts since I know they wont be in the same area as they're now due to moving to winter ranges. I am just looking for some tips or what kind of country to be in during that time from anyone who has hunted them in unit 9 during the late season. Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you, TJ 480-720-8987
  2. Hey everyone! So I drew my first ever bear tag for archery down in 35A/35B starting May 3rd through July 31st. I am new to bear hunting and not sure where to begin minus reading the regs and trying to look at places to hunt off OnX maps and google earth. Any info would be appreciated greatly! Thank you everyone!

Drawing first ever AZ bear hunt in 35A/35B

Oh yeah my bad I guess I should have been more clear on reading the regs and hunt unit info and all info on the hunt through the regs! Greatly appreciate the insights on the calls and most definitely will be carrying a handgun! Personally I am not the greatest hunter when it comes to blinds just havent put in the reps for it to get good at it with winds and placement and better at spot and stalk with a higher vantage point. Hunting all varieties of animals has taught me I need to get better at setting up blinds and hunting by sitting. Thank you, TJ

hahahha Yeah I figured I just have never hunted them and was looking for pointers not someone's spot. I appreciate the advice and I have been scouring over OnX maps plotting points and water and trying to get more familiar with the area before I can get down there. Would you say spot and stalk is kind of out of the question and I need to focus more on sitting with a ground blind or something? Thank you, TJ Perez

FIRST TIME DRAWING ELK TAG UNIT 9 Late Rifle

Sorry I havent gotten back to you guys! It was a rough hunt with not know how to hunt that area and unable to glass most of the time due to the entire first day being fogged out and just went walking that Saturday night and got on some tracks and it snowed Saturday night and I went back out on Sunday morning and I got on fresh tracks and found a spike with a couple cows and shot him at about 250 yards. Pack out was about 2 miles and not too steep. The meat tastes great!

I actually will harvest any deer I would shoot on the last day and havest it on the first day. I just wanna get out there. If I don't get drawn I'll just pick up a leftover tag. I am not looking for trophys necessarily just a better hunt that's colder and in the rut. Just can't wait to start hunting on my own and really developing my skills as a hunter and fieldsman and getting outdoors!

I just bought the same exact scope. Haven't had a chance to use it yet but wondered what your thoughts were on it. Love the scope! I have a viper 6.5-20x44 pa on my 7mm rem mag and want to get the razor 4-27x56 for my 300 win mag and put the PST on my 7mm. I'll always buy vortex quality and warranty hands down the best!

Nice I use all Hodgdon extreme powder so nosler brass Berger 185 73grns H4831SC running 2850fps not the fastest but it's consistent. And it's in a savage long range hunter with a McMillan a3 sporter stock I just put on it. With a vortex viper pst 6-24x50 ffp

Deerhunter- i have competed with my 300 mags out to 1000 yards. i would load a 150 berger or cbt; or a 168 beger or cbt. the lighter bullets have less kick, are flatter and less wind drift out to 500-600 yards. after that the longer heavier ones like the 175,185 and 210 do help. i would use what ever shoots the best group at 200 and 400. ( sorry if you di not ask this question just helping.) ron Ron: Ok thank you! Yeah I might try some 168's as well then. I am currently using 185 Berger vld's and at 100 I'm at .6 inches. I'll be sure to try a load for the 168's. What load do you use for your Berger 168's?

Kennyazman: Ok Ill be sure to look into those southern units as well. And is it better for the 1st october hunt or the late november hunt? due to deer being pressured at the end of november and then being warmer at the end of october. Which would have the most advantages? I have already tried looking on google earth to scout but not sure on what to look for on the maps? Just high mountains or what am I looking for when looking on internet maps? Thank you! Johnnie Blaze: Thats what I want to do, but none of my friends hunt or have guns or anything so just flying solo for the time being. I know it definitely would be easier to glass hills when you have two sets of eyes scanning mountains and fingers of hills.. Thank you!

Thanks a lot for the tip! Im gonna try and find the podcast and make sure I listen to them all and get all the knowledge I can from listening to them. Get tip for staying out even during the middle of the day.... I would have never thought of staying out during those times and would probably think to nap during that time of the day. Thank you!

Becker: I'm only 24 and don't need a monster buck by any means I've killed a deer with my bow before and was just a spike by fork and not in it for the trophy just love getting out in the field and enjoy the outdoors. I really am in it for meat and experience and just want to get hunting tactics down and become a successful hunter even if that means taking a forky at the end of the day. I live in ahwatukee and was wondering which units would be best to put in for? I have some vortex diamondback 10x42's but just bought some Swarovski 15's from cameralandny.com. But still need to get a tripod never needed it with 10's.

roninflag: No i haven't. but a couple coyotes and I started reloading for it. Is there a unit that you would recommend close to phx to start scouting and put in for? And thats what I've been reading to get in shape and hike in and get off the roads because a lot of people just road hunt?
